Destroy all creatures and lands.

Keldon Firebombers can be good. But I would rather it also destroy artifacts and creatures. For this deck, I think the more it can reset the board, the better. I actually used to have four land destruction cards in the deck: Jokulhaups, Devastation, Obliterate, and Bearer of the Heavens.

But since I have so many draw and search cards in the deck, I'm actually able to very consistently obtain a land wipe. After many games, I've noticed that I would often end up with two or more MLD in my hand. At that point, the excess were just duds. So I decided to remove Devastation and Bearer of the Heavens to make room for cheaper cards that were more useful. After lowering the average CMC, I was also able to put in more non land cards. Which I also felt made it better.

I've looked at your deck, and I think it's VERY good. I especially liked the combos you have in the deck. My deck doesn't really have too many permanents that are sac outlets, so I probably wouldn't be using those specific combos. Which I'm ok with, since I like keeping +1 counters on my creatures to prep for a MLD.

It's just a different way of winning. But again, very good job on the Marchesa deck!

I agree with KBK. This story just keeps getting better. I hope we'll actually get to see some Devastation instead of all this Solitary Confinement though XD

Seconding TypicalTimmy here, if you're not using it in the majority of games, then I would scale back all besides the most useful of the cards. Unless land destruction is your decks thing, then drop at least 2 of the 4 (Devastation and Bearer of the Heavens would be my first choices)

This may strike as an odd question, but does anyone find themselves with too many of the same type of card? I'll give an example: One of my commander decks uses land/creature board wipes. Such as Obliterate, Jokulhaups, Devastation, and Bearer of the Heavens. These cards more or less do the same thing.

Now at first glance, this may not seem like a lot of cards. These land wipes only take up 4 out of 100 cards. However, I have also filled the deck with a fair amount of draw and search cards. (Specifically 14 cards that let me draw, and 5 cards that allow me to search). After playing many games, I found that I would often times have more than one land wipe in my hand. I don't ever find myself playing more than one land wipe per game. So this would many times mean that at least one card in my hand is useless. So the question is, can I justify replacing perhaps one land wipe for something more useful? Or is it more beneficial to keep as many win condition cards as possible?

First of all: I'm not really the best person to give feedback on a type of deck that I've never played. I mostly mastered Esper colors, but red is a bad color for me to use.

Next, there are some basic things that a commander deck needs. You need Lands, Removal, Ramp, Draw, and Wipes.

EDHrec has recommendations for your specific commander and it's common playstyles. The site's flaws are any new cards that have only recently came out, and you might find some really good cards that are either relatively new or as obscure as f** due to the fact that the site is based on popularity.

Scryfall can find obscure or new cards perfect for your new commander deck.

As for the basic tools a commander deck needs, it all comes down to 36-37 lands (these need to generate mana. However, some have certain effects and count as spells), 6-8 removal spells (cards that counter spells or destroy permanents), 5 board wipes (Example is Wrath of God and Doomskar. Other options for Grixis are Damnation, In Garruk's Wake, AEtherize, Cyclonic Rift, Fade Away, Devastation, which you should NOT run in a casual deck with casual friends, I REPEAT NO IT WIPES LANDS DO-, and Blasphemous Act), 10 draw spells (Read the Bones, Notion Rain, for decks with unblockable creatures Sygg, River Cutthroat and Bident of Thassa, though there are probably other forms of repeatable draw found in your colors), and 10 forms of ramp. These can take the form of mana dorks which are creatures that generate more mana, like Llanowar Elves, or a blue version of it can be Apprentice Wizard, mana rocks, which are the second safest form of ramp and are most common. Dimir Signet, and Rakdos Signet, and also Izzet Signet are both really good. Sol Ring and Arcane Signet are found in ZendiCommander decks, or Zendikar Commander decks. Land ramp is the safest form of ramping and is most commonly found in Green, but Blue can do it as well due to the release of Planar Chaos. Expect more land ramp in other colors soon with the release of Time Spiral Remastered. Dreamscape Artist is that one single land ramp found in blue.

I recommend this video right here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jO2fmsef0g

These are the absolute basics of a casual commander deck. Have fun!

So I have a Jhoira Eldrazi deck that uses MLD such as Devastation. However, I never just blow up the board to just blow it up, there's typically an annihilator Eldrazi right behind it.

Typically, if you win the game the turn it goes off then it should be fine. What makes mld not fun is when the game doesn't end and you can't do anything.

So I would say you should only need to tune your deck to your playgroups power level. In this case, since they seem to play less powerful decks, swap at some eldrazi for a big creature that's a bit more tame and maybe have fewer mld.

Jokulhaups and Devastation are right down this deck's alley if you are looking for more board wipes, which you said you don't really have a problem finding them so that's up to you.

SideBae: Yes, card draw is essentially missing from this iteration. Outpost Siege is a mainstay in my other mono red decks, and I really like the Skullclamp suggestion for the elemental tokens. Another monster (asymmetrical) draw card in red is Knollspine Dragon so I'll have to put some thought into this. Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon are definitely brutal; I'll have to reassess how much hate I'm already provoking before putting them in.

On that note, another route I had in mind, but thought it too asocial, was to go the MLD route with Jokulhaups Obliterate Devastation etc. However, this would not make me any friends, and I try to pride myself on being a fun person to play with. Lots to think about, thanks very much!
