Kaldheim update

Citridon, 4 years ago

-1 Kynaios and Tiro of Meletisfoil, +1 Esika, God of the Tree  Flip - I want some of the sweet Valkyrie angels from Kaldheim, so we need black. Esika's front half hypothetically ramps quite nicely, and her back half provides battlefield presence. I expect her to play out coming front side on turn 3 often, then dying somewhere in the middle turns and only being the back side from then on.

-1 Segovian Angel, +1 Arcane Signet - Adding a little extra ramp now that the curve is a little different

-1 Angel of Condemnation, +1 Resplendent Marshal

-1 Resolute Archangel, +1 Ethereal Valkyrie

-1 Eerie Interlude, +1 Linvala, Shield of Sea Gate

-1 Bladed Bracers, +1 Firja's Retribution - The commander change means "plus vigilance" is redundant some now, and the new commander isn't a human or angel, sadly.

-1 Razia, Boros Archangel, +1 Rampage of the Valkyries

-1 Firemane Avenger, +1 Eradicator Valkyrie

-1 Deathless Angel, +1 Liesa, Shroud of Dusk - There are a number of other field protection effects at this point, so Deathless Angel has sunk lower and lower in usefulness, especially with Linvalla protecting against sweeps so much better and Kindred Boon doing targeted invincibility longer term.

-1 Herald of War, +1 Maelstrom Archangel - They both have to untap and successfully attack to save mana, but Maelstrom gives a potentially huge amount the turn you play it, where Herald builds more slowly. Also, Herald works better with Kynaios and Tiro providing a steady supply of cards in hand, where Maelstom works better with a smaller hand, which Esika's backside will lean more towards.

-1 Angelic Skirmisher, +1 Shepherd of the Cosmos - With foretell, she can come down the turn after our commander to put a fetch land back into play! Also, on Skirmisher, lifelink was already redundancy on Lyra, and now Vigilance is redundancy on Esika, so while she's still potent, she's slightly lessened. And Shepherd also gives curve options with Foretell.

-1 Nissa's Revelation, +1 Path to the World Tree - Only a draw three instead of an average draw of 4/5, but we get the 1st card turn 2 and it doubles as color fixing! I think this will play out less powerfully, but in a smoother fashion

-1 Plains, +1 Swamp

-1 Plains, +1 Godless Shrinefoil

-1 Unclaimed Territory, +1 Marsh Flats

-1 Jungle Shrine, +1 Path of Ancestry

-1 Battlefield Forge, +1 Alpine Meadow

-1 Mystic Monastery, +1 Raugrin Triome

-1 Reflecting Poolfoil, +1 Indatha Triome

-1 Clifftop Retreat, +1 Savai Triome

-1 Seaside Citadel, +1 Zagoth Triome

-1 Irrigated Farmland, +1 Snowfield Sinkhole

Biomancer's Out

BSP, 4 years ago

I took out Biomancer's familiar because that card promotes gameplay that I explicitly recommend avoiding in the primer. It doesn't do anything except make thrasios cheaper, but holding back for thrasios activations is the last thing the pilot should be doing. Genesis storm on the other hand can easily take over the game with the right flips. The worst possible combination (probably sol ring -> bane -> Steve) is quite bad, but the high upside of the card makes the risk acceptable. I'll keep experimenting with that slot. I could also throw dig through time back in, but I think genesis storm is really good.

Added

Removed

  • Verix Bladewing - Was a little vanilla for my tastes. A 4/4 for is okay and the kicker means two 4/4s for a mere but... meh. Making room for more exciting dragons.
  • Boltwing Marauder - This is probably the second time I've taken this out of the deck. Just underwhelming.
  • Reforge the Soul - Expensive to cast (apart from the potential Miracle) and I don't like that it refills my opponenets' hands.
  • Heartless Summoning - I liked this trick but as I add more lower-cost dragons with less power/toughness, the -1/-1 makes a bigger difference. Swapping this for a mana rock instead.
  • Detection Tower - I still have the superior Arcane Lighthouse.
  • Swamp

Version 3.0 - Let's get to the point, shall we?

King_of_Bees, 4 years ago

In this latest version, I took out some of the ramp (Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, and Spoils of Victory) for some fun and/or mean things: Triumph of the Hordes, Mina and Denn, Wildborn, Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider, and Phylath, World Sculptor. I also bumped some other things so I could add Cosima, God of the Voyage  Flip and Escape to the Wilds.

Darksteel Mutation -> Smoke. Darksteel is fantastic and may get traded back in, but Smoke makes perfect sense given the goals of this deck and I figured maybe I won't need Darksteel to stop a creature given how much goading and creature protection I'm already running.

For the rest of my lands i will be using basics until i get rich and then buy nintendo. Actually, id rather buy Sony, but we all must make compromises.
