Rishadan Footpad Discussion

SideBae on We have our heading!

So Rishadan Cutpurse, Rishadan Footpad and Rishadan Brigand are all pirates. I've always been successfully annoyed when an opponent plays them against me.

I suggest running 2-drop rocks over 3-drops. I think you should run cards like Rakdos Signet over Obelisk of Grixis. I think Talisman of Indulgence, Talisman of Dominance and Talisman of Creativity are probably better than the signets though.

Snap seems better than Depths of Desire.

Dack Fayden is probably a good fit for this deck. He's powerful and a thief (sorta a land-pirate, I guess).

Ponder and Preordain belong in any blue deck, including this one. Brainstorm is good if you get fetch-lands, but I wouldn't run it unless you have fetch lands.

Spectral Sailor is a good way to sink extra mana. Dockside Extortionist is good for getting mana.

Rhystic Study and Mystic Remora are good draw-engines.

I think Bribery is worth including. Also Coastal Piracy.

The cuts are going to depend on how much you're willing to compromise flavor. Captain's Hook, Prying Blade, Fell Flagship and Dusk Legion Dreadnought seem like good cuts. There're also a bunch of creatures you can cut for better ones or to get down to a hundred cards: Brazen Buccaneers, Crafty Cutpurse, Rigging Runner, Siren Lookout, Slippery Scoundrel and Talas Warrior. I don't think they do enough to be included.

That's all I got -- hope this helped.

Good luck

Hey man! I got a few suggestions:

  1. Vintage Xerox-style cards are very powerful in EDH. Ponder and Preordain belong in pretty much any blue deck, and Brainstorm is good if you put in three or four more fetch lands to prevent yourself from getting Brainstorm -locked. Between them, these three will make sure you get to what you need and past what you don't; they may not look good, but they're busted. Some fetches (outside the Zendikar/Onslaught cycles) to consider: Grasslands , Flood Plain , Bad River (which will all grab your Hallowed Fountain and Prairie Stream ), Evolving Wilds , Prismatic Vista , etc.

  2. Swords to Plowshares is the best spot-removal in the game... I suggest running it, even though I'm generally against one-for-ones in EDH as usually they're simply not efficient enough; however, Swords to Plowshares is one mana, does not ramp your opponent like Path to Exile , and a single one-for-one is alright.

  3. Narset, Parter of Veils is an EXCELLENT card I see you're running. Consider universal mass-draw to accompany her: Timetwister is the best, but as it costs the same as a used car, Windfall is a much more common option.

  4. You've got a good amount of artifact ramp, but there're some other rocks you should consider. Talisman of Progress is a really good two-mana mana-rock you should consider, and Voltaic Key / Manifold Key pair well with your Mana Vault and Basalt Monolith . Even if your general is flickering the vault so it enters untaps, the keys will make two additional mana.

  5. Whir of Invention is an artifact-tutor to consider. If you have access, Transmute Artifact and Reshape are also great. These will get whatever Stax piece you need, or, more likely, find your Isochron Scepter if you have Dramatic Reversal in hand.

  6. Silence is a good form of combo-protection. On the turn you want to go off, it can be difficult to ensure that you're not facing any counter magic. Silence is a must-counter that you can use to blank an opponent's turn if necessary.

  7. There are some other flicker-able cards in your colors you should consider. Watcher for Tomorrow is a good way to Impulse every time you trigger your general. Rishadan Cutpurse is similar to your Rishadan Footpad , though being less mana to cast is significant; since Rishadan Footpad is four mana, it'll be competing with your general to be cast. I'm not sure if it's quite good enough for a final list, but I've seen Ichor Wellspring in a lot of Brago lists. If you choose to run snow-covered basics, Arcum's Astrolabe seems straight better than the wellspring. Finally, Snapcaster Mage can be BUSTED if you have the funds to get ahold of it.

  8. I see you have the Archaeomancer + Temporal Manipulation loop. Have you considered Savor the Moment instead of Temporal Manipulation ? If you flicker your general and three mana in rocks, you can pull off the loop with less mana (your general untaps the mana and himself).

  9. Depending on your meta, Devout Lightcaster seems like a pretty busted flicker target. Similarly, consider Chill , Sphere of Law and Tidal Control .

Good luck! Hope this helps.

I highly suggest running Rishadan Brigand , Rishadan Footpad and Rishadan Cutpurse . They're all pirates, but their surprise 'tax' abilities make them really powerful.

I also notice you're running a lot of 1-for-1s. It's important to remember that in EDH you're frequently playing against at least 2 opponents, and more frequently than not you're facing 3. Thus, you're already facing 3x as many cards as you have on your side. (Alliances being discounted as they only work when you're trying not to lose, as opposed to when you're trying to win.) In this sort of situation, 1-for-1s aren't where you want to be. I suggest Ashes to Ashes over Contract Killing and Toxic Deluge over Walk the Plank . (I realize this may remove some of the flavor.) Cast Down is worth reconsidering as well. Perhaps Pyroclasm or Volcanic Fallout would be better.

Cavern of Souls is expensive and ranges from very effective to irrelevant. If you have money and your meta is like mine and filled with countermagic, investing in it is a good idea.

I usually suggest Slate of Ancestry only for decks heavy on the 'spam little dudes' plan, but this deck strikes me as often having a sizable army on the field. You should consider running it.

I'm not sure how good Angrath, Captain of Chaos is. I advise either Pithing Needle or Sorcerous Spyglass instead. They deal with walkers, but more importantly they also deal with ANYthing with a non-mana activated ability. You may be partial to Sorcerous Spyglass if only because it depicts a pirate in the art; I also think it is slightly better, as you can strand a fetch land in the opponent's hand before s/he has a chance to even play it.

Bribery is a good card in EDH if your meta is filled with fatties and the like. I advise maindecking it.

Ancient Tomb is an almost strictly-better Temple of the False God . If you have access to it, you should run it.

I would run Daring Saboteur over Storm Fleet Sprinter . EDH games are often decided by card advantage/card selection, and the Saboteur gives you the ability to loot, at least a little. Similarly, you might consider running Faithless Looting .

Control Magic is a better Abduction , and you may have luck with it in the maindeck. That is probably a meta call though.

Notion Thief isn't a pirate, but he steals things... Same goes for Dack Fayden , and they're both superb in EDH. You should at least consider running them. (Note that together, if you target an opponent with Dack's +1, you draw two and that opponent discards two.)

Syphon Mind is a good draw spell, if you like the idea of 'stealing' things from your opponents.

Silent Gravestone is on-flavor and provides a level of graveyard hate. It stops most reanimation spells, and cycles as a worst-case scenario. I prefer Grafdigger's Cage , but the Silent Gravestone is likely more on-flavor.

Role Reversal is another card to consider, as it allows you to swap a treasure for a more powerful artifact or a dorky creature for a fatter one.

Good luck with deck building!

GhostChieftain you know that the most popular stax lists aren't artifact/enchantment based?

In cEDH, Brago flicker using cards like Rishadan Cutpurse , Rishadan Footpad , etc. and Tana/Tymna blood pod with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben , Kataki, War's Wage , etc. all are creatures.

Outside of cEDH, decks like hatebears in Gaddock Teeg shells, etc. are popular, what does Harmonic Sliver do against them xD

Some includes that I would highly recommend for your build are cards like:

All are pretty much value cards that are super abuseable with Brago, and as RecklessN7 mentioned as well. The parallax cards are a hell of a good enchantment to run as well and I would consider them as well!
