Since Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer release she has been adored by all. She's also been my absolute favorite and I've yet to meet one person who has disdain for her when I bring her to my local LGS, which says a lot. Below you'll find my history with this deck, why I built her, the variety of changes made over the month, a breakdown of the supporting cast of cards that surround our mysterious friends, some reasons why you may want to play her, and all the questions my friends asked me when I was making this particular build.

History Prelude/Introduction

Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer was the first commander I truly fell in love with. I remember being in a ho-hum phase with edh. I had just finished, what I thought at the time, my favorite edh deck Ruric Thar, the Unbowed because when he was spoiled back in Gate Crash he was my favorite card. I loved RG, and especially Gruul since original Ravnica. I theory crafted, put on the shelf, resumed, had friends help, and on/off for years tinkered with him before Putting cash to paper and buying him. However, I hadn't realized how boring he was and how anti-stacks a player I was. Playing against my college friends he was perfect, he told all my friends that we're not here to play solitaire and watch you combo off. But when I left college and hung out with friends I made through work, his playstyle wasn't working. We were all there to have fun and play 50 tap lands and only play 7+ costed spells. So I eventually shelved him and i went looking for my next commander, all of which stayed virtual and proxied. Then i saw Faceless Menace at my local LGS one day and I was hooked. I bought the deck, sleeved it up, and overall had a great time against my friends who would always glance my way before they played anything due to not knowing specifically what I had facedown, often times being lamented with "I want to play X but he could havr z!". Every player either relied on me and my army of faceless 2/2s or played super cautiously. Morphs, while nothing new, had changed our table. We had gotten use to looking at players hands for interaction instead of etb creatures we all played. My fondest moment was someone played Emrakul, the Promised End In their Meren of Clan Nel Toth deck and decimated one of our friends. On my following turn I played Ixidron and we all laughed as his entire deck was turned off for a few turns since he had to figure out how to flip Meren back up since I wouldn't let him suicide it into me. Another moment was Chromeshell Crabing another players Worldspine Wurm which was met with lots of laughter.

So I went to work crafting, but had poor inital deck direction due to me trying to jam in every aspect of every Kadena deck i saw online, which would lead me to build a very diluted and inconsistent mess every time Like Ruric Thar, I shelved her and gave up, moving onto my next deck idea of General Ferrous Rokiric and playing him to great effect, but Kadena always lingered in my closet waiting.

After growing bored with Ferrous, and tired of borrowing my friends decks, I eventually decided my best way to approaching Kadena was to throw a cheap land base together and focus on the rest and the deck took off, I suddenly had inspiration and dove head first and made this deck. Something I'm super proud of, works like I imagined, and even trickier than before.

Why Should I Play Kadena?

You may like Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer if you

• Love playing mind games with your opponents because they won't know what face down creatures you have out and what they potentially do
• Love having all your creatures be your main source of interaction
• Love draw effects on commanders
• Love theme decks

You may NOT like Kadena if

• Don't enjoy theme decks
• Want a more variable play style other than, play dude face down and pass
• Want something you can tinker and upgrade long term since Morphs/Manifest are very one note/set specific
• Want to play a GY Sultai commander

Commonly Asked Questions By My Friends

Q: Why are you running so many tap lands?

A: I wanted to build this deck on a budget and I also slightly suck at building mana bases over 2 colors. I built the best budget friendly base I could that also wouldn't eat into the deck and overlap in colors as much as possible. Alongside all of that, my play group isn't cEDH level. We all run tap lands to some effect so given the context this mana base fits in with the group.

Q: Why do you have so many pieces of ramp?

A: This deck is deceptively mana hungry, and importantly mana color intensive. If Kadena is out she alleviates a large chunk of this issue, but without her the deck struggles. You need the mana to pay morph costs and their flip costs and if you plan on bouncing/flashing on everyone's turns without her. Now cards like Primordial Mist and even Scroll of Fate turn excess rocks into dudes for kadena to draw off of in case you hit em late game.

Q: How do you win?

A: Value, control, recursion, and just pure 2/2 beats

Q: Why aren't you running some popular cards like Deathmist Raptor, Ixidor, Reality Sculptor, or even Ugin, the Ineffable?

A: They just didn't fit the deck too be honest. Ugin doesn't trigger Kadenas draw ability and having both Dream Chisel and Obscuring Aether gives me the same reduction benefit at less mana. For Deathmist Raptor, while he is commonly found on every deck list, I personally found he doesn't do anything to really impress me other than come back from the graveyard and have deathtouch. Ixidor, Reality Sculptor is just too much mana for an effect that, while cool on paper, doesn't really impact my game.

Q: Jesus man, so many spoiler updates. Will the deck ever be considered done?

