darkmus! Awesome to meet another Angel Tribal Member! Angels are my favorite tribe in magic! You are just the person I need to talk to! I just checked your build out, and it looks good! +1! I had not seen the new Sigarda, Font of Blessings yet, I'll have to track her down and get some copies. Kinda of a Realmwalker effect going on there, I like it! I was kinda surprised you are running Green and No Collected Company tho? I guess you have 9 Angels that are 4 cmc tho, so maybe not great for your build. I Run this deck as Selesnya CoCo Angels on Arena and have pretty good luck with it, but my Paper Deck I switched to Orzhov for better removal. My bro plays a dragon deck with Stormbreath Dragons and they are kinda hard to get around with all white angels. Thus the black removal spells in the sideboard. Plus my Horizon Canopys are in my Bogle Deck, so, yeah I picked up some Silent Clearings and here we are. That, and I feel like the Godless Shrine goes well with the flavour of the deck. I do have two Archangel of Thune she is one of my Favorite Angels for sure, and I did have them in the deck for a while, I kinda go back and forth with the Ratio, Two Archangel and two Lyra Dawnbringer or 3 lyra and 1 Archangel. IDK. Maybe I'll throw them back in there based on your advise. Shadowspear is there for when I run into a bogle deck or something else that has indestructible like Heliod, Sun-Crowned or whatever. I had the Esper Sentinels in the deck as well as my two copies of Giver of Runes but right now I am testing out having the Soul Wardens and Speaker of the Heavens instead. I tried the Aether Vials along with a playset of Serra Avengers but wasn't too happy with how it played out. I don't have the Cavern of Souls but those would probably be nice. I do like having the Soul Partitions tho, it's pretty decent removal in my opinion, and so is the Lay Down Arms but you have to keep your plains count up to make it consistent. Legions to Ashes I was using to help against my brother's Squirrel deck, but I've also been using Temporary Lockdown in my arena build with some pretty decent success. I actually just saved my own ass with it this morning against a merfolk deck for the W!
Do you play in Modern tournaments with your build? I never really see anyone playing angels outside of Historic on Arena.
Thanks for the advice, the upvote and for sharing your deck! Much Appreciated!

All Will Be One & Red Sun's Twilight.

WAAROM Ashnod's Transmogrant?!?!

I was able to play quite a few games this weekend against a friend of mine. He is still working on getting his deck right as well so I don't know how well this would fair against a competitive deck but it did very well for me this weekend. A few things to note though, and please feel free to offer any thoughts you have.

  1. The deck was very fast, which I loved. Problem is, within just a few turns of basically every game I played, I was out of cards in my hand. So, I will be focusing on adding a few more pieces that will allow me to draw extra cards to keep the pressure on my opponent. (I am currently waiting on Realmwalker to come in the mail. That is the only card I wasn't playing with, but having a few may help this a little bit.

  2. Mana was never my issue. So, because I have so many creatures that help create lands I have decided to get rid of Heritage Druid as I never really found is feasible to tap 3 creatures to gain 3 mana. In fact, I had so much mana from other sources I don't think I ever needed to do this.

  3. I need trample. I was able to get so many cards out so quickly that I was able to attack with many creatures, but I could see where having trample will be a must again competitive opponents. I am considering adding another 1-2 Ezuri, Renegade Leader to help with this. To add, I came across Khalni Hydra and although it won't give my other creatures trample it he trample itself and costs 1 less mana for each green creature I control. I should have no problem getting that out by turn 4.

To accomplish the above I am looking to... Remove: Nettle Sentinel Heritage Druid Marwyn, the Nurturer . I might switch out a few others, but these did not play very beneficial this weekend.

Add: Another 1-2 Collected Company, Khalni Hydra, another 1-2 Ezuri, Renegade Leader, and maybe Beast Whisperer for drawing cards.

Thoughts?

Kindred Summons, Kindred Dominance, Realmwalker, Masked Vandal all seem stupid good in this deck.

Heroic Intervention is excellent protection.

