I have replaced Diabolic Revelation, Elder Mastery, and Lightning Reaver with Archfiend of Depravity, Indulgent Tormentor, and Rune-Scarred Demon, because the newer cards far better fit the theme of this deck than did the older cards, which, unfortunately, increased this deck's average converted mana cost from 4.40 to 4.42, but that increase is deceptive, since I would need to spend a minimum of 7 mana on Diabolic Revelation to truly get a good bargain from it.

To deal with stalling out, more draw can't hurt. Syphon Mind, Phyrexian Arena, Read the Bones, Sign in Blood, Night's Whisper, Ambition's Cost and Ancient Craving are all decent ideas.

I would add some more interaction as a preventative measure for staying power such as Contamination and/or Infernal Darkness. How are they gonna wipe if they can't cast spells? Swapping out your 4cmc lili for Karn, the Great Creator could be worth considering as well. Having one of the above enchantments + karn = fun times.

I personally disagree with insidious dreams because 1) It's an additional cost to cast. Without any anti-blue measures in the deck, this would be strongly meta dependent IMO. 2) It doesn't bring the cards to hand. Even ignoring mill, you have to wait to draw them or cast an additional draw spell just to get them. Why not add a more expensive CMC card that can accomplish what you're looking for? Your avg cmc is low enough to support it. Something like Peer into the Abyss (synergy with Archfiend of Despair) or Diabolic Revelation might work for you. Never hurts to try insidious though.

While not necessary, have you considered an alternate wincon? Rings of Brighthearth + cabal coffers + Deserted Temple = . You have a lot of flexibility in your landbase, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth can reduce the amount of swamps you need. Temple can be used for politics and ramp with coffers on it's own. Rings synergizes with your commander, your shadowborn apostyles and several other cards. Adding in fetches could allow you to ramp. All depends on your goals + budget.

You have no instants. While I'm personally biased, Imp's Mischief can "counter" counterspells and redirect targeted removal, draw and extra turns! You definitely need an instant or two to bluff.

I have replaced Diabolic Revelation with Sidisi, Undead Vizier, since I feel that she better fits the theme of this deck.

Profet93 on Devotion to Darkness - Erebos Control

Solid reasoning. Let me ask you this....

  1. How much blue is prevalent in your meta?
  2. How often do you cast insidious dreams and then immediately use your commander to put them in your hand? It costs 4 mana to cast, then 6 mana to draw 3 cards + 6 life for a total of 10 mana + 6 life. Would you not be better served by casting Diabolic Revelation for x = 3 for 8 mana to get the cards A) immediately in hand B) Less counterspell downside C) No lifeloss? I understand the discard aspect can be useful, but with all the discard black has, is that aspect of the card worth all of the 3 negatives listed above? I'm aware Sensei's top can dig one card deeper to assist you

To piggyback off of SufferFromEDHD's suggestion, if contamination does not seem to work for you, have you considered Infernal Darkness? It keeps your coffers active, is easy to sustain for 1-2 turns, and acts as counterspell/removal bait.

While not an entirely serious suggestion, have you considered Mind Stone? Only 2 of your artifacts ramp your commander our more quickly. This helps get turn 3 commander. Its ramp when you need it, draw when you don't Solid reliable and dependable.

Deliver Unto Evil - Its recursion and politics (kind of). They either give you back combo piece like citadel or some good reanimation or removal spell. It's cousin, Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed is an unblockable eternal witness for black cards. Given it's a creature you can recur it to recur important enchantments. Not too bad with Whip of Erebos either

Alhammarret's Archive - I'm sure you've considered it before, is the reason it's not included because its costly and winmore?

Triton on Need some help cutting some …

Here are some cuts:

Those are the 11 I'd personally cut, I'm a bit torn on Dregs of Sorrow because I think it's good removal in Belbe. Maybe Bolas's Citadel is another good option.

Hope this helps!

I have replaced Ring of Three Wishes with Rune-Scarred Demon, which unfortunately did increase the average converted mana cost of this deck from 4.47 to 4.50, but I believe that the demon is a better choice than is the ring; I had contemplated putting Diabolic Revelation in the deck, but the demon better fits the theme of "clash of the titans" that is the deck's very name.

I have replaced Ring of Three Wishes with Diabolic Revelation, since the latter card is generally superior to the former.