A: Honestly? I don't think so. While morphs and manifest cards aren't exactly lining up for a reprint, or a new set in the future, the surrounding cast still is. I'm sure there will be better untap effects, counter spells, removal spells, draw spells, and so forth that the deck can use to always get better in smaller aspects.

How do you pilot this deck

Tempo. Tempo. Tempo.

Kadena thrives on it. But to be able to sow the seeds of it you need to have some established board state.

You don't want to play Kadena immediately if your hand only has 2 morphs in it and nothing else. You want to establish your mana base, mana rocks, and if you can a flash or bounce effect.

Kadena makes your morphs free to cast, but if you don't have the mana to flip up the tempo/value ends there.

Kadena always rewards you for being smart. It's super easy to just play all your morphs and draw a ton of cards, but not all morphs are relevant for all situations. If you can correctly guess your opponents actions and respond with a morph your opponent will be super cautious and then you can just slither in for the win.

Vraska the Unseen
In a perfect game, her -7 can win games.

Vivien Reid
+2/+2, Vigilance, Trample, and Indestructible is an amazing buff. Lots of work to get there, but when pulled off morphs become even more scarier

Thieving Amalgam -- This has won me so many games just based on the value alone. Depriving your opponents of resources and the possibility of casting their non-permanent cards in conjuction with Primordial Mist and makes a board wipe so painful for everyone.

Value -- In all my games the one thing I've consistently done is out value my friends into, and past, the mid game. When everyone has shifted into recovery/resource management to try for another swing at a win, I can easily recur all my morphs with Genesis, bounce them with Crystal Shard, or rest them with Ixidron. This deck has a lot of gas and can really go the distance when asked.

So, one of the big reasons with this change was to help get some more efficient mana rocks that wouldn't make me chose between Kadena on 4 and something like Thran Dynamo. Worn Powerstone being 3 mana makes this less of difficult curve and I already 6 other 2 drop rocks that only tap for 1 mana I wanted something more and this Arcane Signet was let go and gives some oomph to my mana.

Whisperwood Elemental + Primordial Mist Removing both Wonder and Sudden Substitution both were kinda awkward. Wonder wanted me to be more "aggro" but getting it into the graveyard was a chore in and of itself and my opponents wouldn't voluntarily remove it so having a 2/2 "do nothing" was often times worse than a morph. Substitution was a "meh" "counterspell" often times it would sit in my hand as I waited for the right moment to "gotcha" someone and play politics or waited until I casted a meh spell for something worth stealing on someone elses side. Adding in Primordial Mist and Whisperwood Elemental help shore up some weaker areas of my deck, manifested non-creature spells and recovering off of a board clear and they both trigger Kadena allowing for some sweet card draw, sometimes cheaper morph cards (not paying 3 is clutch), and more mind games.

Vivien, Champion of the Wilds
I've never once ran a deck that didn't include Lightning Greaves or Swiftfoot Boots both of those cards were auto includes regardless of the commander because they're like a safety blanket. But with the amount of morph counter spells/redirect, Gift of Doom, and bounce triggers I feel safe enough to not warrant them. Plus, boots turns off bouncing Kadena in the advent of a boardwipe. Replacing it with Vivien, Champion of the Wilds increases my flash effect Triggers, gives some decent combat effects, and allows me to filter the top 3 cards and remove any terrible ones.

Eternal Witness
Road of Return was good in theory, but with so many bounce effects and adding in Monastery Loremaster having something that just churns out free stuff helps longer than a 1 time use spell. Adding in Eternal Witness allows for more synergy with Genesis and is reusable with bounce effects to.

Reliquary Tower
I completely forgot to add this card in my inital build and I quickly realized that was a bad idea. With Kadena, flash effect, and morphs my hand got full fast.

Since adding in Eternal Witness Monastery Loremaster sadly became outclassed by Witness, Den Protector, and Genesis. Replacing Monastery Loremaster with Silumgar Assassin gives me way more kill options and cheaper flip costs which means more Morphs per turn

Dulcet Sirens
In testing I found that I had more than enough Removal for enemy Commanders and none of my friends play any pesky ones either rendering Leadership Vacuum essentialy a 3 mana draw a card. Sirens will help me get rid of Creatures by making them turn their attention elsewhere even if their controller doesn't want to. Also increases my Morph count by 1 allowing more Kadena Triggers

Skinthinner
I've been looking for more Morphs, more interaction, and more removal. Since I've gone more the control and value route over aggro Salt Road Ambushers doesn't really fit in my deck anymore given the amount of bounce and recursion effects which would make those +1/+1 counters fall off. I have Trail of Mystery for a good +2/+2 buff in case.

