Maybeboard

This was my last mono-colored EDH deck - the infamous mono white EDH build. Card advantage and win conditions have been the biggest hurdles.

In addition to the base mono-white goodstuff, this deck features a whopping 20+ enchantments.

We're looking to take advantage of the enchantment parade with cards like Mesa Enchantress, Serra's Sanctum, Sphere of Safety, and Sigil of the Empty Throne. And the recently added Archon of Sun's Grace and Ajani's Chosen.

Additionally we are looking to pump out a bunch of synergistic tokens and finally win through good ol' fashioned combat.

Let me know suggestions!

Record: 5-16

October 2021 Deck Changes

In Borrowed Time - Another copy of banishing light. Removes anything troublesome and makes the rest of this deck hum with enchantment synergies.

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite - deck wants to win through combat - makes my little tokens way impactful. also just a fun white staple i've never played with

True Conviction - Similar to the above - I win with combat in this deck. Not to mention the enchantment synergy here

Teferi's Protection - Mono white staple, long been queued up to join the deck

Out Celestial Ancient - I wish this card was better - its a cool concept, a way worse Cathar's Crusade. If it was 3 cmc or at least a 5/5 or 6/6 body i would have to keep it

Divine Visitation - I actually think divine visitation isn’t a perfect fit. I only have 7 cards that it works with. And hits the board and does nothing essentially. And is 5 cmc

Verge Rangers - only useful a small % of the time if you think about it. 36% of the deck is lands, and how often does an opponent have more lands - not always. and doesn't have any synergy with the rest of the deck

Knight of the White Orchid - i've soured on this card and similar ones. in my playgroup anyway, I don't fall too far behind on lands for whatever reason. likely because I run a ton of draw so rarely miss land drops. Which means too often this is just an absolute dead draw. 2 mana ramp one - standard effect in green, great effect outside of green. 2 mana sometimes ramp one, often do nothing - doesn't do it for me.

Loyal Warhound - see above

November 2021 Deck Changes

In

Hallowed Haunting - This is a perfect fit for the deck. Ajani, the Archon, and Sigil of the Empty Throne are already what makes the deck hum - I will gladly take another copy that provides enchantment synergy itself. Memory Jar - Always an aspirational pet card of mine - decided to cash in some store credit for it. I've become increasingly dissatisfied with my card advantage options in mono white - so decided to secure a splashy one.

Out

Mazemind Tome - realizing this rate kind of sucks. Have to spend 6 mana to get two cards. Mind's Eye - as above, except have to spend 7. White desperately needs more card draw WOTC.

January 2022 Deck Changes

The biggest change this month - after 16 months of helming the deck - Mangara, the Diplomat (who replaced former commander Thalia, Heretic Cathar) - will be passing the torch to Heliod, God of the Sun. 1) As you'll see below - I finally went all in on the idea that this is a 'token' deck - in addition to the enchantment theme. Which makes him just so synergistic. 2) The last game I won with the deck - it was largely because of Heliod - he just took over the game. indestructible, gravy vigilance buff, beefy body, and a very relevant mana sync. having him in the command zone is pretty exciting.

It was a tough decision as Mangara has been amazing - I love drawing cards and white is so bad at it. He will indeed honorably remain in the 99 - and i'll always be happy to see him.

In

Kabira Takedown   - now that I am all in on tokens, I should average a lot of weenies on the field - making this spell pretty potent Anointed Procession - the clearest signal that tokens are the direction now. plus, its enchantment, so powers that side of the deck. and can take advantage of it from the command zone Consulate Crackdown - i think this card is good? if vandalblast for 5 mana is great, why not this card. plus the enchantment synergy Legion's Landing   - 1 cmc enchantment. makes a token. more likely to flip now that ill have more token creatures to attack. then ramps me. then makes more tokens. whats not to love Monastery Mentor - SO excited about this card. ~50% of my deck should trigger the token creation and the prowess triggers. powerful at 3 cmc.
Oblation - card has been on the bubble for a while. i am looking at it like a modal spell. 1) an over- costed Costly Plunder effect. now that i have all these tokens, i should be able to sac one to draw two cards. and my draw is so bad in white, ill take it. 2) a non ideal removal spell - that is super flexible though and hits anything Welcoming Vampire - ill take all the card draw i can get, and now that im making more creature tokens, including in the command zone, i should be able to trigger it enough to make it worth it Windbrisk Heights - just another source of card draw in a color that desperately needs it. plus more likely to trigger now that i have more creature tokens. Idol of Oblivion - i THINK this will work in the deck. I have ~14 ways to make tokens. plus my commander. worst comes to worst its 4 cmc, draw a card, make a soldier. but often could just be free. and with card draw still being an issue here - think this is better than the alternatives.

