Cabal Executioner

Creature — Human Cleric

Whenever Cabal Executioner deals combat damage to a player, that player sacrifices a creature.

Morph (3)(Black)(Black) (You may play this face down as a 2/2 creature for (3). Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.)

Cut. Now the Grace Period begins. Assuming what is stated to be true, these would be the final cuts still in the running:

Sultai Charm (I guess the Modes are alright?)

Diabolic Tutor (A second Mastermind's Acquisition ? Hmmm...)

Ghastly Conscription (Maybe this isn't as bad as I thought...)

Villainous Wealth (How was I able to ignore this?)

Cloudform (I guess this is like Gift of Doom ? But suckier?)

Obscuring AEther (Another Morph Mana Support that can even Manifest Itself. Dang...)

Secret Plans (Yeah, give the Morphs, Megamorphs, & Manifests +0/+1 & flip them Face-Up for Card Advantage? BAM!)

1x Wilderness Reclamation (I dunno, I still like Seedborn Muse …)

Zendikar Resurgent (Doubling the Mana Supply, but casting too many "Morphs"? Get a Words of Wind ready for Hell.)

Broodhatch Nantuko (I guess it's good when you have Ezuri, Claw of Progress giving you all those counters? Might be good this way; I don't want just one bug...)

Cabal Executioner (I, mean, we have effects that negate sacing enemy permanents now. Can't we have Destroy Target Creature"? Oh, wait, we have two in these colors, but "Destroy Target nonblack Creature" & Destroying one that's Power 3 of lower is lame. But how good is this guy?)

Dragon's Eye Savants (Morph's answer to Gitaxian Probe , but you pay no life to use it; just reveal a Blue Card.)

Eternal Witness (Wait, how the bloody hell is this lass here?!)

Qarsi Deceiver (A mana Dork for Morph Effects, but one said I should have enough anyway.)

Root Elemental (Playing a card for free is awesome; especially something REALLY good...)

Silent Specter (There are no Morph effects to forcibly make an opponent discard their whole hand. Might as well make due with a flier I guess...)

Temur War Shaman (Manifesting the Top Card? At least the Fight Mechanic is Optional...)

Thought Harvester (NANI?! An Eldrazi Mutilates my Upside Down Stuff?! I just hope I can mill everyone before I mill myself...)

Whisperwood Elemental (Manifesting at each of your End Steps is great. even Saccing them, even if you sac this guy just to have others die, at least we're getting more Manifestoes.)

Cloud Key (Sure, choosing Creatures would be prime here, but what about Enchantments? Artifacts? Instants? Sorceries? They're options as well.)

Cloudstone Curio (This is required to mill the crap of your opponents. But we've enough Draw Engines to the point where Words of Wind is mandatory; at least Thought Harvester doesn't care about card draw stuff though...)

1x Crystal Shard (Strictly WORSE than the Curio as it has a price, & only affects creatures.)

1x Dimir Signet (Is it worth adding in the Signets as well as the Talismans? I'll leave that to you all to decide...)

1x Golgari Signet (See Dimir Signet.)

1x Helm of Awakening (This is the only "Spells cost less to cast" card I could find, but it also benefits the opposition.)

Lightning Greaves (Maybe I should don these awesome greaves again. You agree?)

Scroll of Fate (What more do you want? A free Manifest, & you will always know it's a creature or not, WHY DID I CUT THIS?!)

1x Simic Signet (See Dimir Signet.)

Which deserve the final replacing's? I'm leaving this to you...

& I apologize for all this text; I just wanted to show what I do recommend, & otherwise.

list of possilbe clerics to consider:

Heliod, God of the Sun - okay, not a cleric, but makes cleric tokens

Alms Collector - good card draw engine in EDH - prevents players from drawing their deck in one go also

Auriok Champion - linear upgrade from Soul Warden - resists removal

Auriok Replica - good sac for anti-commander damage, fits cleric type, colorless to cast. not super amazing, but worth mentioning

Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim - not all that useful until you gain some life, then amazing removal. and 2/3 deathtouch for 2 isn't bad either

Battlefield Medic - damage prevention based on clerics. nothing to special, but tribal themed, so I mention it here.

Beloved Chaplain - evasion that's hard to top - can't be blocked by creatures, can't be removed by creatures.

Blind Zealot - sacs to destroy target creature when it hits a player, good for general

Cabal Archon - sac outlet? check. Cleric tribal? check. sadistic grin? double check.

Cabal Executioner - on par with blind zealot - lacks the evasion, but doesn't sac to activate. mixed bag, but not horrible

Children of Korlis - sacs to revert life total to start of turn? yes please

Custodi Lich - grants Monarch, and forces creature sac on play and when you regain it. seems good.