I've not liked how Runecaster was preforming in games. 4 mana for a 2/3 that has to wait until I have mana available to flip stuff up for a draw was severely outclassed by other draw effects like Secret Plans or War Room. Shorecrasher swoops in to make the deck a bit more synergistic, dodges removal, trades better in combat, and fuels Kadena. {4}{U} is a lot to spend to flip up, but the deck does pretty well on untap effects and draw making it easier

So this card and Sol Ring have been battling each other for a spot in my deck since the creation. Do I want a faster start/commit less resources to hard casting morphs, or do I want easier mana fixing to ensure I can always have the right mana up.

With the way my deck has been leaning I've felt the hurt of a T1 Ring but not have the right mana after that, Signet while slower will help ensure no matter what colors I have I won't be mana screwed

I realized I have very little ways to interact with opposing lands that my opponents have in play. Since I have Bojuka Bog I believe I can afford to remove a Swamp since 3 Swamps + 1 Bog = 4 swamps which keeps me on par with the rest of the basics. I chose Field over Ghost Quarter Since Field acts as a make shift Ramp spell to fix any color issues I may have and thins my deck.

I was looking for more draw/maniuplation since throughout playing and testing most of the work came through Kadena. Sadly Shorecrasher just didn't work out. Between the UUU casting cost and the 4U flip cost he was a major investment to even "combo" with Kadena. However, Bleb should remedy that and also allow me to clear dead cards off the top of my deck and fits the scheme of my slow and control build. I debated cards like Riptide Survivor and even Beast Whisperer but decided to keep my Morph count where it was and Bleb will help ensure the right draws rather than blind draws

I wanted another piece of grave hate for my playground but didn't want to remove Bojuka Bog. One issue I ran into with Bog was since it's an ETB effect you want to hold it, but also it's a tap land so you want to play it asap to avoid tempo loss. Grounds is my happy middle ground and allows me to play Bog whenever and also hold up grave hate for my opponents.

Minions' Murmurs
Over the course of many games, I found that Sultai Charm just wasn't that efficient at any of its effects and also super mana intensive. Needing to hold up one of each color would often times lead me to figuring out which morphs to forgo flipping and which ones needed what mana. It also fills a roll that is left by Arch of Orazca, and that is card draw. 6 mana (counting tapping the arch) along with having 10 permanents out was a slightly too tall a task for my deck that wants to constantly have mana open to flip creatures, bounce creatures, or play spells. Murmurs also plays nicely with all my manifest cards too, allowing for a huge draw effect albeit at the cost of life.

I haven't liked how Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir was working compared to my other flash effects for a multitude of reasons. His high and mana intensive casting cost and his ability makes the table groan and puts me in a rough spot where I'm now forced to play interference because no one else physically can. So if someone is going to combo off, swing for lethal, or play a powerful card and I have 0 interaction for it usually spells game over.

Voidmage Prodigy helps give me more interaction and scales so well with Genesis and my 7 other wizards.

Vivid Grove + Vivid Creek + Vivid Marsh:

So I found these lands in testing more valuable and useful than the Gates I using. Being able to fix all my mana with 1 card instead of choosing a specific color has worked wonders in smoothing out my mana more. By the time the counters are gone I've found I have fixed the specific issue I had.

One thing I noticed about Minions' Murmurs was both drawing it when I had a board and playing it when I needed it. Often times I needed at least 3-4 creatures minimum to get optimal results, but depending when I drew it I'd either have no board or 1-2 creatures making it a very weak draw. Bounty however, while very slow compared to Murmurs, does offer additional mana to free up resources and consistent draw.

One of the reasons I kept Reliquary Tower was because the draw effects on Kadena. However in testing, and talking to a friend, my hand being overloaded was never an issue. This card produces the same mana as Reliquary, but has the unique nature of not being a dead draw since it can be a 2/2 and draw a card with Kadena.

I usually don't cut lands too much, but in testing, now that all the cards arrived, I found that I just draw too many lands in my opening hands, and too many on subsequent turns. Slotting in Reid accomplishes many things all in 1 package. She is "draw", allowing for a refuel or a filter, removal, and a win condition.

I may have underestimated how much recovery I actually needed in this deck. Between having both a Den Protector and a Genesis my ability to recur was pretty good. I'd often draw Eternal Witness and wish it was something else. Read the Bones, beat out both Harmonize, Painful Truths, and even the first change of Precognitive Perception for a few reasons. It's cheaper than Harmonize, while 1 less card than Painful Truths, is 1 less health, and the scry effect digs a bit further than Truths.

So, after much testing I found this card was much better than Read the Bones. Same mana cost sure, but one extra card draw feels so much better. Whether it's playing catch up or just refueling, I've found this to be amazing. Yes, to get maximum draw I do need 3 colors, but in testing I've found I can easily get there, and even at 2 mana it's still on par with Bones.

