Swapped out Dreamshaper Shaman and Staff of Domination for Firbolg Flutist and Flayer of the Hatebound. Flayer is a backup Stalking Vengeance with the ability to have just as stupid turns, making it much better than the mana-intensive Staff of Domination. Dreamshaper Shaman also requires an investment of mana every turn, so its spot is now taken up by Firbolg Flutist as a better target for Orthion's ability.

v2.10

Major Upgrade:

Added the Rhystic Study/Phyrexian Arena/Sylvan Library and Gilded Drake of colorless. I went ahead of WOTC and printed my own Emrakul and oh boy, was it fun! I guess those squirrels switch sides just as quick as they populate.

Cutting Endbringer and Oblivion Sower has always been at the back of my mind. I love them so much but they're very situational it hurts. More often than not, I'd choose to keep those 6 mana for more impactful interactions or dropping must-answered threats. Plus, I have Zhulodok.

Updates

N33KO_MODE, 1 year ago

Put in Abeyance to help with interrupts ; Battle Angels, Wedding Ring, and Bennie Bracks to help with card draw. Took out Mana tithe, Zombie Sub (may go back in), and I am debating on bringing in Ancient Copper Dragon. Also took out two tutors to allow for more casual play and will keep them in my sideboard

Combo Pieces

Firstblood, 1 year ago

Infinite combo, I just need to include Clock of Omens into the deck Cauldron Familiar + Witch's Oven + Clock of Omens + Peregrin Took

First Update

Citridon, 1 year ago

I picked up a few random cards after adjusting the deck from the precon with whatever in my collection worked to allow it to have the companion.

-1 Unexpected Windfall, +1 Stern Lesson - A little more narrow than unexpected windfall, but with this deck we should always be able to use the narrow mana, and it being permanent mana and 1 cheaper to cast is a big upgrade if that proves true (and the minor upgrade of discarding after instead of before)

-1 Whirler Rogue, +1 Geology Enthusiast

-1 Terramorphic Expanse, +1 Hall of Tagsin - This makes my colors slightly shakier, but this land can produce artifacts and with Zirda it can become a repeatable 3-mana ramp spell

-1 Reflections of Kiki-Jiki, +1 Thran Spider - I forgot that Companion restrictions can't see the back, so Reflections isn't actually a legal card

-1 Expert-Level Safe., +1 Legion Extruder - Safe is a neat card, but it works less than ideal with the swap to Liberty Prime as the commander. If I get its value, I can't sac it to Liberty's ability. If I don't, it's a 2 mana self exile just to get an artifact. Legion extruder is instead either a shock I eat for power or a backup to Liberty Prime's effect on a shock. And it's rad.

-1 Raff, Weatherlight Stalwart, +1 Drafna, Founder of Lat-Nam

-1 Brotherhood Vertibird, +1 Peacewalker Colossus - Bigger by default, has neat synergy with other vehicles. Also: it is a giant robot.

-1 Mind Stone, +1 Aerial Surveyor - Slower ramp to be certain, but the deck has a LOT of ramp, to the point it may be a little over-full, so I'm happy to swap to a ramp spell that advances my board as well

An Update Long Overdue

BMX482, 1 year ago

I have replaced a good chunk of cards. It's been a good long while since I've had an update and boy is it needed. 22 Cards in total have been replaced to help the deck get more draw, removal, and overall synergy with cards that are powerful and awesome in their own right, but just poorely suited for the deck as a whole. And before anyone asks, I took out Gaea's Cradle because realistically I'm never going to purchase a $1k card. It's just not happening and I want this to be an actual deck I will physically build. I also know that Lumra, Bellow of the Woods isn't out yet and is set to be released in August 2024. But the moment it comes out, it's absolutely being added.

