Deck Tune-Up

CptnHndsm, 2 years ago

Tuned up the deck to focus on blink and recursion engines. Get value from Artifacts entering and leaving the battlefield, looping powerful engines to take over the game!

All Good Things

TotallyNotAMimic, 2 years ago

I've officially retired this deck as I'll be focusing more on Pioneer. It will always have a place in my heart.

We're Rich!

TotallyNotAMimic, 2 years ago

I decided to drop mana rocks in favor of treasure tokens for alternate forms of mana sources. Revel in Riches is slightly better than Monologue Tax since it procs more, but that cmc is pretty high (I thought Martyr's Bond was bad). Though I figured having a second win con was good too. Smothering Tithe was getting added regardless. Also, I needed more card draw with the help of Esper Sentinel. May considering adding more card draw in the future.

I like shinies

voltoth, 2 years ago

Since I've been playing with this deck for a little bit now, and enjoying it so much, even if it isn't the most competitive deck out there, I have changed all cards to foils as I have begun the process of foiling the entirety of it. No cards changed in this update, just a couple of version changes and the switch to foil versions that I currently have on order.

Play Testing Results

Toxicnerve, 2 years ago

Well unfortunately for me, play testing did not go well. Out of 2 games I lost horribly 1v1. I added some lands because it ended up needing it, but I never even got my full combo even close to out. So I will be doing some soul-searching and getting this deck figured out. The main 2 goals are: - better synergy/getting combo out (maybe adding draw) - figuring out if I need to cut green and go red/black or if I just need to get some different cards Besides that, I am overall just trying to get the synergy working. Red was supposed to get me going faster and I did not utelize it well enough.

Long Overdue Upgrades

CannedCanOpener, 2 years ago

Removed Illusionist's Bracers, Noxious Revival, and Talisman of Dominance. The Bracers are a great card, but their mana investment often isn't worth the setback of having to cast and equip it while Kenrith is in play. Revival is always a good card... if you've got something worth getting back in your graveyard. Only once has it been actually useful, every other time it's been a dead card or brought back something inconsequential to get it out of my hand - the deck runs plenty of interaction so needing to recur a piece isn't very common, and Kenrith can reanimate any creatures easily. The Talisman is just a bit of excess that I felt could be trimmed, I don't have enough Black-costing cards to warrant its own mana rock and the deck already runs a ton of other forms of ramp (mana rocks, mana dorks, Treasure production, etc.).

Added Faerie Mastermind, Skrelv, Defector Mite, and Telepathy. The Mastermind is just a good card, two mana at flash speed to start getting value off of your opponents' value. It also could serve as a way to draw your own answers, or just as a flying body that can be beefed up by Kenrith. Skrelv is just a funny little guy, drops easily for one mana and paying two life and tapping him to protect such an invaluable asset as Kenrith is too good to pass up. Telepathy is a single blue mana for an insane amount of knowledge about the game state, and could potentially direct focus away from you if an opponent has a particularly frightening hand.

Third Update <font color="green"><strong>FIXED</st

Gympztah, 2 years ago

So, I still haven't fixed Guardian Idol, but I might as well add a new list of what cards to get next. I need way more ways to trigger the commander. Many games it barely does anything. And more ramp! Just killing the commander one time makes it an issue.

  • FIXED Lifecrafter's Bestiary -> Witch's Oven. I think this one could be really good. it generates tokens which I can sacrifice to get more triggers. And lifegain is never wrong, even if I think they will probably be destroyed or sacrificed by other means. Replace Lifecrafter's Bestiary. It's good, but not really on theme.
  • FIXED Moss Diamond -> Mind Stone. Better with a mana stone which can trigger the commander. Even if color is kind of an issue...
  • FIXED Vastwood Fortification  Flip -> Traveler's Amulet. Going lower with lands is risky, but lets try replacing one with Traveler's Amulet. It is color fixing, and can trigger the commander.
  • SKIPPED Death's Presence -> Root Out. Removal, which triggers the commander, and create another token which can trigger the commander. Replace Death's Presence. Its really powerful, but not on theme at all. I feel like these decks are lacking power. And I'm not sure I want to remove a good card such as this.
  • FIXED Ulvenwald Mysteries -> Wayfarer's Bauble. Ramp, and trigger the commander. And color fixing! Ulvenwald Mysteries is good, and on theme. But its basically a token deck, and it never triggers as many times as I'd like.
A good next set of cards! Add these, and we'll see where we end up. It is becoming troublesome to add new cards though. One huge issue is that I can never attack even when I do get huge golems. Ways to give them trample or evasion would be great. I did add Golem Artisan, so that's one good way at least. But I think we need more.