One thing I found through my games was that morphs are expensive to flip. Multiple times I'd have a board of morph, but still needing all the mana in the world to actually play them. Ghastly Conscription just didn't do enough to either help win games, help swing games, or even do much. 7 mana is a lot to ask for a card that doesn't do that much against a large majority of EDH players. I debated Sensei's Divining Top, or even Road of Return, but settled on Urban Evolution because it felt very in-between road, that can also fill my hand should I need it, and also dump lands from my hand to either ramp me faster, or unclog it.

I usually try not to make changes so immediately after I make a change but talking over the previous change of adding Urban Evolution with a few friends, and a few late not games of EDH on Cockatrice, I found that my draw effects like Painful Truths and even Kadena herself, were much more reliable, and even better. With all the signets, talismans, and ramp in my deck playing extra lands just seemed redundant. Vraska the Unseen, while at 5 mana, brings some well-rounded effects to my deck. She can protect herself against enemy creatures, or even 1 big creature, she can immediately blow something up that I'm having issues with, and even bring a weird little win condition to the table.

Strionic Resonator
I completely forgot I owned this card to be honest. I found it when I was hunting around for my Vraska the Unseen. I saw it and immediately knew I had to jam it in. I chose to remove Golgari Charm for a few reasons.

1. The -1/-1 effect is negligible at best. Against most of my friends, if they're making 1/1s, they're also pairing them with anthem effects, or equipping them with Skullclamp, making creatures that are 2/2s instead, or playing decks that don't even generate 1/1s. Which, because I'm going for value over end game, hurts me.
2. The enchantment removal effect is both far to narrow and is handled much better by other cards in my deck who can either either/or, or even nonland altogether like Tear Asunder, Beast Within, and even Nantuko Vigilante, and even the most recent addition of Vraska the Unseen.
3. The regen is alright? I run a lot of bounce effects like Crystal Shard, Temur Sabertooth, and even a Genesis (who wants to go to the graveyard), and recovery effects like Yedora, Grave Gardener and Whisperwood Elemental. To where a mass board wipe is a hinderance more than a blowout.

I've never been impressed with Dream Chisel. A 3 mana spell for 1 mana discount does nothing. It's brother, Obscuring Aether is cheaper, and even becomes a 2/2. I wanted some more efficient hand cycling and some protection because, without mana available, all my morphs are sitting ducks. Monastery Siege allows a more flexible depending on my needs. While (2) mana isn't too much to pay later on, it is a good deterrent since it will chew up resources. On the other hand, if I need a hand refresher, it helps cycle dead cards.

Palace Siege
One reason I wanted to add this card was because I wasn't seeing the results I wanted with Yedora, Grave Gardener. She was slow, very telegraphed, and required a board to get results. She was very vulnerable to most removal, and could be played around. Adding in Palace Siege I'm hoping to see better results. Being able to recur any creature at my upkeep means board clears become a shopping mall later, and helps Genesis pull double duty. The life gain portion, while negligible, could help swing games if the turn order gets to me and I gain 6hp.

Words of Wind
Unfortunately, Obscuring Aether was on the chopping block once Dream Chisel left. Because Kadena gives free creatures, and with any flash effect it can be everyone's turn, I wanted to capitalize on it, and adding in Monastery Siege allows for up to 2 bounces a draw step which is amazing. The other issue I had with AEther, was if I had to choose between Kadena and this, I'd always go with Kadena, plus it flipping into a 2/2 while a neat combat trick, doesn't trigger Kadena.

This was a tough choice. I really liked Bounty of the Luxa. However, as games went on I noticed I didn't have that critical mass of Morphs I needed to either chain continuous draws, or always have one to draw. Luxa was my choice mainly due to two reasons.

1. No board impact the turn it comes down.
2. As Josh from Command Zone said "The turns you want the mana you might be drawing a card. I'd rather know I'm either getting the mana or drawing a card." Which happened a lot. I'd either be mana rich, so the 3 extra from Luxa didn't matter, or I'd be starved and I'd draw a card which could be nothing.
3. The addition of Monastery Siege has given me more consistent drawing capabilities, and with all my mana rocks/ramp spells the 3 extra mana isn't as valuable.

I chose Thelonite Hermit for a few reasons, one being it's a large amount of bodies stapled to one card, and I can bounce it constantly to keep my board protected.

I liked the sirens, however one issue I found is I'm not set up to send enemy creatures elsewhere, and if I did, it wouldn't solve anything. Usually just removing a threat is better than sending it somewhere else. Aphetto Exterminator fills this role and brings a 3/1 body to the table. He's also a very efficient body in combat, and works not just in combat like Sirens.

