I never got around to buying the cards needed for this deck. I was worried it was not good enough and put this project on the back burner in case I changed my mind. Now today, after reviewing the deck, I decided that I did not have enough interaction and that some cards still feel a bit too expensive or slow. These changes should hopefully help rectify those issues.

Previous changes: -1. Aetherspouts - replaced with Noxious Ghoul. I determined that Noxious Ghoul did not have enough impact for its mana cost. Instead I shall be using Counterspell. -2. Eater of Hope - replaced with Corpse Harvester. I determined that Corpse Harvester was too expensive and too slow to make an impact, seeing as it needs to survive an entire turn in order to be used. I really liked it, but my deck needs more interaction. Instead I shall be using Arcane Denial.

Additional precon card swaps: 1. Gravespawn Sovereign - replaced with Negate. 2. Ravenous Rotbelly - replaced with Dispel. 3. Army of the Damned - replaced with Unwind This spell really hurt me to remove as I love it very much. Just too expensive and slow. 4. Dread Summons - replaced with Reality Shift. 5. Curse of the Restless Dead - replaced with Thought Vessel. 6. Swamp - replaced with Reliquary Tower (already owned one, figured, why not?)

The biggest potential weakness I see in this deck is that there's a sort of "cost void" between your 1-drops and your big demons, and the biggest threats in the deck may not be the most mana efficient. For instance, I'd probably run Desecration Demon or Demon of Catastrophes in a sacrifice deck instead of Goremand . I imagine he's a pet card for you though, so maybe you could lean more into the reanimator angle to cheat him in quickly. Most modern versions seem to be running Goryo's Vengeance into Griselbrand and praetors still, but I tend to prefer the budget alternatives. Some additions to Blood for Bones and Gravewaker are repeated activation creatures like Hell's Caretaker and Whisper, Blood Liturgist . Unburial Rites is also fairly popular if you don't mind splashing white. For the discard, staples include Thoughtseize , Collective Brutality , Ransack the Lab , and Mind Rake . For sacrifice synergy, I think Smallpox and Sinister Concoction could be options too. I'm also a big fan of creatures that mill for this role such as Stitcher's Supplier (which helps to play the very useful Gravecrawler ) or the green Satyr Wayfinder and all its Mulch brethren. Reanimator lets you play other big threats too, some of which could be Razaketh, the Foulblooded , Eater of Hope , or Xathrid Demon to stick with the demon theme. Another card I see as being pretty expensive here is Soul Foundry . The aforementioned Hell's Caretaker can usually produce a similar result without the 1 mana tax every turn. Furthermore, the tokens it creates could interfere with Grim Haruspex , a card draw engine I usually prefer to Dark Prophecy (or maybe Harvester of Souls if I'm feeling spicy.) There is some downside in cutting noncreature permanents for their creature counterparts, so choose the option that is being hit by removal the least in your meta. If creature hate is a problem, maybe a Grave Pact or Dictate of Erebos could dissuade your opponents.

Hi! Thank you for creating this deck, i was looking for some cool demon deck, but only what i found were just decks filled with some expensive demons. However this deck has interesting engine in it that can cheat out demons or bring them back again from graveyard, and i love it! I'm playing it often, and still enjoying it. I made some personal changes, because not every card was available to me or i just wanted different demons there. :)

From sorcery i just cut out Duress, because i didn't need it, and it created space for more demons. :)

So for creatures: i kept all small dudes spawning small creatures - basically your nice cheating engine is kept untouched. However i made changes to some demons. Here is my list of demons:

  • one more Abhorrent Overlord because this card is fantastic in this deck as it spawns small creatures to sacrifice or chump block. So overall i have 2 of them in deck.

  • i kept Eater of Hope

  • i kept Kothophed, Soul Hoarder

  • i added 2x Overseer of the Damned because it creates more small creatures and can destroy enemy threat each time u pull him out.

  • added 2x Archfiend of Spite cuz he can be awesome blocker and also you can cheat him from hand as a surprise for its madness cost when you discard him with Call the Bloodline

  • added 1x Harvester of Souls as another card draw engine, and potential blocker for enormous creatures.

  • added 1x Lord of the Void cuz he is just so damn strong and people freak out when i pull him on board. :D

  • as an experiment i added 1x Desecration Demon but eventually i decided to remove him because if opponent have a lot of creatures, sacrificing one of them is not good enough for you and you have nor attacker or blocker. I put there 1x Griselbrand instead, because this deck lacks lifegain a little bit. I wish i could put there Westvale Abbey  Flip to get Ormendahl, Profane Prince but this card is unavailable for me.

Having Liliana's Contract as an alternate win condition is great, because some decks like to get tons of life, so with that you can surpass it.