Also, I should add some tokens. I'm still lacking some.

  • FIXED Food Token
  • FIXED Pincher Token (I don't think there are any. See if I can make my own?)
  • FIXED Another Golem token. With +1/+1 counters its tough to keep track without many tokens.
  • FIXED 4/4 Golem
  • FIXED Another Goat Token
  • FIXED X/X Golem

First Update <font color="green"><strong>FIXED</st

Gympztah, 2 years ago

So, we have 48 cards. Now its time to tune the deck. So, more golems, more cards that put artifacts into graveyards. Then some removals as well I think. Let's go for 10 cards to add.

  • FIXED Fertilid -> Crack Open. Seems really good. Removal which can trigger my commander, and a treasure, which is ramp and more fuel for my commander triggers. Replace Fertilid. A good card, but doesn't fit the theme so much.
  • FIXED Shamanic Revelation -> Fae Offering. This one seems extremely good. A bit conditional, but not that hard to fulfill. It has the potential to become real crazy. Replace Shamanic Revelation. Its extremely good, but doesn't really fit the theme and doesn't work with my commander that much. I also think other green decks would benefit more from having it.
  • FIXED Forgotten Ancient -> Bucknard's Everfull Purse. Also seems really good. Because I get triggers from my opponents as well! People might not activate it. But if we are building a game-night kind of style on the decks, fun cards are the most important, and this one is fun! Replace Forgotten Ancient.
  • FIXED Renata, Called to the Hunt -> Prizefight. Basic fight spell, but it creates a treasure, so on theme. I also lack creature removals entirely. Replace Renata, Called to the Hunt.
  • FIXED Tamiyo's Journal -> Cradle Clearcutter. This is actually a really good golem! I can be a huge creature, but it can also be an early mana dork that's really powerful in the deck. Replace Tamiyo's Journal since I don't want tutors in these decks.
  • FIXED Game-Trail Changeling -> Vital Splicer. Another one of the splicers. Creates a golem, but can also protect them, which is more important here. But its on theme, lets go with it! Replace Game-Trail Changeling. It is a golem, but not very impressive.
  • FIXED Littjara Glade-Warden -> Geode Golem. A golem that seems like a fun card. It can also be really good since my commander is so expensive. Replacem another changeling. I'm not sure about it since changelings are really good for these decks. But they also need to do something.
  • FIXED Rishkar, Peema Renegade -> Vivid Grove I have too few lands, and I plan to use one of the vivid lands in each of the first cycle of decks. Replace Rishkar, Peema Renegade. Extremely good, but would be better in the elf-deck if I build it.
  • FIXED Expedition Mapfoil -> Forest. I still think we need one more land, so lets just add another forest. Replace Expedition Mapfoil, since there isn't much I can get with it anyways.
  • FIXED Harmonize -> Glissa Sunseeker. Not a golem, and I am a bit hesitant about it. But it can destroy an artifact each turn, which seems really good. Replace Harmonize. Its good, but I feel like I need to move my spells towards things that fit the theme better, since only half will actually use it.

Seems like a good start. Not very expensive either. I still need to buy some cards though. But this is a good start to get it playable.

Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate

Romer, 2 years ago

Making a significant change in strategy here to stop trying to mill my opponents and focus on filling my own graveyard. Too often the cards in my opponents' graveyards aren't worthy of reanimating and splitting this deck's focus between milling opponents to death and filling my own yard to reanimate deadly things with Mimeo has it doing a weaker job of both of those strategies. So let's swap things up to fill my own yard with great reanimation targets for Mimeo and my other reanimate spells. You'll notice a lot of spells that allow me to draw cards and then discard something, helping me fill my graveyard with big creatures to reanimate.

