Yisan, the Budget Bard (Commander / EDH MTG Deck)

This deck is meant to be used in casual play, where it uses toolbox creatures to keep our adversaries in check. We then win by out-valuing everyone, and hopefully by bringing a smile to the table - with all your music-themed cards.

With toolbox cards, such as Reclamation Sage, Spore Frog and Ulvenwald Tracker, we should be able to grab the cards we need with Yisan, the Wanderer Bard - to deal with whatever our opponents throw at us. As these toolbox cards, sometimes find their way to our hand, Yeva, Nature's Herald and Elvish Piper makes sure we can still drop them at the exact moment we need them.

Whenever we don't have anything immediate to deal with, we start fetching our value cards. These could be mana dorks like Elvish Mystic, Elvish Archdruid and Heritage Druid. Card draw engines like Beast Whisperer, Verduran Enchantress and Soul of the Harvest. To be sure, we can hold all these cards in hand, we have Reliquary Tower and Thought Vessel. Also, if we're forced anyway to start discarding cards - we can squeeze some extra value out of lands in our graveyard with Forgotten Harvest.

With a bunch of mana, we have some cards to help us make sure we can use Yisan, the Wanderer Bard as many times as we need. Artifacts like Staff of Domination, Umbral Mantle and Sword of the Paruns together with creatures like Quirion Ranger, Scryb Ranger and Seedborn Muse. To keep our favourite bard protected, we have the classics such as Lightning Greaves but also creatures we can fetch such as Guardian Augmenter, Kogla, the Titan Ape and Temur Sabertooth. The last two of these, also add the benefit of us cheaply being able to reset the verse counters on Yisan, the Wanderer Bard and reuse our toolbox cards.

Our wincon comes by capitalizing on our value engines. Cards like Omnath, Locus of Mana, Avenger of Zendikar + Azusa, Lost but Seeking and Kogla, the Titan Ape can bring some massive beating to our opponents. We also have thematic anthems, to boost all our many toolbox creatures to have them help as well. Cards such as Sylvan Anthem, Paragon of Eternal Wilds and Gaea's Anthem are both (kinda) music cards, and will pump up our green creatures.

If we don't win the game, we can hopefully win our opponent's heart with our music-themed cards, which are still somewhat useful: Elvish Lyrist, Elvish Piper, Verduran Enchantress, Gaea's Anthem, Song of Freyalise, Song of the Dryads, Sylvan Anthem, Sylvan Library, Titania's Song, Calming Verse, Chord of Calling and Worldly Tutor.