Such a massive boost for this deck. Free 2/2s is so massive, double draw effects from Kadena, and makes my board even harder to attack into if I have any flash effects up. I found through both talking with friends, play testing, and games I have too much Ramp. Between 6 pieces of artifact, 5 ramp spells, and 36 lands I've rarely found myself needing that much of a boost. I chose Arcane Signet mainly due to not wanting to disrupt my color spread among the deck.

The reason for this change is help give some oomph to my mana ramp.Arcane Signet returns to help fix mana now that the other signets are gone. Thran Dynamo Pretty much reads "4 mana cast a morph" and helps free up resources. Sol Ring is just too efficient and opens doors to a Turn 2 Cultivate/Kodama's Reach. The signets I found usually hindered my resources or made mana resources tricky to plan out and these changes should help smooth it out.

However, Shrine seemed a but redundant to use since it can only ever be used on artifacts or morphs, whereas this one has no limitations other than 5 lands. The main draw for adding it is a secondary Sol Ring effect that can help free up resources on flipping morphs.

Combined with the addition of Sol Ring and Temple of the False God My acceleration has increased faster. Kodama's Reach and Cultivate put me in awkward spots where I wanted to cast them on 3 but had a Talisman or rock out and would often forgo them. I debated adding in Three Visits but, with only 5 G/x lands in my deck and already having a Farseek, I felt I already had enough color fixing.

However, removing the bounce lands removes all tempo loss on my land drops, and it was a toss up between the snow duals and regular duals, but since I have nothing in my deck that cares about snow duals I chose them.

I felt removing Rampant Growth also felt right since pairing it with Farseek and Nature's Lore means I can grab any dual/basic from my deck whereas Rampant Growth only grabs basics.

Prismatic Vista/Fabled Passage
Replacing my much slower Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds just means a way faster ramp package.

I've been mulling this over for a while. I debated putting Ghost Quarter back in, but the fact it nets me -1 land and the opponent net 0 put me behind. I debated Dust Bowl, but then I realized if I had a repeatable removal everyone else wouldn't be as inclined to remove stuff and I'm not set up for land recursion. Then I thought about Tectonic Edge, but that 4 base land count hurts a lot. I then went with Wasteland because it puts myself and my opponent down a land and doesn't effect anyone else. While Demolition Field exists, I like my removal to be permanent.

I haven't been impressed by Brine Elemental. Having opponents skip untap steps sounds great, but add in sacrifice effects, blink effects, vigilanace, and in multi-player games where maybe 1 or 2 players could be in that position to take effect isnt worth it. Alongside that my 7 mana effects are tied up in Thousand Winds and Thieving Amalgam and any combination of morphs. I've never found myself with the Pickles Lock either or reaching to flip Brine Elemental In any game.

Shaper Parasite however adds a fun combat effect to the mix that pairs with Aphetto Exterminator to be more spot removal. Or even buff itself for fun damage and pairs nicely with Trail of Mystery.

Sadly my Takenuma, Abandoned Mire never panned out. While getting back stuff was good, I'd often mill cards I wanted and I already have a great revival engine in Genesis. This card helps function like Command Tower and helps my mana out (hopefully)

Hex
This synergizes with Thieving Amalgam and also has been great in helping me stabilize my board. One thing this deck lacks is efficient one sided board clear. Hex will help seal that leak a bit and in multi-player games, it's a great political tool. I liked Words of Wind, but I felt I never needed that bounce trigger and against my play group with Tokens, etb decks, and value engines it just felt like too much random chance.

Insidious Will
Very strong counterspell but also very telegraphed. I've felt like I have all the removal in the world and didn't really need to use Tear Asunder for much when I have cards like Vraska the Unseen, Beast Within, Vivien Reid, and even using Stronic Resonator to copy say my Ainok Survivalist/Nantuko Vigilante for more interaction. Including 1 additonal counterspell will help prevent some threats from landing.

While Insidious Will was doing great, I never got to use the other two modes that often. Between cards like Mischievous Quanar and Willbender I had cheaper options and Insidious Will was mainly relegated to counter magic. I debated options like Archmage Charm but thr triple U cost left me in awkward spots where I had to keep that up. Other cards fell into the same issue or too $$.

Bane's Contingency, while at worse is a Cancel, if I'm mainly protecting Kadena, that dig 3 clause is such a boon.

I needed a secondary max hand size card for a while but didn't know what to go with. I liked this card in testing since it fills 3 rolls. Max hand size, draw effect, and a win condition. I didn't need another counterspell when I have cards like Stratus Dancer, Willbender, and even Voidmage Prodigy.

