You're so cool Brewster. Evolving mono black devotion and black 'good stuff' build I'm working on.

Theme

Putting pressure on the board with -1 effects, sacrifices, wraths and creatures that return from the grave. Builds devotion through enchantments and cheap creatures.

Work in progress, and very new to EDH so feedback welcome!!

Commander

Ascendant Evincar : Token wrath and creature boost on a body. Looks like a scary vampire general. Dies to bolt.

Enchantments

Grave Pact\Dictate of Erebos:when a creature we control dies, the whole group has to sacrifice a creature.

No Mercy: Dread without a body. Builds devotion, loses friends.

Draw

Phyrexian Arena\Necropotence: some of the best draw engines ever printed (and banned).

Night's Whisper\Sign in Blood\Read the Bones: flexible draw and sc(a)ry effects in exchange for life.

Tutors

Demonic Tutor: oldie but a goldie. But needs to be the original art. With his book.

Diabolic Tutor: not quite as good. Not quite as expensive.

Enchantments

Black Market\Dark Prophecy: profit from the death of our and other creatures, and help build devotion.

Oversold Cemetery: recursion and devotion

Animate Dead\Beacon of Unrest\Reanimate\ Ritual of the Machine \Rise of the Dark Realms: steal opponents creatures, bring back our own.

Wraths

In Garruk's Wake: hits planeswalkers we don't control as well as creatures.

Toxic Deluge: life is something we are happy to pay.

Mutilate: cheap effect for mono

Exsanguinate: life gain that hits all opponents fuelled by our hefty mana production.

Do or Die: politics and removal. Can combo with Karn, Silver Golem if we make their artifacts creatures.

Removal

Cannibalize: flavour to die for. Exiles, so useful against graveyard decks or creatures with recursion. Sorcery speed.

Slaughter : 4 life is cheap recursion for a Doom Blade. Only hits non-black.

Tendrils of Corruption : swamps matter + lifegain.

Malicious Affliction : Doom Blade with the potential to hit two targets.

Politics

Temporal Extortion : who's going to pay it?

Creatures

Abhorrent Overlord: Token generation off devotion. Fodder for Grave Pact etc.

Avatar of Woe: the more we wrath and sac the cheaper it gets. Hard to block and reusable removal effect.

Bloodghast: sackable creature with 'free' recursion off landfall

Body Snatcher : Old Urza's block rare. Can drop recursion creatures or bombs into the graveyard, and when it dies it brings one back to the battlefield.

Butcher of Malakir : sac effect on a flying vampire fattie.

Crypt Ghast: lifegain and mana boosts.

Disciple of Bolas: lifegain and card draw and the ability to sac a creature.

Dread: no mercy on a body. Can be shuffled back into the deck for tutoring

Erebos, God of the Dead : shuts down lifegain and offers card draw on a potentially indestructible body.

Erebos's Titan : devotion monster. Potential recursion with our stealing from opponents graveyards. May turn indestructible after a wrath.

Fleshbag Marauder\Merciless Executioner: universal sac effects in Orc and Zombie flavours.

Gatekeeper of Malakir : devotion builder. Sac effect

Geralf's Messenger : super devotion builder. Undying

Grave Titan: bomb. Token generating, deathtouch fattie.

Gray Merchant of Asphodel: loves devotion. Lifegain swings.

Karn, Silver Golem: black can't deal with artifacts? Make them creatures.

Kokusho, the Evening Star: massive life swings.

Massacre Wurm: ETB token wrath and then abuses sac effects.

Phyrexian Obliterator: massive devotion. Massive claws. Massive threat.

Reassembling Skeleton: sac it. Bring it back. Sac it. Bring it back. Sac it...

Shriekmaw : God bless evoke

Vampire Hexmage: counter remover

Withered Wretch : devotional graveyard hater. Particularly for mono mirrors.

Artifact enablers

Sol Ring, Extraplanar Lens, Chrome Mox, Jet Medallion, Charcoal Diamond, Mana Vault, Mind Stone, Skull of Ramos : round up the usual suspects. And Skull of Ramos .

Artifact disablers

Lashwrithe : swamps matter

Nevinyrral's Disk: when you have to absolutely destroy everything on the board. Except lands. Anson Maddocks art only.

Powder Keg : boom!!

Cards I'm considering

Diabolic Intent. It's got Crovax on it. And it encourages sacking.

Vampiric Tutor: another flavour of tutor.

Sidisi, Undead Vizier: we don't mind sacking stuff, so...

abysall gatekeeper: slightly worse than Fleshbag Marauder\Merciless Executioner?

Bane of the Living: wrath on a morphing bug.

Brood of Cockroaches : better than Nether Shadow for guaranteed recursion?

Caged Sun\Gauntlet of Power: not sure we need the boost.

Consumptive Goo : The Blob 1. Absorbs mana. Kills creatures. Boosts itself.

Necroplasm: The Blob 2. Gets a bit bigger. Then wraths and dies.

Chime of Night : if something's going to the graveyard anyway, why not take a friend?

Crypt Rats: wrath on a rat.

Devour in Shadow : kills anything. For life.

Dunerider Outlaw : is protection from green on a devotion creature relevant?

Duplicant: gives us another exile effect.

Tyrant's Choice : torture you? Feel like another political card.

Gate to Phyrexia: because we really don't like artifacts.

Phthisis : Unpronounceable. Unescapable.

Kalastria Highborn : probably not enough vamps to make this useful.

Victimize: sac and recursion.

Black Knight \ Order of the Ebon Hand \ Stromgald Crusader \ Knight of Stromgald : old school black devotion Knights, ideally with added buzz saw shields.

Last Laugh : just to make the deck a shade more black.
