Magic in general used to care a lot about the upkeep, stuff like the Fallen Empires Storage Lands are incredibly awkward to play because you have to choose before you draw if you want mana now or later. By the time we got to Mercadia they were doing Storage very differently, Subterranean Hangar is a vastly better card in actual practice than Bottomless Vault, so this isn't a new concern I'd say, it just seems like it's impossible to actually do away with a step that is referenced on numerous cards. I like complex cards like Vault, but Hangar is not only a better card, it's much more fun to play with in practice, it's too easy to set yourself back by saving mana for an extra turn. 'Feels Bad' design space is something Magic has been avoiding progressively more over time (where you end up feeling bad due to design choices, not really play choices that are your fault, other than maybe playing questionable cards), many people consider this 'dumbing down', but I'm sure I still don't know what half of Stixhaven does so you can make a card complex without giving it complicated drawbacks. Still, I'd rather Magic made more cards like Phyrexian Negator, which have a high ceiling but require skill and planning, vs cards like Oko, Thief of Crowns. Both cards were a big deal in their day, but Oko is a challenge to play wrong, Negator is hilariously easy to screw up with.

Huh, just was looking, FE Storage lands are even clunkier than I thought, you originally chose during your untap, which is frankly absurd by modern standards. One of the instances where functional errata made a card strictly better (it now interacts fine with card draw during your upkeep), usually they do stuff like Relic Bind. Maybe I just need to get a R&D's Secret Lair, the Legends copy would then work as originally worded, which is still a bad card but at least qualifies as playable.

If you want to think outside the box, try Phyrexian Negator. Every time it's blocked, its controller is losing a bushel of hard-earned permanents. Of course, you can always help the process along by pointing a Consume Spirit or Essence Extraction at the Negator!

Other good options include Gutwrencher Oni, Grinning Demon, Scourge of Numai, Pitiless Horde, Steel Golem, Grid Monitor, Evil Eye of Orms-by-Gore, Evil Eye of Urborg, Archdemon of Greed  Flip, Abyssal Persecutor, Ebonblade Reaper, Thrashing Mudspawn, Wretched Anurid, Ebon Drake, Moroii, Rotting Regisaur, Flesh Reaver, Asmodeus the Archfiend and the truly deplorable Infernal Denizen.

Hello legendofa,

I propose a new hub to be added: Phyrexian. During Modern Horizons 2, 225 creatures were retconned into having the Phyrexian creature subtype to join Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider . Additionally, there were a smattering of Enchantments, Artifacts and etc that ether have the Phyrexian subtype or create creature tokens that do. Thanks to this retcon I now have a deck that has a Phyrexian tribal theme. For your reference, below is a full list of spells that were affected by WotC's Phyrexian errata.

Hmm, have you considered adding Phyrexian Negator for more fast aggro/sac engine and Victimize for fast, efficient recursion? I'm not sure if it would help against all matchups but it might be worth looking into?

DragonSliver9001: Suicide was an old deck archytype back around when extended was a format, basically using powerful but dangerous creatures such as Phyrexian Negator and Carnophage along with Dark Ritual for quick starts. It also featured Hatred and Unmask for kills out of nowhere through interaction.

It would certainly be a different deck in modern.

Planeswalker - Negator

+2: Search your library for a non-land card. ~ deals five damage to you.

0: ~ deals damage equal to its loyalty counters to target creature or player. ~ deals damage equal to half of its loyalty counters to you.

-2: Destroy target Legendary Creature or Planeswalker. Sacrifice two permanents.

-10: Exile all creatures. You create an X/X Artifact Horror Creature Token, with X equal to the number of creatures exiled in this way.

Negator of Phyrexia may be your commander.

The card I attempted to convert is Phyrexian Negator. I think its a little overpowered. I love it anyway.