I'd also recommend some more ramp like Nature's Lore, Three Visits, Farseek, Skyshroud Claim and the likes.

Lastly, some more removal might be nice like Rampage of the Clans (which is also a hilarious combo with Crafty Cutpurse

Nature's Lore, Three Visits, Masked Vandal, Heroic Intervention, Boros Charm, Species Specialist, Kargan Intimidator, Dusk / Dawn, Dowsing Dagger  Flip, Kindred Discovery, Kindred Dominance, Kindred Summons, Bojuka Bog, Scavenger Grounds are all worth consideration

I'd take out: Sol Ring Most of your mana costs are colored. Explore replace with better ramp as suggested above. Derevi, Empyrial Tactician not sure what this does here. Thassa's Oracle you're not looking to mill yourself out. Brainstorm only good if you can shuffle your library regularly such as with fetch lands. Demonic Consultation you're not looking for specific combo pieces Spell Pierce. You want to be spending your mana early, not keeping this up. Same with Mana Drain. Rally the Ranks. If you're gonna do this kind of effect, use something nicer like Realmwalker Coastal Piracy. Doesn't seem as good here as Kindred Discovery

Also think you can cut a couple lands given that your mana curve stops at 6. Or replace them with lands like Glasspool Mimic  Flip and Bala Ged Recovery  Flip

Finn_Fillory - I feel like for the modern format, this deck has a pretty high mana curve. If you are just playing some kitchen table magic with friends, that is fine but if you are trying to make a somewhat competitive deck, you need to give some 1-drops or at least run some ramp to accelerate the deck. The average cost of a card in the deck currently is 3.42 meaning you on average will not play a single card till turn 3-4. In modern, that is a long, long time to get a board presence and given the abundance of removal spells seen in modern, one you do get out that first card on turn 3-4, you will seen in annihilated immediately since you are running almost no protection other than Avabruck Caretaker  Flip.

Some recommendations would be adding Kessig Wolf Run and definitely some Stomping Grounds to even out the mana. I would also suggest you drop the land count down to 22-23. I do not think there is a reason to run that many lands unless you keep such a high mana curve, which I am hoping you will not. Maybe remove 6 lands and add 4xUtopia Sprawl and introduce a 1-drop werewolf?

Looks like you are going for a wolf token build so maybe think about adding in Parallel Lives as that could have huge implications.

I see you have Hermit of the Natterknolls  Flip for some extra draws. Werewolf Pack Leader fills a similar roll with a lower CMC with an easier trigger (you attacking). I believe there are other werewolfs that would fill similar roles but can not think of them off the top of my head, Realmwalker is also one of my person favorite for extending my hand to the top of my library in terms of casting creatures and that shapeshifter ability comes in handy for fitting into tribal builds!

Lastly, I feel like every werewolf deck needs a way to force it to be Night. Nothing worse that having an army of weak humans out there you can not get to transform unless you chose not to cast something or hope your opponent can not. Hedge that bet and slip in an instant that can force that!

Lots of food for thought, hopefully something I mentioned had some merit. Happy brewing :)

zigail - I feel like this concept might work better with something like goblins as Modern is usually so fast and heavy of removal spells. The average CMC of the deck is currently 3.55 meaning that you likely will not be playing a single creature until Turn 3, hence why I believe that something like goblins would work better for this concept as they are so cheap you could apply pressure earlier than with Treefolk.

On a different note, you might consider Realmwalker for the deck. Its ability to essentially extend your hand to the top of your library would be perfect for this concept.

I appreciate you taking the time to comment!

Yeah, I know those cards are popular but I specifically avoided them - having all elves actually goes a very long way in this deck and the combination of Sylvan Messenger, Realmwalker and Leaf-Crowned Visionary actually tends to get me much deeper into my draws much more reliably than Chord and CoCo. The way the deck plays the instants are rarely cast at instant speed anyway so I've found this to be a better way to go. Can't believe Sylvan Messenger hasn't caught on more. I get 4 or 5 elves from it as often as I get 2 or 3, something CoCo simply can't do for me.
