Cast big dragons and hit your friends. Nowadays many people/cards/decks focus on cheating big creatures into play, however I think the cost reduction from The Ur-Dragon paired with a good amount of classical Ramp is strong enough to just cast the scary fliers. Exceptions to that are Sneak Attack and maybe Lurking Predators (I haven’t played it yet).

Since we are in 5 colors the mana base is purely focused on providing the colors fast and in wide varieties. I tweaked it a lot and am very happy with the current balance of Triomes, Duals and Shocklands. Another benefit of WUBRG is that we can pick the best of the best spells for Removal and Draw. For draw we prefer cards that have synergy with our Dragons and cheap spells like Night's Whisper to catch up early.

Other than Draw and Ramp the deck cares a lot about Haste enablers. These are very important because many of the Dragons I chose for the deck payback big rewards if you can attack with them such as Ancient Copper Dragon, Scourge of the Throne, Utvara Hellkite or Ancient Gold Dragon. Waiting a turn will often get them killed before they pay back the resources you put into them.

Some of the best cards in the deck are Dragon Tempest, Hellkite Courser and Tiamat. Dragon Tempest is a Haste Enabler for just 2 Mana AND it is Removal or even a win-con if paired with a good Token producer. Hellkite Courser Usually sets up a big splashy turn because of The Ur-Dragon‘s attack tigger. Tiamat can quickly win you the game. Usual choices are Hellkite Courser, Old Gnawbone, Scion of Draco, Terror of the Peaks or Scourge of Valkas, Scourge of the Trone, Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm or another Token producer depending on the board state, your hand, the mana available and which Dragons are still in the deck. If you have enough mana you cast Hellkite Courser in the same turn (and Scion of Draco which should just cost 1 mana at this point) put the commander on the table move to attackers and drop Old Gnawbone off of the attack trigger. From there you get lots of mana to expand your board state and hold up mana for interaction and protection.

I love this deck it’s mainly Gruul smash with cool dragons and 3 support colors.
