Creature — Viashino Rogue

When Dagger Caster enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to each opponent and 1 damage to each creature your opponents control.

You could add the following to make this deck a bit faster, and they're all quite cheap:

Sol Talisman Rakdos Signet Fire Diamond Charcoal Diamond Prismatic Lens Worn Powerstone

cards to remove: Blackblade Reforged, The Eldest Reborn, Smoldering Egg, Volcanic Dragon, Ring of Xathrid, Rune of Mortality

aslo i'd swap Victim of Night for Grim Bounty

i think you want to consider Swiftfoot Boots replacing Ring of Valkas

you should also really consider taking out the dragons for: Blood Cultist Dagger Caster Blood Cultist Prodigal Pyromancer Morbid Opportunist Deathbringer Thoctar Fireslinger Cunning Sparkmage

when those get deathtouch, you can ice any creature that poses a threat to zagras

I would optimize the buffs you give zagras to +3 power so you can kill people in 3 attacks Grafted Wargear Heirloom Blade

double strike is actually way better since the deathtouch will kill the creature on first strike damage: Fireshrieker Lizard Blades Embercleave Assault Strobe Berserkers' Onslaught Blood Mist

Markov Blademaster Temur Battle Rage

Hey, good budget version of Zagras.

Dagger Caster is another Goblin Chainwhirler effect who's much easier to cast. Chainer, Nightmare Adept and Viscera Seer combine to repeatedly cast Caster or Chainwhirler or other creatures. Seer sacs the creature and then you can cast it again from your graveyard with Chainer. This interaction is also good with Taborax, Hope's Demise and Malakir Blood-Priest for repeatable draw/grow Taborax/each opponent loses life/you gain life each time Priest ETB. Hooded Blightfang is repeatable life loss for each opponent and life gain for you since it triggers for each creature with deathtouch who attacks.

Pain Seer, Oona's Blackguard and Goblin Cratermaker are good budget two drops for party. Seer and Cratermaker can really benefit when having deathtouch. Chaos Warp and Feed the Swarm are ways to remove an opponent's enchantment in Rakdos and Warp can remove any permanent which is very versatile instant removal.

Dark Ritual can help to ramp into a quick Zagras. Command Tower is a staple Rainbow land in Commander for multicolored decks and Path of Ancestry is another Rainbow land that can be repeatable scry when you cast a Rogue or Vampire with it.

These 13 cards can could be added for around $8 at TCGPlayer, see list

Some budget upgrades to consider:

  • Dagger Caster --> Viashino Fangtail
  • Chainer, Nightmare Adept --> Graveshifter
  • Viscera Seer --> Bloodlord of Vaasgoth
  • Malakir Blood-Priest --> Mogg War Marshal
  • Hooded Blightfang --> Judith, the Scourge Diva
  • Pain Seer --> Rushblade Commander
  • Oona's Blackguard --> Blackbloom Rogue
  • Goblin Cratermaker --> Banewhip Punisher
  • Chaos Warp --> Walk the Plank
  • Feed the Swarm --> Price of Fame
  • Dark Ritual --> Forked Bolt
  • Command Tower --> 1x Mountain
  • Path of Ancestry --> 1x Swamp

Good luck with your deck.

Thank you!

Honestly, I've been thinking about dropping the Sorin altogether. If I haven't killed all of your creatures by the time I get him to ult, I'm doing something wrong and it's likely too late.

Ditto with Scythe of the Wretched it was an awesome idea, but very mana intensive if I want to steal more than one creature in a turn.

Sanguinary Mage fits the Party and Vampire Tribal themes, which is 2 out of 3 themes for the deck, and also is low CMC. So she stays. Prowess doesn't help much with her, but is certainly an added bonus.

Cloak and Dagger is an insta shield for my commander. No brainer.

Goblin Chainwhirler is a tricky one to cut. I have had it go off in a game. It's a powerhouse. And while Dagger Caster does the same thing for fewer reds and is a rogue, we're talking about 99 cards and only two tutors.

So I think what I'll do for now is cut Sorin and the Scythe for the Arena and the Champion, and see how it goes.

A couple unrelated notes in closing. First, you inspired me to work Door of Destinies into Always Loot the Bodies. Second, what do you say to replacing Kumano, Master Yamabushi with Vampiric Dragon? Much higher CMC, but is a vampire. Could just try it and see, but might as well ask while I have you.