Removed:
Crucible of Worlds, Hall of Triumph, Wrap in Vigor, Gaea's Cradle, Mirrorpool, Myriad Landscape, Garruk, Primal Hunter, Praetor's Counsel, Nissa, Worldwaker, Evolving Wilds, Encroaching Wastes, Ghost Quarter, Drownyard Temple, Gilded Lotusfoil, Baloth Woodcrasher, Oran-Rief Hydra, Predator Ooze, Seedborn Muse, Worldspine Wurm, Engulfing Slagwurm, Protean Hulk, Spidersilk Armor

Added: Conduit of Worlds, Seer's Sundial, Scapeshift, Lotus Field, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth, Wrenn and Seven, Eternal Witness, Growing Rites of Itlimoc  Flip, Prismatic Vista, Fabled Passage, Boseiju, Who Endures, Blast Zone, Lignify, Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer, Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Lumra, Bellow of the Woods, Scute Swarm, Essence Warden, Worldly Tutor, Crashing Drawbridge, Silklash Spider

  • Add Insatiable Avarice, remove Ancient Craving. More tricky colour requirements but cheaper than Ancient Craving, with potential tutor upside, too. I like this card a lot.
  • Add Return the Favor, remove Deflecting Swat. Swat is certainly the stronger card but I wanted to move it to a different deck and I wanted to try out Return the Favor. Card seems fun.

===accordion ===panel: Changelog 24-04-2024

Out

In

Reasons for removal:

  • Evacuation feels bad to play in a (somewhat) token deck.
  • Filter Out hasn't really felt good at any point, and also removes my own artifacts and enchantments.
  • Rapid Hybridization isn't bad, but I wanna try a few other spot removal spells to see if I like them better in this deck.
  • Finale of Revelation only works if I have massive cost reduction from Vadrik, Astral Archmage, but he's going out, so this being replaced with another draw spell.
  • Reckless Impulse doesn't work very well in a deck that wants to be very deliberate about when it casts what, which feels necessary for a prowess deck.
  • I have some better cards to replace the Plains with.
  • Ovika, Engima Goliath is too expensive in short, and works better when playing expensive spells rather than tons of cheap ones.
  • Dreadhorde Arcanist has the potential of being good, but it hasn't felt good to play it.
  • Storm Skreelix, Surge of Victory, Taigam and Ojutai Master feel like they're too expensive with too little impact.
  • Vadrik, Astral Archmage is a trap for me. He gave me the feeling I could play high cost instants and sorceries with the promise he'll give me huge discounts. That's a deckbuilding trap I'd rather do without.
  • Being able to easily repeat View from Above was okay, but the impact felt mediocre in comparison to Haze of Rage, and I'd rather just go balls to the wall than to fly over my opponent with this deck.
  • Reasons for adding:

  • Aether Gale fits the board wipe slot, and I think it might be good enough to fix the issues the deck might run into.
  • Path to Exile, Reality Shift, Rip Apart and Swords to Plowshares are all good spot removal spells the deck, and the deck is lacking those.
  • Pull from Tomorrow is the new Big Draw Spell, and is a straight upgrade in being instant and having no incentive to cast it for X=10, making the decision to cast it a lot easier.
  • Renegade Tactics, Slip Through Space and Warlord's Fury are more cantrips the deck needs, and they are all related to combat, which I like for this deck specifically.
  • Battlefield Forge and Needle Spires hopefully add enough flexibility to the mana base + a land creature in case things go wrong but I need a beater.
  • Docent of Perfection and Empty the Warrens are more token creators, which the deck can definetly use.
  • Strongarm Monk is another blanket prowess effect, and it feels like the deck needs more of those too.

    Out

    In

    Reasons for removal:

  • The deck has a lot of cantrips and other low cost draw spells so I'm replacing some basics with some spells.
  • Replaced one Mountain and one Island for some better lands.
  • Chandra, Torch of Defiance and Invasion of Karsus don't really feel like they fit the deck.
  • The deck doesn't have enough reliable main meat to include a win-more piece like Arcane Bombardment.
  • Reasons for adding:

  • Adding Cyclonic Rift to have a second board wipe.
  • Silundi Vision works in the cantrip game plan.
  • I had a Lonely Sandbar and Steam Vents laying around and I think they work well in this deck.
  • Gelectrode, Kessig Flamebreather and Rockslide Sorcerer are more main meat.
  • Young Pyromancer works well with the deck's game plan, and gives me more defensive (or maybe offensive) options.
  • Storm-Kiln Artist fills the 10th Ramp slot, and allows the deck to keep casting more consistently.
  • Narset's Reversal is an interesting piece that allows me to turn 2 cards into 3 triggers, or just steal a useful effect from an opponent.