Jolrael, Mwonvuli Recluse
Genesis sadly was too passive. I'm not a deck that needs recursion that badly. Cards like Crystal Shard and Temur Sabertooth did its job better and for less. Jolrael, Mwonvuli Recluse however turns that dial of pressure and value up another notch. Extra protection for my planeswalkers and more bodies for her to buff with her awesome ability. She gives my deck a legitimate win condition now and I'm surprised I never added her earlier. She scales so well with all my draw effects and I'm excited.

Exit Specialist
A 3rd copy of Icefeather Aven and Echo Tracer is super helpful for a commander that draws removal. I chose Monastery Siege as my test slot due to never taking the cycle effect because its usually handled better by other effects and I'm never needing to dig aggressively for anything. The +(2) more to target is serviceable to a degree. However, in a format where removal either comes in "destroy all" or stapled to creatures, planeswalkers, or abilities, that "spell" effect clause does sting.

Panoptic Projektor
A much nicer, and less clunky, Strionic Resonator. While it only triggers on morph flips, so no doubling up on Eternal Witness or Thieving Amalgam, being a static effect allows so much more freedom. The (3) mana boon is also amazingly helpful!

Printlifter Ooze
This card caught my eye on release. While Thelonite Hermit and his army of "2"s is amazing, the Oozes made by Printlifter Ooze have the ability to scale drastically with cards like Ugin's Mastery, Whisperwood Elemental, Primordial Mist, Theiving Amalgam, and even Jolrael, Mwonvuli Recluse allows my deck to go wider and help close out more games.

Hide in Plain Sight
After adding in Panoptic Projektor, I realized I don't really need Thran Dynamo anymore. Using this card in testing has been great. 5 mana, 2 guys, 2 draw triggers, 2 Trail of Mysterys, etc, is everything this deck wants to do.

Alas it's the end of an era. Scroll of Fate is just slow compared to everything else I run. Opposition pairs super well with Thelonite Hermit, Printlifter Ooze, and even Seedborn Muse to really cause some havoc.

Removing Fabled Passage was an interesting choice. I debated a basic, but need some insurance against Blood Moon effects. Passage comes out because it's a bit of a slower fetch, and between Sakura-Tribe Elder and Trail of Mystery I don't think I need too much basic fetching. Soporific Springs   brings an amazing counterspell or bounce effect.

Breakdown Of Card Categories Show

The Morphs

Ainok Survivalist
A Naturalize stapled to a 3/2 body when it flips. Not only is it good removal to bait your opponent, but it trades with a lot of creatures due to the Stat line.

Aphetto Exterminator
Bringing a hearty -3/-3 ability on top of a 3/1 body makes for a formidable removal spell. Able to 2 for 1 the opponent, or flip and kill an unrelated creature while trading with another really throws people for a loop.

Bane of the Living
Instant speed, uncounterable, unseen, non-stack using board wipe? Yes, please. It is one of my most favorite morphs that I often recurr with Genesis.

Shaper Parasite
A fun new removal tool or a combat trick in hiding

Chromeshell Crab
No one suspects the Crab! I love this card due to the amount of cheeky plays you can pull off. Stealing other people's commanders, big threats, or combo cards. Plus, using a Strionic Resonator is even more fun!

Den Protector
A second Eternal Witness is always a great tool on top of flipping into a 3/2 that can sneak by most small Tokens or even commanders. Pairs well with Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar for when my opponents block to kill it I get to ReUse it.

Echo Tracer
An Unsummon paired with a 2/2 is alright. However, it has saved Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer multiple times, or stopped important pre-combat triggers and large Minions.

Gift of Doom
This is such a fantastic card. If Bane of the Living is king, this is my prince. Doesn't die to removal spells if time correctly, can still block, and then flips to protect my commander or another creature in combat AND kills whatever makes contact.

Grim Haruspex
This is draw fuel. If I never have a Temur Sabertooth or a Crystal Shard, she draws me so many cards when a board clear comes along.

Icefeather Aven
Unsummon part two. This time with a may effect, so if it's the only morph out, I don't have to bounce it or Kadena. Very useful in protecting or reusing morphs or disrupting my opponents

Thelonite Hermit
Immediate blockers, 4 bodies, easy to bounce.

Dulcet Sirens
Great political tool and a great way to get opponents utility creatures to swing in and get removed.

Kadena's Silencer
A nifty morph. Watch your opponent put triggers on the stack from cards like Zendikar Resurgent or any landfall, etb, or anything, and then for 2 mana, watch them cry.

Kheru Spellsnatcher
6 mana is a lot to counter a spell. But it's also nothing when you can save that spell for later and spend 0 mana on it. Great politic tool if you and your opponent know someone is about to do something splashy.