Out

Oblivion Ring - i think this effect is just bad. 3 cmc sorcery speed removal. regardless of the enchantment synergy Banishing Light - see above Borrowed Time - see above Endless Atlas - i recently soured on this card and pulled it from all my decks Opalescence - often this and starfield of nyx just sit in my hand and do nothing. and i cant afford a dead card in mono white with lack of draw. i think how i actually want to win is going wide with a million tokens. its too risky to turn my enchantments into creatures often. didnt make the move easily as it originally was a big portion of how the ddeck was supposed to win - but now i see a better path Starfield of Nyx - see above Sunblast Angel - i do think this card is underrated... but not really synergistic, high cmc, and the deck is getting pretty tight. i'll miss it Arcane Lighthouse - the EDH community seems to dislike this card. i am quite high on it and have it in a ton of decks. cant remember the last time it was relevant though tbh. plus, i'm running so many utility lands i worry about cutting another plains.

January 2022 Deck Changes Part II

In

Mentor of the Meek - i never love the idea of paying mana to draw each time.. but we're in white so let's see how many things trigger it. 15.5 cards it works with, including in my command zone. Think it’s worth it? It also triggers welcoming vampire. let's see how it plays Heliod's Intervention - think this card is sneaky powerful. Destroying x target enchantments/artifacts can swing a game. and in a pinch it can be fog-like Wedding Announcement   - this card does a lot of things i want in the deck - it is an enchantment, it can draw me cards, it makes tokens, it buffs tokens... it just does all the things poorly. Let's see how it performs

Out

Secret Rendezvous - think i have enough decent options now that I can avoid playing cards that give me opponent card advantage Oblation - i think the card is bad - never happy to see it Consulate Crackdown - the thing about this card is it is going to turn the table against me without enough reason i think. at least if i grasp of fate it is less mana and i pick the scariest thing. here i could exile 5 mana rocks and then get attacked by everyone - and take me whole turn doing it. i think heliods intervention which i just added is just better than this - i pick which goes away

February 2022 Deck Changes

In

Michiko's Reign of Truth   - 3rd version of this effect in the deck Spirited Companion - surprisingly wonderful here Eiganjo, Seat of the Empire - free value, pull a plains Crashing Drawbridge - i win through combat - need a haste enabler

Out

Wedding Announcement   - this card is... bad Sun Titan - cmc and lack of synergy does him in Monologue Tax - the card just isnt impactful enough

May 2022 Deck Changes

In Rumor Gatherer - good enough for the card advantage?

Out Mentor of the Meek - very comparable to rumor gatherer. the difference being RG is 3 cmc investment once and never again. mentor you have to invest 5 cmc before card advantage is achieved. RG needs double the number of creatures to hit to get there, but still only costs 3

May 2022 Deck Changes Part II

In Bennie Bracks, Zoologist - i make tokens, it draws me cards. there we go. Rabble Rousing - its like a second, worse, anointed procession. which i think is still good?

Out

Memory Jar - this is a pet card of mine. and quite an expensive one at that. but essentially i have to pay 5 mana, hope it survives around at the table. my opponents, if they are smart, can play around it and leave mana up. i crack it. i have to hope i draw good cards to play that turn. and my opponents are incentivized to use found answers on me. so sadly, it is cut. Rumor Gatherer - in playtesting, it is pretty rare i have two creatures etb the same turn. if i am doing that - i'm likely way ahead, so not sure how much this helps me'

September 2022 Deck Changes

In Retreat to Emeria - this one I'm still a maybe on. on the one hand, it is a strictly worse version of Felidar Retreat, and what if I don't have a land in hand and i have a million 4 drops in this deck. on the other hand, it is an enchantment that makes tokens, which is pretty much the point of the deck Gossamer Chains - serves a similar purpose to flickering ward, i can cast it again and again to trigger things, also protection for me Love Song of Night and Day - 3 cmc political draw two, then make a bird, then buff my dudes. all relevant, think its good enough? Historian's Boon - This goes alongside Ajani’s Chosen, Archon of Sun’s Grace, Hallowed Haunting, Monastery Mentor, and Sigil of the Empty Throne. A 6th version of the effect that is the point of the whole deck. 1 3 cmc, 1 5 cmc, and four 4 cmc versions. This also makes a token itself on ETB which is a nice perk.