Custodi Soulcaller - requires a few players to be super amazing, but still worthwhile even if all you get back is Children of Korlis

Daru Spiritualist - not quite pro- red, but helps agaisnt spot removal for entire tribe. bonus if paired with Shaman en-Kor

Devout Chaplain - most clerics are humans, exile is good. enough said.

Eight-and-a-Half-Tails - good protection for your side of the field.

Entomber Exarch - cleric that can reanimate or force pitch from opponents. not gamebreaker, but solid card with options

Frontline Medic - clerics are indistructable as long as 3 swing? seems good

Giver of Runes - really should be vodka-aunt of runes, but w/e, still good

High Priest of Penance - great to chump with, better with aethreos, best when indistructable

Kor Sanctifiers - decent artifact / enchantment removal on a cleric body, not much else to say.

Leonin Arbiter - the staple of death & taxes and hate bears is, in fact, a cleric. seems useful.

Leonin Relic-Warder - fiend hunter for artifacts & enchantments, not much else to say.

Mikaeus, the Lunarch - cleric that slowly buffs your side

Order of Whiteclay - recusion cleric. not as useful once it gets vigilence, so fair warning.

Pious Evangel  Flip - sac outlet that transforms into a mini- blood artist, is cleric.

Pontiff of Blight - mass extort is disgusting. seven toughness is hard to remove.

Ravos, Soultender - recursion + steroids = win

Remorseful Cleric - mass graveyard remval + evasion is good

Shaman en-Kor - this guy is bonkers, and with any form of damage prevention makes your side nigh unkillable

Sin Collector - exiles instants & sorceries, solid card. never returns them either. probably is on a wanted list in some libraries for back charges

True Believer - if you don't want people to target you, ivory mask with legs is a cleric too

Tymna the Weaver - less useful in duels, but solid for mass card draw otherwise

Vile Deacon - cleric tribal lord for black, comparible to doubtless one

Weathered Wayfarer - land tax on legs. still a cleric

Whipgrass Entangler - ghostly prison based on clerics for mana, but single target per use

Whisper, Blood Liturgist - creature recusion that nukes for 6 with general out, or mass reanimation if opponen't don't take it.

Profane Prayers - not an X spell, but cleric tribal nuke seems kinda on-theme.

Your mana base would probably be more efficient if you replace some of the rocks with green sorcery ramp, which also thin the deck.

Sword of the Animist, Dowsing Dagger  Flip, Druids' Repository, and Nature's Will are other good ways to ramp. Bower Passage and Dense Canopy are good to bypass blockers if there are lots of fliers in your meta.

Coastal Piracy draws more cards. With all the cards you draw, Meishin, the Mind Cage can lock down the board while Assault Formation lets your creatures deal damage.

Larceny will stop your opponents from doing stuff. Blinding Angel could be useful to prevent retaliation. Quietus Spike is helpful as backup to Raving Dead. Cabal Executioner and Cephalid Constable can destroy your opponents' boards, especially with something to pump the Constable after no blockers are declared.

A good trick you could try is Mirror Entity to pump your forces after no blockers are declared. Gigantomancer is more mana-efficient if you only have a few creatures.

Not quite sure how effective your energy subtheme is, but Empyreal Voyager would benefit from getting pumped as well.

You could probably cut some of the mill cards like Paranoid Delusions, Mirko Vosk, and Startled Awake, unless you want to run some reanimation like Ink-Eyes, Servant of Oni.

I can see you are working on a bit of a budget so I will try to stick to budget suggestions, but I am going to make a few suggestions that are more expensive for you to shoot for later.

I think the deck is good for a first run. I understand that it isn't quite where you want it yet, and you have ideas of what you want to add; I suggest adding those to the Maybe Board or Acquire Board to keep others from suggesting cards you already have in mind.

Firstly, recursion is great, but right now I see no way for you to get your creatures into the yard aside from attacking/blocking. So I recommend the following list for making sure you always have a reanimation target:

Secondly, I think you need to trim most of the creatures in your deck that have more than 2 power so that you have more reanimation targets for Alesha. I suggest replacing them with cards that have good ETB effects such as:

Lastly, you will want some cards that benefit from all the death you will be causing. I suggest the cards below:

This is by no means an extensive list as I just spent a short time searching based on cards I already knew paired well. Most of these should be rather cheap additions and fairly easy to come by.

Hope this helps.

Hey there Permafrost, thank for the feedback! I greatly appreciate it. As for your suggestions, I think I'm okay on fixing. Krosan Verge is a good card, but I don't think it's exactly needed here; fixing is already being used via Chromatic Lantern, Birds of Paradise, Gilded Lotus and among others. As for Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons the snakes are nice, but the -1 counters are... well, lackluster. I would rather play Cabal Executioner and just straight up kill creatures rather than just have a less annoying threat. Sure, the snakes are nice but the heavy removal can take care of enemy creatures.