Mischievous Quanar
One of the few, if not the only morph, that can turn itself back down at a moments notice. While it won't trigger Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer, it will trigger Secret Plans a bunch. Having a Reverberate has always been useful whether it's copying ramp spells, kill spells, or fun spells.

Nantuko Vigilante
Naturalize part 2. While already a 3/2 body, it's super useful in the removal department.

Silumgar Assassin
My commander killer card. You'd be surprised how many 3 power or fewer commanders you run into alongside utility creatures as well. Alongside being a 3/2, it gets through so many larger creatures and triggers Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar so reliably.

Skinthinner
5 mana is a lot to ask for a 2/1 creature stapled to a Doom Blade. However, 5 mana for a creature that I can bounce, recur, or even flash into save the day is amazing.

Stratus Dancer
While only able to counter Instants and sorceries, a 2 mana 3/2 with flying is both efficient and surprising.

Thousand Winds
7 mana "disable target attacking player" is a great deterrent. Being also stapled to a 5/6 body with flying both bodies a lot of opposing threats and is threatening enough to command a blocker.

Unblinking Bleb
While not as flashy as some of his brothers, this morph has dug me (literally) out of a hole. So many of my morphs flip for 1-2 mana, and paired with a Secret Plans, I'm able to filter my draws so efficiently and prevent those "ah. Drew a land" moments.

Vesuvan Shapeshifter
Provides some nice utility being able to copy any face-up morphs for additional usage, copying an opponents scary creature

Voidmage Apprentice
4 mana Counterspell is a lot. But in this deck, it's another super powerful morph that people don't see coming.

Voidmage Prodigy
3 mana counterspell is better than 4. He also comes with the bonus of putting all my wizard morphs into the Gy where I can use Den Protector, Genesis, or even Eternal Witness and have a continuous supply of bodies to tell my opponents no.

Willbender
It's always Willbender. Being able to turn any kill spell or buff spell to him for 2 mana is annoying for my opponents who want to remove something else, and I've made a pact with them.

Zoetic Cavern
It's a fun ramp spell trick. A great 2/2. And all-around solid addition to round out my morphs. It does feel bad to play this as a land drop instead of with Kadena.

A new addition to the deck! Cheaper than an Echo Tracer and Icefeather Aven, with the ability to sneak in for damage is great!

Branch of Vitu-Ghazi
A great addition to Kadena. Pairs super well with Zoetic Cavern. A fun ramp source and helps flip other morphs when needed.

Ramp Spells

Three Visits
Another Nature's Lore. Now that my mana base is finished, it grabs any land I need now and helps thin the deck super well.

Exploration
Amazing card. Helps flip multiple morphs due to how many lands I play.

Nature's Lore
A secondary Farseek that can grab any G/x I need that Farseek can't.

Farseek
Grabs any land from my deck, including my UB lands. Compared to Nature's Lore and Nature's Lore, which only grab forests

Overgrown Zealot
A brand-new addition. While he doesn't have the same deck thinning as Sakura-Tribe Elder, he makes up for it by giving me 2 mana to flip any facedown I have. As well as coming in as a 0/4 to clog up some ground.

Trail of Mystery
My favorite mana fixer. Cheap to throw down, and thins my deck consistently to ensure I don't draw lands, and any lands I do draw I can convert into Morphs with Scroll of Fate or pitch to Monastery Siege. The +2/+2 buff is also quite strong when I needed some gas.

There is nothing to say that everyone hasn't already said. It's just a powerhouse.

Arcane Signet
My "4th" Talisman.

Talisman of Curiosity + Talisman of Dominance + Talisman of Resilience "better" versions of the signets. Faster and more efficient and can be used immediately, taking 1 life can be annoying after a while, but it's worth it

Flash Effects

Vedalken Orrery
I love this card. However, my opponents do not. Minute, it comes down. One of my opponents will immediately throw a removal spell at it.

Vivien, Champion of the Wilds I'm usually not a huge fan of planeswalkers, but Vivien is an absolute powerhouse. She gives me a neat combat trick, but more importantly, filters the top 3 of my deck.

Alchemist's Refuge
My most resilient flash effect. Most people run 1-2 LD cards, so this sticks around far longer than any of my other effects. When combined with Seedborn Muse or Wilderness Reclamation, I can get multiple uses out of it

Leyline of Anticipation
It is very oppressive if I get in my opening hand. It sits behind my Orrerry as my most fragile and commonly removed flash effect

Manifest Cards

Orochi Soul-Reaver
A new way to interact with cards stolen by Theiving Amalgam. Getting a free 2/2 and a treasure token is absolutely bonkers and allows for some cool plays I'd otherwise not have access to in off colors.