Bloodsucker1211 I said

"Goblin Chainwhirler, and Dagger Caster are one sided Damnation's. Both Deathbringer Thoctar, and Goblin Sharpshooter do some serious work in a very similar way. Additionally Thornbite Staff on any pinger will also work the same way"

What I'm saying is that, like Goblin Chainwhirler... Deathbringer Thoctar and Goblin Sharpshooter can wipe the board. Then I follow up by saying that if you can put the thornbite Staff on any pinger to create another Goblin Sharpshooter effect. Like a machine gun. Like a board wipe. If I throw the staff on a non pinger then its 2 mana per ping. Being conditional this ways it's not the same. I hope that clears it up.

I like Arena. I own one too. It could slot in pretty easily. I'm gonna try it out before adding it to this list.

Hey, nice start on budget. Kyle_Winter gave you some good advice to help the party. My advice is to help the manabase, ramp and draw.

First, you don't need 42 lands, that's overkill for your deck. 36 lands should be fine. Consider cutting some lands for more ramp sources? Budget lands and ramp to consider adding:

Consider cutting some basic lands for these lands?

Ramp can be a problem with Rakdos because these colors lack lots of options, but one way to help to not miss land drops is to play low mana cost draw. Cards like these can replace ramp because for a low mana cost they can help to draw into lands or party members who then act like ramp to cast Zagras.

Repeatable draw sources are best in Commander because they can potentially give you value throughout the entire game. With Zagras cards that give you value who are party creatures or when you attack/do combat damage are options:

Oddsmaker and Mask are nice with Zagras because he has flying.

Some advice about game play. I would keep the mana curve very low because you want to assemble a party for Zagras as that's what makes Zagras a mana efficient and potentially good Commander. The lower the mana curve the easier it will be to have two or more party members on the battlefield to help to cast Zagras. In fact, for your deck I would end the curve at Dagger Caster and Drana, the Last Bloodchief as these are abilities and effects at the top that go well with Zagras. I would limit the four drops to very few.

Roving Keep is an example of a creature you don't need because it's high CMC and doesn't help the party or have interaction with Zagras. Zof Consumption is an example of a spell that you don't need even though if you want can play it as a tapped land. Consumption for six mana is not worth what it does.

I offer more advice about what cards to cut. Would you like more advice?

Good luck with your deck.

Hey, I agree assembling a party to reduce the cost of Zagras seems important, at least two party members. Zagras for six or five mana is lackluster stats, but for four, three or two mana then he's above curve. My advice is add a few more two or three drop party members especially two drops. Coveted Prize is a budget payoff for wanting to assemble a party; it can tutor for Goblin Chainwhirler or Dagger Caster and you can potentially cast it for free.

Some suggestions for party members. Harsh Mentor is a good card in multiplayer Commander, shuts down some combos. Varchild's War-Riders (errata to Human Warrior) can give all your opponents creatures so you can kill them with pingers/deathtouch. Robber of the Rich can steal your opponents cards and Zagras is a Rogue. Azra Oddsmaker can be a repeatable draw source. Goblin Cratermaker is versatile removal in Commander. Dualcaster Mage Forks are good in multiplayer Commander.

Magus of the Wheel, Azra Oddsmaker, Doomed Necromancer, Dualcaster Mage, Goblin Cratermaker, Viscera Seer, Blood Scrivener, Asylum Visitor, Soldevi Adnate these party members are good with Chainer, Nightmare Adept especially Magus and Necromancer. Chainer could also give pingers haste if you cast them from your graveyard or reanimate them. With Seer and Chainer keep casting Goblin Chainwhirler or Dagger Caster from your graveyard.

Good luck with your deck.

Just a few cards to consider cutting (if you haven't already):
Cult Guildmage
Dagger Caster
Eye Collector
Rakdos Firewheeler
Scorch Spitter
Smoldering Werewolf  Flip
Kaya's Ghostform
Omen of the Dead

These are just to name a few, which don't directly work with your strategy, and are more or less filler spots to create a playable deck. Consider swapping them for cards that work directly with your spellslinging strategy.

Spells to consider adding:
See the Truth
Cruel Ultimatum
Epic Experiment
Comet Storm (Or any sort of effect like this)
River's Rebuke
Counterspells. Just, counterspells.

Creatures that benefit from spells or help spells:
Firebrand Archer
Talrand, Sky Summoner
Murmuring Mystic
Young Pyromancer
Guttersnipe
Goblin Electromancer

I would also consider bringing up the land count to at least 37. A deck like this is going to want to make land drops every turn, and that'll help. It feels bad making room for all the lands, but it is worth it.
