Dromar's Charm Discussion

SynergyBuild on Sneaky artifacts

To make this deck levels better, Fabricate and Thoughtcast for card advantage, Path to Exile or Fatal Push for removal, Marsh Flats, Flooded Strand, and Polluted Delta for a bit of land advantage, and Watery Grave, Hallowed Fountain, and Godless Shrine for a serious land base.

Switch Paradise Plume for the signets:

For planeswalkers:

The best counterspell for this deck is Stoic Rebuttal, and another fun choice is Render Silent, or Dromar's Charm.

With charms come Esper Charm, the best of the best, and if you need mana, Silver Myr, Gold Myr, Leaden Myr, or Palladium Myr are all great choices in artifacts.

Under Tribal for artifacts you have:

Other than that, maybe Academy Ruins?

I am a bit burnt out now, let me know if I helped out!

Nicely done with the trades! But yeah man, delay is great. At it's best you've "suspended" a hard counter that was trying to respond to something of yours. So once that final time counter removes on their upkeep, it's forced to cast and fizzle.

At its "worst" you've timewalked their general, or menacing creature for a few turns. The downside here is they gain haste.

Other than that, Countersquall isn't necessarily budget, but it's fairly effective in storm decks. The added life drain is cute. Dromar's Charm is VERY resource restrictive. But they're all within the colours of Breya. Force Spike is White Mana Tithe. Absorb is another hard counter that is very resource dependent - less than Dromar, and there's the cute life gain that's usually inconsequential. Memory Lapse is another timewalk that stalls your opponent. And if you're okay with 4 mana counters, Rewind is technically free.

Looks good! The first EDH deck I made was Zur, and he's a lot of fun.

I feel like you're a little short on countering. Dromar's Charm has a little versatility and is easy to get, and Put Away can reset an enchantment in your graveyard. Forbid is excellent with Zur, since you don't really need to play any cards other than counterspells once he's attacking.

I'd also try to find room for Seal of Doom, since it's just about the only tutorable way to put a creature in the graveyard, if your opponent plays a juicy target for Animate Dead. Nevermore has pretty obvious applications in EDH, but you might conisder it a little rude. One powerful piece of tech most people won't recognize is Merieke Ri Berit. On her own, she's a three-mana Control Magic that has to wait a turn - which can still be decent. With Zur, though, you can tutor for Pemmin's Aura, repeatedly untapping her to destroy all of your opponent's creatures and keep the best for yourself. It's a good time, let me tell ya.

Okay so this deck list is going 1000 different ways at once which from my perspective is fairly difficult to manage within esper. Basically the three major paths you can go down are the artifact decks such as Sen Triplets and Sharuum the Hegemon, Enchantment decks such as Zur the Enchanter and finally life gain decks based around Oloro, Ageless Ascetic. While other esper decks exist I wouldn't suggest going super obscure with your first EDH deck. Since you've chosen Oloro, Ageless Ascetic as your commander and based on your description of the deck I'm going to assume you are just wanting to go the life gain route but always remember you have the option of going chair tribal. If you do choose to go the life gain route, I would suggest cutting cards that don't necessarily benefit your goals. A prime example of this is Library of Leng you really don't have enough card draw to warrant running 4 no maximum hand size cards, unless you are running carddraw.deck you are typically fine with just a Reliquary Tower and a Thought Vessel. Another example is that you don't need 8 wrath effects, I'd recommend running around 4.Since a few other people preferred I do it this way, here is basically a laundry list of everything I'd recommend taking out. :Acquire Bident of Thassa Chalice of Life  Flip Elixir of Immortality Etherwrought Page Greater Auramancy Righteous Aura Spinal Embrace Sun Droplet Zur's Weirding Syphon Mind Underworld Connections Teferi's Care Web of InertiaLibrary of Leng Venser's Journal Children of Korlis Fleshbag Marauder Royal Assassin Dromar's Charm Repay in Kind Lethal Vapors Season of the Witch. Most of the removal you are running is fine just keep in mind things like Doom Blade have straight upgrades in EDH. Lastly Run Phyrexian Metamorph instead of Cryptoplasm it's a straight upgreade. In terms of looking for strong cards to put into your deck I'd suggest going to http://edhrec.com/ because it compiles all of the EDH decks on tappedout and tells you what most decks typically run. I'd also recommend running a copy of Aura Thief since you have Enchanted Evening. Finally I'll leave you with what I hear just about every time I go to my local shop to play EDH, Rhystic Study wins games.PS. Don't use Damnable Pact on an opponent... you aren't playing Nekusar, the Mindrazer