Deflecting Swat is a spell I barely use and is pretty much outside my price range anyway, so I'm trying Return the Favor in its place. Torment of Hailfire is a great finisher, but also boring, so I'm trying Gray Merchant of Asphodel instead. Kinda weird it wasn't included before. ===endpanel ===endaccordion

    Major Changes

    Swing4Lethal, 1 year ago

Hello again, back with another update. My last two events have been underwhelming and the meta has shifted far and away from what the deck was built to beat, and it is struggling. I have decided it is time for a major overhaul to match the changing meta. I won’t go into much detail on the actual event results but will rather detail specific card changes related to the results. I finished those events 2-1-1 and 2-2 with my losses coming from either Thoughtseize decks or Atraxa, Grand Unifier decks. Without further ado, here are the changes being made and why.

    NEW:

Three Steps AheadAbsorb has been underperforming lately and this new card from OTJ fills the three-mana value counter spell slot while also serving other functions at the same time. It is somewhat mana hungry so only one copy is being played currently. EDIT: This card proved itself time and time again. I have upped it to 3 copies.

Hallowed Moonlight – Best tech available against Atraxa, Grand Unifier decks and it replaces itself.

Sunfall – While Supreme Verdict is still a premium sweeper, Sunfall brings along a threat to replace itself and point the gun back at the opponent. In this new meta, two-for-one’s are all the rage and if you’re not gaining incremental value with each card, it’s not good enough.

Restless Anchorage - This manland flies and creates card advantage on attack. Its cheaper to activate than Restless Reef and has evasion over Shambling Vent.

    RETURNING:

Leyline of Sanctity – This has become a necessity due the rampant black decks running 8-10 targeted discard spells. Thoughtseize, Duress, and Go Blank are back breaking for control.

    SAYING FAREWELL:

Reckoner Bankbuster – I love this card, it has been great for me, and I have only lost one game ever that I have cast it in. However, this last two weeks have shown me it is too slow for the current meta. Not because I’ve lost when I cast it, but because I never really had time to cast it. It competes too hard within the two-mana value slot and must be played at sorcery speed. I’ve lost games with this card in hand, and I’ve lost it to discard spells.

Absorb – The life gain from this card has been nice, but its casting cost is rough and three-mana counters have fallen from grace with the addition of No More Lies. This card is also just worse that Three Steps Ahead, a new tech piece from OTJ that is making its way into the list.

Narset, Parter of Veils – A powerful card she is, but unfortunately, she has not really found much of a home in the sideboard plans for the deck. I rarely board her in and when I do and cast her, she’s been underwhelming.

Saw it Coming – Another card that was a tech against discard decks and was fine, but ultimately not much of an impact was made.

Behold the Multiverse – This was a tech card against discard decks. It did fine but is ultimately worse than Memory Deluge.

Sheoldred, the Apocalypse – I love this card, it is amazingly powerful, maybe one of the most format warping standard legal cards of all time, but it has not found a place within the game plan of the deck and the removal in the format is too good and too efficient for this card to be playable in a control sideboard.

Dream Trawler – Another great card that I love that has been a game winner numerous times for me when the format was dominated by combat decks. However, I find myself almost never boarding it in now and when I do it’s not the game-ender it used to be. This card has encountered the same shortcoming as Shelly in that removal has become too good for even its built-in defense mechanic to be useful. Sweepers and edicts galore mean that this card gets cleaned up too easily.

Shambling Vent - Has been a great card that I love but it is worse than Anchorage and it is time to upgrade to newer tech.

Restless Reef - This card is cool and I love the borderless art but it did not make the impact I was hoping for so it will be going away for a second copy of Anchorage.

The remaining changes are just shifts to and from the main deck to the sideboard and vice versa as well as changes in numbers. The mana base also saw some changes in numbers to adjust to the more Azorius centric gameplan to make casting our spells a lot easier and reducing the number of tapped lands to be able to cast our spells on time more consistently.

That about wraps it up for today, as always feedback is appreciated! Let me know if you have any card suggestions with reasons why they would be good in the deck. Thanks for reading.
