Last Word Discussion

Perhaps one of these would be useful? Calculated Dismissal , Last Word , Mystical Dispute , Rewind , Supreme Will . These are just the counterspells I found that seemed remotely worth considering; there are of course many other non-counterspell instants & sorceries to consider. I'd say Archmage's Charm seems like the best candidate to swap out, given its UUU casting cost.

Deck played pretty good. Achieved a strong board state consistently and within turn 4-5. Was able to combo off and win with infinite turns twice.

Wanted to try without Abzan Falconer and Tuskguard Captain but they are now back in.

Added more protection in the form of Last Word and Overwhelming Denial both of which can't be countered.

Wanted to have longer games but one of our group players decided he was going to try out his Breya with 30+ win cons by turn 4-6. Still deck did what I expected it do and now just finding ways to improve it's protection.

If you are in a more competitive environment, I would also strongly recommend running Counterspell as a strong, straightforward way to answer a game-winning play. If your meta is notorious for "always having counterspell backup" (meaning they player comboing off always has a counterspell), I'd suggest Last Word .

As for your own ways to win, you already have Deadeye Navigator , so I'd suggest Peregrine Drake for infinite mana.

Muldrotha also gives you re-use on enchantments that sacrifice themselves, such as Seal of Primordium and Seal of Doom .

Happy brewing!

Thank you for your comment. Demonic Tutor is out of place in this deck as this is about card draw and Counterspell within my playgroup is countered 8 out of 10 times it's cast.

Overwhelming Denial and Last Word are better choices just for the fact they themselves can't be countered.

They are more expensive but at least they will resolve and that is important. I feel with Counterspell I'm wasting a spell and mana for something that 90% of the time will get countered.

Sorry About the Delay.

So far I have a few suggestions:

I hope that this wasn't too overwhelming. If you need any more help just let me know!

Mana Leak, Last Word, Wizard's Retort, Overwhelming Denial, Devious Cover-Up, Desertion, Countervailing Winds, Bone to Ash, and Countermand are all some counterspells you don't have in here if you want more counters.

Mindleech Mass was in here, but during testing I just never really wanted to cast it. Shimian Specter is good if I run into an Athreos, God of Passage + Shadowborn Apostle deck (it was everywhere after the Command Zone episode and it was driving me insane. Luckily the deck has died down now). Doomsday Specter sounds interesting, and I love Kheru Mind-Eater. Glasses of Urza could be interesting, it would allow me to see if I wanted a certain opponent to discard their hand.

It's all good, I just remind people because I've posted and haven't been commented on before. I totally understand, I've done it too.

I've been on the fence about It That Betrays for a while, but Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire cannot be in the deck due to the green symbol in its mana cost.

Thanks for letting me know about Last Word in the land slot, I have no idea how it happened and probably wouldn't have noticed.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! You've given me a lot to think about (and thanks for not saying anything about Dragon Tempest, it gets annoying have to explain why that is in here sometimes)!
