This is my Windgrace control deck. I messed with several landfall commanders such as Titania, Protector of Argoth and Omnath, Locus of Rage(Bless his angry lil’ heart, he done got cut eventually), before realizing that they all did bits of what I wanted, but ultimately Lord Windgrace made a nice home for all of the different aspects of those decks combined.

What was born was a control oriented landfall deck, seeking to control the state of the game with copious amounts of instant speed removal, interaction, and targeted (generally not mass) land destruction to deny an opponent vital colors or land based abilities..... or just lands in general if it comes to that.

One thematic choice to note is an exclusion of ANY artifacts, or artifact producing cards, due to Lord Windgrace’s strong hatred for them (read the lore, it’s fun). It means no fast mana, but we can still ramp really hard.

The deck runs a heavy low cost ramp package, and interactions that set you up to play a control orientated game until you assemble a value engine. Usually this is Lord Windgrace himself, in combination with The Gitrog Monster (extra spicy with Dakmor Salvage), Korvold, Fae-Cursed King, or Nissa, Vital Force’s emblem. Special shout out to Sylvan Library, coupled with Constant Mists or Glacial Chasm - who cares about paying life when you’re not taking damage? Gimme the cards!

Win cons come almost exclusively in land form via Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle triggers, or occasionally Titania, Protector of Argoth tokens. Cavalier of Flame can also be a convoluted win con of sorts, and has won me several games. More on these later.

Creating massive amounts of mana by abusing Squandered Resources and/or Lotus Cobra/Stone-Seeder Hierophant with things like windgrace’s -3 ability, Splendid Reclamation or Life from the Loam with extra land plays, can turn the tide of a game in a single turn. This can fuel an explosive winning turn with little warning. I’m not running any big X spells like Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate because often times they’re dead until I combo off and could win with lands instead. Lands also tend to be harder to interact with - More lands, less problems.

Cavalier of Flame is a serious all star in the deck; it allows me to filter my hand, strategically place lands in the yard, act as a haste enabler, a mana sink to buff tokens, or even a win con itself:

Slap down an Obliterate/Jokulhaups with it on the field? Boom. Tons of damage. Alternatively, sac all your lands to Squandered Resources/Reprocess, kill/sac Cavalier and deal a ton of damage. Recur it with Reanimate/Agadeem's Awakening  /Underworld Breach, and do it again. I can’t express how powerful and versatile I have found this card to be, and am surprised how underplayed it is in this kind of deck.

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and Dryad of the Ilysian Grove/Prismatic Omen can easily win a game with the amount of lands that leave and enter our battlefield each turn. Vesuva is here entirely to be another valakut.

Both Dryad, and Omen, are excellent color fixing as well, and make one of our best T1 plays, Orcish Lumberjack, even better. The lumberjack does serious work early AND late game.

The rest of the deck is comprised of ramp, lots of removal that hits as many tagrets as possible, recurral (we toss a fair amount of stuff in the graveyard), and the few protection spells we have in our colors.

Some utility lands are powerhouses themselves; Mirrorpool can copy Splendid Reclamation and with a sac outlet, such as Squandered Resources or Sylvan Safekeeper, and a Stone-Seeder Hierophant out, you can make infinite mana and landfall triggers. It also can make a copy of an important creature in response to targeted removal. It’s pretty neat in this deck.

Anyways, Let me know any suggestions or ideas you have!