Overall this deck performed very well for me, it is also good against mill, because if he mills your demons into your graveyard, you just need to pull them on board, you don't want to draw them anyways. :D

Hey there, I have some suggestions first would be Plaguecrafter you already have two similar effects but the control over the board is always welcome, because it is hard to outgrind Meren when she does her thing.

As Greg said try, to get your hands on as many 1 drop manadorks as you can,so you can speed up your engine because you will draw hate as Meren fast and if you are heavily disrupted in the early stages of the game it can get tricky to get a foothold on The board later on (sidenote Exploration and Burgeoning may also help).

I also enjoy Birthing Pod in my Meren deck as a reapeatable tutor/saccoutlet it can help to get the creatures you need in some situations.

Also maybe add 1-2 additional artifact/enchantment removal spells in case something like Torpor Orb hits the field which would screw you up otherwise.

Last as mentioned try to get your hands on a Viscera Seer free saccoutlets are very powerful in your deck and the cheaper they are the better they become, Phyrexian Tower would also be a major upgrade to your manabase.

Suggestions to cut: Winding Constrictor yes you have a +1counter subtheme but the creatures are either removed if they get too big or not online at all which makes this card more or less a vanillacreature

Wall of Blossoms :it's often used as a filler to thin your deck a little but you would profit more from a simple manadork

Korozda Guildmage effects are too expensive in my opinion would fit way better in something like Ghave, Guru of Spores as your not the typical go wide deck

Eater of Hope to expensive for a a evasive beater and you could have better saccoutlets if you want a scary creature for The top of your curve Terastodon would be better in my opinion or Attrition for the removalaspect

Extractor Demon would be fin if you had more cards to reanimate creatures of The opponent but the mill alone isn't Wörth it mostly

Vulturous Zombie ...meh

Hope some of these suggestions help with The deck.

I like the changes! Looks like a solid deck. The last thing I would do to tune it is look at the bottom end of the curve. Gibbering Fiend and Pilfering Imp are cute, but now that you've removed your token producers, you'll have a tough time feeding Demonlord of Ashmouth , Eater of Hope , Xathrid Demon , Shadowborn Demon , and Infernal Offering . You've still got some cards that care about going wide, like Torrent of Souls , Hellrider , and Skirsdag High Priest .

The rate on Hordeling Outburst is good. For a reanimator deck, Skirk Ridge Exhumer , Cryptbreaker , Call the Bloodline , and Silversmith are also good. At the top end of the curve, Abhorrent Overlord could also warrant consideration. Also, in the land slot, if you feel your manabase is good, I like Kher Keep . Speaking of the manabase, Urborg Volcano and Tresserhorn Sinks are better in your deck than Evolving Wilds or Terramorphic Expanse . Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace is a good utility land for reanimator. Also, Pyramid of the Pantheon and Molten Slagheap are real bad. Myriad Landscape is miles better.

My favorite low-curve option for pumping out bodies is Hanweir Garrison . Hanweir Battlements would be a sweet addition, as well, and I think it's better in this deck than Hammer of Purphoros . You don't really want to be taxing your lands with a deck full of 5+ drops, and I could say the same for Underworld Connections . It looks like a budget Phyrexian Arena , but it's really not. You're pretty good on card draw at this point, but if you really feel the need for another source, Night's Whisper is a clean, solid option.

@griffstick: Went back to Lazav, the Multifarious... I'm currently trying to find ways for stuff like Leveler, Eater of Hope, & others in there. But I have to ask; is their downside part of the effects? & after switching names but keeping effects, how long does this last? Is it Indefinite, or after the end of turn? This was never addressed in the Rulings for this card...

I'll see if I can find anything I could use as a base from here.

@ShaharRyu & ZendikariWol: I'll start w/ the former. Since I've returned to this Lazav for good, what else would you suggest for this? I'll be list looking from there. For the Latter, I Apologize for switching Etrata, but this is far superior anyway; I just am finding some stuff that might somehow fit; though I wonder if Banshee of the Dread Choir would insta-kill a whole field when using Vector Asp, Blighted Agent, & Phyrexian Dreadnought?

That said, I'm now inspiration-searching from here...

mfogle you'll definitely like my most recent revisions.

I've replace Archdemon of Unx and Eater of Hope and Carnifex Demon for Kuro, Pitlord. Acrhdemon is to slow, eater needs to many resources to be efficient and carnifex has the problem of hitting my commander and has limited kill potential and use.

I've included Secret Salvage which is ideal for a shadowborn EDH deck and Archfiend of Despair shuts down life gain while doubling life loss.

Best of all I dropped Bloodgift Demon for Krav, the Unredeemed who is perfect for a shadowborn deck.

Lastly I think I'll swap Reprocess for Liliana's Contract when I am able to, reprocess can net you more cards but you have to have the available creatures to sac, versus contract will net you four cards no matter what, plus the additional win con makes it an excellent card for this build.

Let me know what kind of build you go with when its finished, I'd recommend all of the above mentioned.