Added

Removed

  • Nature's Claim - For 1 more mana, swapping for Unravel the Aether that shuffles the offending artifact or enchantment away.
  • Mind Grind - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Keening Stone - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents. Also, this is a huuuge mana investment to cast and activate.
  • Maddening Cacophony - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Traumatize - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Fractured Sanity - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Mindcrank - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Into the Story - Removing things that depend on my opponents having cards in their graveyard.
  • Drown in Dreams - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Thassa, God of the Sea - Good card but I have to make room.
  • Counterspell - is sometimes tough to hold up. Free is better.
  • Disallow - Reducing mana value of counterspells.
  • Voidslime - Reducing mana value of counterspells.
  • Life's Finale - Reducing the mana value of board wipes.
  • Casualties of War - Reducing the mana value of board wipes.
  • Sultai Charm - Reducing the mana value of removal.
  • Ruin Crab - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Maelstrom Pulse - Eew, Sorcery-speed.
  • Shadow Kin - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Fauna Shaman - One of the cuts I'm more on the fence about. But I'm trying to go all-in on drawing and discarding to fill my graveyard, rather than tutoring up the specific card I want... but then it's stuck in my hand until something else lets me discard it.
  • Bruvac the Grandiloquent - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Guardian Project - Great card, but I'm going for more of a draw/discard approach to most of my card advantage. Plus, I'm casting fewer creatures but more impactful creatures with this build, so there are fewer triggers for Guardian Project.
  • Phenax, God of Deception - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Nemesis of Reason - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord - He's great! But I have to make room for fun new things.
  • Guiltfeeder - Removing things that depend on my opponents having cards in their graveyard.
  • Duskmantle Guildmage - Removing things that focus on milling my opponents.
  • Darkwater Catacombs - I don't love that I have to put mana into this to get mana out, so I'm swapping it for something that doesn't need that.
  • Island
  • 2x Swamp
  • 3x Forest

Took some advice from EquivocalVision in the Comments (even though I'm pretty sure it was a Copy Paste Comment, since I was already running Isshin in the main board) and added some ETB shenanigans. Also cut some of the more lackluster Angels to make room for more bombs on the Dragon and Demon side while also getting more ways to refill the hand at the same time

Tweaks due to play patterns

evkede, 2 years ago

Healer's Hawk, Inscription of Abundance, Forest and Temple of Plenty in for Intrepid Adversary, Chrome Courier, Baneslayer Angel, and Felidar Sovereign. The list wants to cast lots of cheap spells, gain life, and repeat. The importance of hitting every land drop is very high, and 5+ drops are not as appealing as they might be, given the play patterns of the list.

19MAY2023: Spike Feeder, Cleric Class and Staff of Domination in for Shabraz, the Skyshark  Flip, Regna, the Redeemer and Primal Command. Staff can go infinite with Accomplished Alchemist, which is hilarious given the deck's restriction. Spike Feeder can give me lifegain to draw cards sometimes, or trigger lifegain when needed off turn. It also synergizes with Lathiel, the Bounteous Dawn to get more and more lifegain and counters. Cleric Class I've tried before in the list, but didn't have much synergy at the time. It can gain infinite life with spike feeder, and otherwise power up my creatures, which might well be reasonable. It's also the only way the deck has currently to get a dead creature back.

26MAY2023: Glorious Sunrise and Camaraderie in for Scavenging Ooze and Priest of Ancient Lore.

28MAY2023: Branchloft Pathway  Flip in for a plains.

Consistency

Rennymoses, 2 years ago

Hey guys, so while the deck was performing okay, i needed it to be better and more consistent. to achieve that i have removed 4 mana bolas, architect jace, 5 mana jace, tezzeret, and ob nixilis. instead i have added the 2nd big ashiok, 4th opt, and 3 settle the wreckage. while many are saying to play board wipes instead, not only does settle destroy grave recurring creatures, but it also allows me to keep my mana open and assess the situation instead of tapping out in my turn and leaving the door open for the opp to play whatever they would like. in terms of side, there is a minor change as well, being the 2nd kalitas and kozilek have swapped places, as well as 1 baby ashiok and oath of kay dropped, adding veto as the replacement. will test at the next tournament and share results of the deck performance after the next few games. so far on this site and xmage, the draw is much more consistent and the "same" every time having less janky fun one of cards. as always, would love to hear thoughts and feedback! thanks for taking the time to check out the deck!