Ugin's Mastery
While not officially out until August 4th, I've been testing it, and it's absolutely bonkers. Free extra bodies, double draw from Kadena, and demand some attention to be removed. On top of that, attacking with 3 morphs allows a free flip of any morph, which will (hopefully) cause more chaos

Primordial Mist
I'll be honest. I didn't like this card at all. But then I started using it, and it's honestly amazing. Like Scroll, it gives free 2/2s and anything I manifest with Scroll, Theiving Amalgam, and Whisperwood Elemental can be played without worry

Whisperwood Elemental
My board is clear insurance. Any face-up morphs that get removed and any mass boardwipe allow me to recover immediately. I've honestly been super happy with him

Thieving Amalgam
An alternative wincon. 7 mana is a lot to play, but being able to snag everyones card, gain life, damage my opponents, and even combo with Primordial Mist (if I have the right mana), also being a 5/7 means he's hard to kill in combat

Non-Morph Removal Spells

Vraska the Unseen
A somewhat versatile card. 5 mana planeswalker that can tick to 6 loyalty and kill any creature that swings in is great, and since she sits at 6 immediately, it takes a lot to kill her. Her -3 for an immediate removal is always a godsend, and of by the grace of God, she gets to ult it could win the game.

Beast Within
A very important effect. While I have a ton of removal on my morphs, it's very specific. Beast Within handles the unusual side of problematic creatures, lands, planeswalkers

Cyclonic Rift
Really needs no explanation needed

Cyber Conversion
A new Reality Shift which is even better. Sometimes, flipping a creature facedown is the same as exiling it. Also, he gets around any protection and prevents death triggers.

Vivien Reid
What doesn't she do for me. She digs for cards, she can act as removal, and she can be a way to close out games.

Ixidron
I love him so much. He's disruption, removal, and a headache. It's surprising how many people are adamant they can reflip their creatures until they do a rules lookup.

Untap Effects

Seedborn Muse
Every turn, I can develop my board, whether it's untapping everything, flashing stuff in, or going all out on my turn and not worry about mana issues.

Wilderness Reclamation
It is a much weaker version of Muse, but an important effect in that my deck really loves

Non-Morph Draw Spells

Secret Plans
It's just an overall solid card. Between Kadena giving me cards when I play Morphs, Beast Whisperer giving me cards when I cast Morphs, and now this giving me cards when I flip Morphs, I can draw up to 3 cards a turn. It's absolutely amazing.

Sylvan Library
A great card, can dig the same as Painful Truths, albeit at a much higher life cost, but the fact I can choose when and what cards I want, make it much more powerful for my deck that wants to keep a full hand.

Beast Whisperer
A second Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer is always good to have. With having over 30 creatures, rarely will ever not draw me a card.

Ways To Bounce Morphs To Hand

Crystal Shard
I love this card over all others. Very effective for my own spells, but when my opponents see it, they delay playing their commanders or their bigger creatures just in case.

Words of Wind
Great tempo card. Annoying enchantment. And let me remove opponents' boards.

Temur Sabertooth
This is a card that has bounced in and out of my lists before I made a rule he was staying, and it's paid off. Very cheap bounce effect to save morphs, survives and damage based removal spell, and being a 4 power creature he trades decently in combat. Plus, his effect isn't once per turn, so I can just mass bounce as many morphs as possible and dodge Wrath of God and Blasphemous Acts all day.

Utility Cards

They Came from the Pipes a 5 mana Kadena effect that comes with two bodies is insane. If I can't get Kadena to stick, I now have a good alternative.

Eternal Witness
Replacing Palace Siege, this is faster, less costly, plays really well with all my bounce triggers, and pairs nicely with Den Protector.

Panoptic Projektor
A great way to double all my morph effects and even ramp into more.

Opposition
Locking down my opponents one Saproling token at a time.

Utility Lands

Soporific Springs//Sink Into Stupor
Amazingly good counterspell and bounce spell.

Fell Mire//Fell the Profane
While 4 mana, killing a planeswalker or a creature outright makes up for it since I'm already light on spell based removal.

Bojuka Bog
Very good but somewhat awkward, graveyard hate. As stated in the 1.26.23 update Log, Bog has put me in awkward spots where I'll have it in my opening hand, but also lacking a black source/another land drop, it's still very valuable in preventing/delaying graveyard decks from overwhelming me

Wasteland
Solid removal option to set any opponent back.

Scavenger Grounds
As explained in a change, log this card, which shows up the awkwardness of Bojuka Bog and has the added benefit that it can be activated at any time

Reliquary Tower
A much needed card for all the value this deck generates.

Boseiju, Who Endures
It's a fun removal spell that pairs nicely with everything else in my deck.

Otawara, Soaring City
Kadena protection or even more disruption to go with Boseiju.
