Continuing to update this deck as we go

behemothdan, 4 years ago

You can also view the deck here: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/15HMKmz_Xkae-l9LbuT83A Added Lotus Cobra in exchange for Sylvan Ranger. Removed Valakut since there weren't enough Mountains to justify it, replaced it with the Cragcrown Pathway.

Brash Taunter!

Fantastic_Mr_King, 4 years ago

During my testing it became very obvious that my deck was too slow. It could grind to the late game with a full grip and still lose. I had 2 options: add incremental lifegain or make my deck faster. In mono red the lifegain options were pretty bad so I looked for ways to make my deck faster. As clunky as it seemed i decided to give Brash Taunter a shot. I was very happy with the BT. I was able to kill my opponent from over 20 life 2 games in a row. Afterwards I decided to rebuild my deck to be more midrange. I've been very happy with the results this far. To all my brewers out there: The best answers aren't always obvious. Keep an open mind while you sift through the pile. it's easy to mistake treasure for junk. Happy Brewing!

Upgrade

Upgraded to include better land base, and more functional cards for the deck. Also, added Narset incase you want to be even more disliked.

None

I am thinking of adding Angel's Grace that has the possibility of a combo with Necropotence. Just one specific combo piece does not bring enough redundancy to be efficient, but as this deck is not as powerful as the higher tiers of the cEDH and is also not as responsive, Angel's Grace can be a great addition to give me very fast reaction time and deck protection

Ramp Up

Took out Battle Hymn, Vessel of Volatility, and two of the less useful spirits for some more reliable ramp to hopefully smooth out the early game a bit more.

A return to Daze

GeminiSpartanX, 4 years ago

Long ago there was a debate as to whether this deck wanted to use Daze or Spell Pierce as the primary source of interaction outside of FoW. In the current meta, this deck can't afford to wait an extra turn to hold up a blue Mana before going off, nor can we hold off playing cantrips against other powerful decks to leave up Spell Pierce. With SSG in the deck to maximize instant win potential if either enabler spell resolves, Daze returns to the deck to increase the chance of successful turn 2-3 wins. I'm still partial to having Omniscience in the 75 since I enjoy getting emrakul's cast trigger, but other people would rather have the consistency of the 4th preordain in that spot. Either way, this version aims to combo as fast as possible in game 1 which fits my playstyle perfectly!

Best version - bang for the buck

MrMortifex145, 4 years ago

The version on the mainpage is IMO the best version so far after a lot of MTGO playtesting on everything, from brews to tier decks. After banning Fall from Favor this is a really fun midrange deck, and a great way to get into pauper!
