Who am I?

Hi, i'm an edh player, i don't play competitive, i just wanna have fun with my friends and try to win. I love building decks and i'm always trying to find better and funnier solution to improve my decks. Usually i'm starting with a budget deck and after some games, if is it worth, i replace some budget cards with stronger ones.

Why Ghired?

I've always wanted a tokens deck for my collection, but using which commander? and what kind of tokens? Zombies, Cats, Soldiers, Elves, Saproling, Beast...?
There is (/was) a lot of token deck in my meta and i was looking for something new.
After Commander 2019 spoiler I found my way. Starting with Primal Genesis Precon deck, I developed my corrent deck.
I like the color composition {G} {R} {W} and Ghired provides a good 4/4 trample Rhino token when he ETB and populates everytimes he attacks.
In my first version of the deck, I tryed to create temporary copy of my opponents creatures and then populate it using Ghired's ability, to make it a normal permanent. Unfortunatly this isn't that easy to do in a real game. Anyway Ghired is a really good commander for a token deck, I think I'll keep working on it, untill I find a good balance.

Game plan/Card Selection

First of all, in this deck small token are NOT welcome, so you won't find any saproling, spirit, soldier, thopter, zombie, cat, goat, snake, bird, squirrel, elf, bat, bear or insect. Ghired pets are 4/4 Beast, 4/4 Rhino, 4/4 Zombie Warrior, 5/5 Elemental, 5/5 Wurm, 5/5 Dragon, X/X Dinosaur, Giant Adephage 7/7 and he is negotiating with God for 4/4 Angel too.
Excluding the classic token, a good result could be transform a "normal creature" into a token and then popolate it.
The game plan are really simple here:
Ramp in the early game, generate some token, populate it, protect Ghired and nuke your opponents.
Ghired is the main developer of our board and he have to attack every turn for doing that. You have to find a way to make it survive during attack and avoid removal. I think this is the most important thing and could be the main problem.
Let's jump into a deeper description of the deck!

Commander Protection

This is not an easy job, but if you manage it in a proper way, you get a good chance of winning the game.
Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves and Shalai, Voice of Plenty protect Ghired form spot removal.
Dauntless Escort, Boros Charm, Gift of Immortality, Unbreakable Formation and Rootborn Defenses also protect him from board wipes
Iroas, God of Victory, Reconnaissance and Maze of Ith let Ghired attack without problems.

Token Generator

Creatures that create tokens are self explanatory, but another interesting thing are temporary tokens.
Blade of Selves, Flamerush Rider, Flameshadow Conjuring, Mimic Vat generate tokens that you have to exile or sacrifice at the end of turn, BUT if you populate that token, you'll create a permanent token. That's a really interesting interaction and probably the main reason why I choose Ghired for my token deck.
Recently added Delina, Wild Mage and she looks pretty good.

Populate

This is how the board grow and become huge. Anointed Procession and Parallel Lives double the number of token created.
cards like Rootborn Defenses or Sundering Growth are utility spells with Populate incorporated.
Ghired, Conclave Exile, Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, Selesnya Eulogist are repeatable populate.

Ramp

In addition to the classic ramp spell I run Harvest Season(works very well in this deck).

Board Wipes/Removal

I don't run a lot of wrath spell, just something really synergic with the deck: Hour of Reckoning and Phyrexian Rebirth.
Same story for the removal, just some classic or synergic spells, special mention for Angel of Sanctions that can be embalmed and then copied multiple times.

Draw

I have multiple type of draw spell in the deck, with ETB trigger, equal to biggest creature power, equal to number of creatures controlled. They all work fine but this deck is always in need of draw, that why I'm going to add another one. Garruk's Uprising.
Another special mention here for Return of the Wildspeaker since he can also act as a finisher.

Utility cards

Marisi, Breaker of the Coil is amazing, goading all opponents creatures open the doors for a safe attack for Ghired. Deny the possibility of casting spell during combat for our opponents is also really good.
Eternal Witness does her job, expecially if i can copy with Mimic Vat for example.

Weakness

Multiple board wipes could be devastating for this deck and we can say the same thing if there is too much hate for Ghired. The deck also lose a lot of power if Ghired can't populate constantly, for example when every opponent have a big blocker.
Another weakness for this deck are flyer. I don't have a lot of tokens with flying, I'm still arguing with God for those Angel token, maybe Court of Grace could be a good solution but is quite slow anyway.

Mulligan

We have {G} here, so the best thing to do in the early game is ramping. Ghired can be sustained by himself, you just have to cast him and attack, so everything else come in a second place. Probably some kind of draw effect or commander protection is a good keep.

Wincon

Generate a big board and nuke is the only way to win. There is Second Harvest to make it bigger instantly and I run some cards to add extra damage:
Aurelia, the Warleader, Beastmaster Ascension, Overwhelming Stampede, Return of the Wildspeaker
Anyway even without these cards, this deck will deal a lot of damage every turn.
