Hey Spinq1974, thanks for your opinions. I was in fact planning to add either Stitched Drake or even Delver of Secrets  Flip (24 cards of the deck are instants/sorceries, which means 1/3 and soon 1/2 possibilities to turn it), but i really don't know what to remove, and I don't think I can remove Gurmag Angler, because i'm almost always able to cast it without removing creatures or reusable cards from the graveyard! Regarding Frankenstein's Monster, i really like the idea, but it is a rare card and I want this deck to remain pauper, so...Anyway, thanks a lot, and if you figure out what I should remove, let me know it!

Hi animeking1999,

Modern is often described as a turn four format, this means your deck needs to be in a position to win on turn four. Card choices are based on efficiency and consistency, there is a reason decks run 4x of cards, it is to improve the chance of drawing the card you need. Often you don't want to run just a 4x but you want a card with the same or similar effect meaning 8x so for example running 4x Ghoulcaller's Chant and 4x Cemetery Recruitment might make sense in your zombie based deck, but a card like Dutiful Return is just too expensive.

Diregraf Captain is a good lord type creature and if you want flying zombies Scrapskin Drake, Siren of the Silent Song or Stitched Drake would be better choices. I'd also suggest Gravecrawler, even if you are working to a budget, it is worth it.

You need to strip your deck back to a core, decide what it is you want to play and run 4x of those cards and 4x of the cards which support or protect that plan. You also need to balance your mana base better (27 is too much), land cards are worth the investment because they can be used in a variety of decks, so 4x Sunken Hollow probably wouldn't go wrong...

You'll have a real problem with decks that feature fliers. Your Stitched Drake is a good idea. But what goes? The Gurmag Angler is going to cost you several creatures/cards (totally negating the idea of recursion). Maybe add some Geists from Innistrad block? Their Undying ability fits nicely with your overall theme. And I know it's only tangential, but if you have access to it, put in Frankenstein's Monster. It's in the deck's name!

I have thought about Eternal Scourge before the problem with it is it is hard to play a lot cards that need to be exiled from the graveyard. I found that Misthollow Griffin works better since it cost 4 and both Stitched Drake and Skaab Ruinator cost 3, letting you curve out with them.

If your interested in Eternal Scourge I was thinking of a deck that uses Selective Memory to exile Misthollow Griffin and Eternal Scourge, almost letting you draw 8 cards, but I found the deck was too inconsistent. If you are interested in Eternal Scourge it would work in a deck like that.

Thanks for the suggestion Zehk :), but I don't think Eternal Scourge works to well in this deck.

Afraid this deck won't work that well in reality, there are much better choices even on a budget.

  1. Deviod means that Eldrazi Skyspawner and Mist Intruder aren't blue, they are colourless.

  2. Skywatcher Adept will never be relevant and costs too much to level up, a better option is Cloudfin Raptor which grows just because you play other creatures.

  3. Faerie Miscreant is a functionally better Zephyr Sprite thanks to the occasional draw.

  4. Swap Mist Intruder to be Seacoast Drake, it has an extra 1 toughness and is blue.

  5. Eldrazi Skyspawner and Azure Drake should be Illusory Angel, Warden of Evos Isle, Stitched Drake or even Riptide Chimera as they are all more efficient.

  6. If you use Riptide Chimera then Reality Acid becomes hard removal for anything rather than Encrust if not then Void Snare or Vapor Snag are more efficient.

In short, while I like the idea of an all flying blue deck, your card choices just weren't optimal, even on a budget.

I can't help but notice, you aren't running any zombies that boost zombies... Cards like Diregraf Captain or Cemetery Reaper are reasonably budget friendly as examples. I'd also suggest you run 4x Duress and 4x Soul Manipulation, the latter counters a spell and pulls back a zombie. Lastly you have 1 card which give evasion Graf Harvest but no naturally evasive zombies, since you are running you have access to Stitched Drake a 3/4 so it passes the bolt test and it costs 3... Obviously you could use Skaab Ruinator or Geralf's Masterpiece but the Drake isn't a bad budget choice and needs less effort to make it work in the deck.

One thing to consider is that tokens do not go to the graveyard, so creatures like Stitched Drake aren't doing too much for you here. You would have to exile something important, like a Lord, in order to get it onto the field and that won't do you any good.

If you're going to have something like Zombie Infestation, you're going to want to pair it with a spell like From Under the Floorboards so you get the most out of each card. Sure you can discard a Zombie and bring it back later, but that's a lot of effort and mana that you really can't afford as you're trying to get as many creatures on the board as quickly as possible.

I would drop Carrion Feeder. Sure you can sac Zombies to buff it but considering how many Lords you'll have the tokens will be more powerful than what Feeder would be. You're losing out by sacrificing the tokens. I would also drop Army of the Damned, at its CMC makes it difficult to cast and even then you'll have multiple means of generating Zombies. If you up your instant/sorcery total, something like Rise from the Tides is a better option.

Finally, I would drop Dark Ritual. Sure, you can use the mana to get a higher-CMC creature or spell out early, but that spot would be better suited toward something like Compelling Deterrence, which is incredibly good control and a perfect fit for a deck like this. You'll want early-game control, more than just Murder, to protect yourself for the first few turns until you can create a sufficient board presence.

Looks pretty god, just a few tweaks. I see this being more of an aggressive deck that wants to go Gravecrawler into relentless dead into zombie lord. As a result some of the more mana intensive cards like rooftop storm sidisi and dark salvation get a bit worse.

Things not in the deck that I think you need/need more of:

I think this deck really wants at minimum 3 copies of Aether Vial. Card's great. Can catch people off guard when you flash in a lord at instant speed and since it doesnt count as casting, your opponents can't counter anything you put in with it (They can respond to you activating the vial but that's before they know what you are putting in or if you're just tapping the vial to bait something out)

More interaction: i'd maindeck a third Fatal Push

I don't think you'll need to be worried about flyers but here are a few flying zombies if you did want to throw 1 or 2 in: Skaab Ruinator, Stitched Drake, Stitchwing Skaab, Crow of Dark Tidings, Geralf's Masterpiece. As i said i wouldnt include more than 1 or 2 copies though

What I think you can cut

2x Rooftop Storm: I think that this is way too slow for way you want to do and with no mana ramp it could be stranded in your hand for awhile.

1x sidisi: you want to be fast and 5 mana is a bit slower than i would want

1x island your deck wants to keep a lowish curve and going down to 21 lands is fine if your curve ends at 4 or so

1x Dark Salvation: I havent played with this card at all admittedly but it seems pretty inefiecint. Unless you have a lot of zobies already or its super late game fatal push seems better