Out Authority of the Consuls - this card is great. but i don't really like the feeling of playing stax. probably makes the deck less powerful by pulling it, especially with the low cmc and enchantment synergy, but it just makes the game less fun and slow Blind Obedience - "" Out of Time - yes this is an enchantment, and it costs 3, but its a bad board wipe. ive been cutting more and more board wipes from my decks, and this is a creature based deck anyway Mangara, the Diplomat - former commander, farewell sir. the deck is super clogged at the 4 cmc slot. i dont necessarily get the cards back - he can get killed. and not synergistic with the deck.

October 2022 Deck Changes

In Defiler of Faith - I think this is good? 5 cmc is a bit expensive. the vigilance is irrelevant in this deck. and its not an enchantment. but once it is out, it does two great things - discounts a bunch of my spells. and more importantly makes tokens off of every white permanent i cast. i'll try it out anyway

Out Luminarch Ascension - never imagined i would cut this card. 2 cmc. enchantment. makes tokens. the problem is... early, its quite amazing. except - it immediately turns you into archenemy. and mid - it just makes you a punching bag for people to keep you from gettin counters. and late - you dont have that many turns to play with to turn it on. so think it actually isn't as good as it looks.

November 2022 Deck Changes

Kabira Takedown   - too many tapped lands in my decks

November 2022 Deck Changes Part II

In Tocasia's Welcome - absolute slam dunk for the deck. an enchantment that draws cards when creature tokens enter? yes please! Secure the Wastes - most efficient instant speed token making spell in the game. have a lot of ways to take advantage of the dudes it makes Roadside Reliquary - putting in for a basic. comes in untapped, draws me cards late game if needed, i will have an artifact and enchantment. adding a land to each of my decks this month Lotus Field - works well with land tax and keeper of the accord. not a lot of downside

Out Retreat to Emeria - card is just not good enough for 4 cmc Windbrisk Heights - sick of too many of my lands coming in tapped Gossamer Chains - too situational Defiler of Faith - too much mana i think and too slow.

February 2023 Deck Changes

In Staff of the Storyteller - think this is pretty good actually. makes a flyer on ETB. that token triggers a bunch of stuff in the deck. and then this turns into repeatable card advantage.

Out On Thin Ice - the whole reason the lands are snow. but sorcery speed creature only removal likely just doesnt cut it.

May 2023 Deck Changes

In Chivalric Alliance - does everything this deck wants to do. low cmc. enchantment. draws cards. makes tokens

Out Love Song of Night and Day - upgrade in all ways above

September 2023 Deck Changes

In

Stroke of Midnight - new premier removal Excise the Imperfect - new best version of this in decks that can cast it The Irencrag - more 2 cmc ramp Reprieve - comparable to lapse of certainty which is a banger here Boon of the Spirit Realm - new win con like cathar's crusade

Out

Secure the Wastes - with deck getting tight, ill limit myself to permanent based token creation True Conviction - i never was over the moon on this card and Boon gives me another way to win Mirror Entity - bored of it and now have more ways to win Crashing Drawbridge - also a bit bored Dawn Charm - only the fog is worth it really so may as well have holy day? and i should have blockers here

January 2024 Deck Changes

In

March of the Canonized - think this is pretty great in this deck? i can cast it just for two if i have a bunch of stuff on the battlefield to trigger. and it scales with how much mana i have - generate a bunch of tokens. and this deck has a ton of devotion so likely very easy to get the token on my upkeep

Out

Court of Grace - likely this reads. 4 cmc enchantment. draw a card. make a 1/1 each turn on your upkeep. not so good.
