K4nkato Thanks for the suggestion! Great card. Maybe i can run +3/+2 Curfew and cut some Disrupt or/and Into the Roil. I will try out. But i have to be careful cuz this deck NEEDS the " draw a card " effects to be effective.

Cards that I don't think are that strong and some replacement recommendations:

Disrupt ---> Thoughtseize

Plague Wind ---> Kindred Dominance

Oona's Blackguard ---> Thought Vessel

Murder ---> Crippling Fear

Must include lands: (maybe go up to 38 lands) Reliquary Tower

Command Tower

Path of Ancestry

Sea Gate Restoration  Flip

Other good/fun cards you should consider: Sol Ring (must have for commander)

Feed the Swarm (for the enchantment removal)

Bident of Thassa (good cards draw for small evasive creature decks)

Rhystic Study (annoy opponents/great card draw)

Torment of Hailfire (You should keep this one in, great finisher)

Silundi Vision  Flip (good replacement for one of your tapped lands)

Murderous Cut (cheap removal)

Dismember (cheap removal)

Opposition Agent

Hullbreacher

Spell Swindle

Mystic Confluence

What land based permanents do you need to remove? I find AU's instant speed to be quite worth the negligible 3 life; Even in a great naus deck, thats 3-5 cards. Its worth it to not lose the game. Sorcery really holds vindicate back.

Honestly, you should be winning with the one tutor. Necropotence in the command zone, use it boyo. The Bracers aren't why you're winning, its kind of a narrow winmore effect. Id say it was worth for a Stax list though, breaking parity on a ton of stax effects via your commander would be interesting (though non-competitive)

Rhystic Study isnt variably included in lieu of Mystic, run both the Ystics. They are broken.

I get that you probably like the infect line, but it could be much better allocated as interaction, and more mana ramp. Sadly infect and voltron don't actually win the game all that often in true competitive pods. Taking a player out, definitely. Two, maybe. Three? Cripes. Thats 3 attacks steps/turns. Quite a while in the Dockside meta.

Instant speed reanimation effects would be good to include, nothing sorcery speed though. You want to find Shimmer Myr and enough rocks off of Necro (for a bunch) to win on your endstep, Vamp/Enlightened tutor, or Entomb+Reanimate/Argivian Find works, as does just finding Shimmer Myr. You cast your in hand rocks, and jam out a win attempt. I can't remember the exact line used by the top of the meta Zur lists (I see them pretty rarely), but its after Myr. Might be IsoRev+Senseis? Ill look around a bit.

Spell Snare is the tip of the iceberg. Counterspells and removal are my jam! If your meta is fast enough, Disrupt is hilarious. Mystical Dispute is also slept on, its Mana Leak but better most of the time.

Yeah, proxy your Mox Diamond. I don't keep my old promos and duals in my decks anymore, I switched to proxying them years ago. Waaaay safer.

First off: this is a fantastic budget build. I love the dramatic/scepter combo—how quickly can we assemble it? I know you looked at my $75 budget deck and I hope you were able to gain something from it (thanks for the upvote and comment as well).

Here are my suggestions: Dizzy Spell will transmute for our hate pieces or our Sol Ring, if needed. Trophy Mage will fetch our Worn Powerstone. Alternatively, Drift of Phantasms will transmute for our Worn Powerstone, if needed. However, it is advised to have less creatures in Talrand for obvious reasons, including the following.

It will be crucial that we have rock power as quickly as possible once we have our dramatic/scepter combo pieces. This is why we should run Mass Polymorph and Synthetic Destiny. With Talrand, and a couple of drakes, we could Mass Polymorph into tutors for both all of our combo pieces at once and have them in hand.

This leads to the next area for consideration: protection. In my humble opinion, we are running a somewhat burdensome combo that realistically announces to your opponents “I’m going to win next turn.” (It’s ok, that’s my main beef with my own budget Talrand build as well). Also, once your opponents lose to this deck once, even those $2k cEDH decks seated at your table will lay the hate on you. Solution—You need more decisive and versatile countermagic to deal with the hate. Devious Cover-Up and Supreme Will are both decisive and versatile and serve purposes beyond mere countermagic. Overwhelming Denial is very decisive. Mental Misstep is a mini Force of Will. Abjure is decisive and has synergy with your commander. Void Shatter is harsh and decisive. Disrupt and Force Spike are soft, but you will be glad to have them, especially in a competitive meta. You may want to consider some oddball counters such as Time Stop. It’s too bad Cryptic Command and Mystic Confluence don’t fit the budget (or could they????). That’s maximal versatility.

Last word: by running Fact or Fiction, you are giving your opponents free reign to toss one of your combo pieces in the graveyard. Consider that. Also, is Opt really that great? I’ve been wondering about it in my own build. Also, just to nitpick and clean your title up: it’s “bucks”, not “buck’s” and you’re $5 over your $100 limit :)

I’m going to borrow some from you. Thanks.

In order of importance: Sphere of Resistance Drannith Magistrate\Lavinia, Azorius Renegade, Frozen Aether, Arcane Laboratory, Rule of Law, Hannah, Ship's Navigator. Dream Trawler would be a fun addition as he serves triple duty as an evasive beatstick blocker that produces great card draw. I’m concerned that consecrated Sphinx will fill our hand too quickly given the grinding-halt board state we intend to produce. We need to dramatically reduce the number of creatures. We should take out Thalia as she’s better for creature-based strategies (such as Derevi) and is counterproductive to enchantment and artifact based strategies. We could remove world queller, Teferi (I know, it hurts!), Vedalken mastermind, and Elesh Norn (yes, that’s rough). We need far more countermagic to protect our oppressive board state. I recommend Dovin's Veto, Miscast, Force Spike, Spell Pierce, Mana Tithe (is amazing because it’s off color) and last but not least Disrupt. You could replace some of your counters with these and you will be satisfied because of their synergy with a stax build. Just be sure to know exactly how much open mana your opponent have at all times. We need to devise a secondary win con (stax struggles with this so be creative). Good luck.

Not a great card, but if you want a replacing permission piece, I do love Disrupt ;)

0rc on Go with the Flow! Legacy High Tide

3 years ago

I get it. I only play 2 legacy decks: Fish and my Kobolds (it’s here on T/O— it’s weird), but I’ve played against quite a few archetype decks, however. I’ve never seen a High Tide deck before. Kinda interesting.

I disagree that Daze is a softer counter than Flusterstorm for the reasons stated above, but I’ll lay off of it.

At any rate, If you need a 1 CMC counter Flusterstorm isn’t optimum. Spell Pierce, Force Spike, and Disrupt are all better overall.

I hope this helps.