I just stumbled across your take on Oloro, Ageless Ascetic and immediately got reminded of my own first version. Just like you I tried to utilize the constant life gain triggers with creatures like Karlov of the Ghost Council, but ultimately took the more controlish route (see link further down for reference and some cards you might want to use).

If you want to stick on a creature-heavy build (and nothing is wrong with that) you should refrain from adding too many boardwipes, but Toxic Deluge is just a perfect fit for Oloro. As for my understanding the key in maximizing your commander's utility is accepting your life as a usable ressource.

You may not know it yet, but you definitely want to add Greed. Well, it is your decision after all, but you could give it a shot at least! :)

Some other cards that might very well fit your game plan could be:

Sun Droplet - adds more constant life gain triggers, even on your opponent's turns!

Lim-Dul's Vault - that card is just stupid good.

Replenish - Although quite expensive after all...

Dromar's Charm - That charm is quite versatile and I rarely got disappointed when drawing that card.

For reference (as mentioned), see Aloof Asceticism.

Finally: +1 for reminding of my own roots, keep going! :)

Best regards, Sersorias.

Alhammarret's Archive looks life it would fit perfectly here. Add in Psychosis Crawler and maybe Words of Worship and you can have a fun, if less infinite, version of the infinite life gain/loss combo (Oloro and Well of Lost Dreams will help). It would also be cheaper than Exquisite Blood, or compliment it.

If you're looking for more tutors, Transmute cards like Brainspoil are good and usually cheap. Diabolic Revelation can tutor for a whole combo, and if you have enough card draw to activate it then Archmage Ascension will turn every draw into a tutor.

If you play mostly multiplayer and not two player, Extort is a very strong mechanic. Pontiff of Blight and Blind Obedience are more good options for this, and both Exsanguinate and Debt to the Deathless can be good finishers - if you're okay with everyone hating you for using them!

Suture Priest can help against tokens and other creature-heavy decks, and Purity against burn and damage combos. If you have trouble getting your own infinite life loss combo going or if others are using lifegain, you could bring them much closer to death with Magister Sphinx, or Repay in Kind if you're prepared.

If you need to make cuts, there are some things that don't seem too necessary for your goals even if they're good cards. Signal Pest and Chasm Skulker in particular don't seem too useful here. Shadowmage Infiltrator and Sire of Stagnation could probably be cut, and Springleaf Drum switched for a mana rock in case of creature wipes. War Report has potential to gain you a lot of life but has no other impact so something with additional or modal effects might be better, like Overrule, Fall of the Gavel, Offering to Asha,Dromar's Charm, and plenty more.

Lastly, you have a few lands that work well with basics, but not many basics. Glacial Fortress and Isolated Chapel seem like they will often come out tapped at least in early game, so I wouldn't buy them if you don't have them already. If you do, they'll still be duals once they untap. Tainted Field seems more risky though, since it might not be able to produce colored mana unless you add more swamps. Your artifact lands function like basics or worse and only seem somewhat useful for Thopter Spy Network. If you cut any of these, you could add in more basics if you want to more in the early game. Otherwise Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds can find what you need and all of the Zendikar/Tarkir lifegain duals should be good for your deck.

Hope this helps! Let us know how the deck is playing out so far.
