Survival Cache Discussion

Hi mrsilk

I really like your deck idea. The synergy with Wall of Shards and Tainted Remedy is fun. You were asking for suggestion on a bunch of differen subjects, first I will you my considerations regarding the colors of the decks, and then I have a bunch of cards choices you might consider.

I think you might a problem with you decks focus. Are you attempting to gain life yourself, or hurting the opponent by giving them life? You need to figure this out. Is your decks most important card either Tainted Remedy or Sanguine Bond/Chalice of Life. I do understand why you're playing both, as the other can be a backup. 1 of the other is still something I would run, but not more.Because you're running Martyr of Sands, you'll also need more white cards in your deck, than black. This is why most of my card choices are white.

Consider these cards to replace Ruinion:Blessed Alliance - A great removal, that currently seed play in modern.Congregate - Great against Token decks.Lone Missionary - Great blocker and also have synergy with some of the cards below.

Replacements for Aciennt Stirrings:Wall of Omens - Also a wall, and delays the game further while providing you with cards.Thraben Inspector - Same a Wall of omens, expect it requires an additional payment to draw the card.Survival Cache - Gains a small amount of life, but will only draw you cards if you have the most life. It can draw your two cards.

If you're deciding to playing green, even though you might be moving away from the color, consider running Kavu Predator. You might also consider being mainly white, with just a splash of black, green or blue. (For Trophy Mage)

This is some other cards, you might consider in your deck:A Wrath effect - Wrath of God/Day of Judgment/FumigateSun Titan - Recursion for all your creatures, as well as Chalice, Bridge and Tainted Remedy.Emeria, The Sky Ruin - Also recurs creatures, but only in the late game.Rhox Faithmender - Doubles your own life gain effects.Blind Obedience, instead of Authority of the Consuls. It allows you to drain life just from casting spells.Proclamation of Rebirth - Excellent in recurring Martyr of Sands.

Hey there! Cool deck you have here! I'm not fully sure whether you want a Kokusho-focused deck with a lifegain subtheme, or a lifegain-focused deck with a Kokusho subtheme, so I'll give you tips for both:

Kokusho-focused:

You generally want a lot of ways to find your Kokushos, as well as ways to return them from the graveyard, so I'll focus on those two.

If you're focused on more of a lifegain theme, I'd go with some of the following:

I should also say that I'm generally not a fan of cards that do nothing but gain you life. Chaplain's Blessing and Alms of the Vein can be good, sure, but they generally don't actually do anything.

Regardless of which version you're actually looking for, I would also recommend adding in some more removal, probably at least 5 copies total of the following: Doom Blade, Murder, Oust, Condemn, Dismember.

In any case, good luck with your deck!

Hey there! Cool deck you have here! I have some suggestions for you:

In any case, enjoy your deck!

thank you Funkydiscogod for your suggestions and here is what I think:

  1. I am going to keep Healing Hands instead of Survival Cache because of the easy flip of Lone Rider  Flip (also I really want to keep the card icon it looks really cool )

  2. i'm also going to keep Murder because I really need to be able to kill some creatures and not have them choose what I kill.

  3. Path of Bravery can definitely find a place in this deck. It could power up some weaker creatures and could solidify my place ahead however in an effort to keep my deck "ULTRA BUDGET" I am going to put it on the maybe board.

  4. Radiant Fountain could drift into the Scoured Barrens spot because it does not tap when it enters the battlefield and it gives you two life instead of one, it could also find a spot of its own, I will have to decide later.

Thank you for your valuable insight and may all of your opponents get only creatures.

Ooh...I love Ultra-Budget brews.

I've always thought Heroes Remembered would make a good 1-drop for a lifegain deck, but it seems to me that for your deck, it doesn't matter how much life you gain, only that you gained life. So, quantity over quality, shall we say.

Let me recommend Survival Cache as a replacement for Healing Hands.

I feel like Path of Bravery can fit in to your deck somewhere.

And even though Murder is the best targeted kill spell, there are some life-gaining kill spells that you might consider, like Tribute to Hunger, Consuming Vapors, Feast of Blood and Midnight Charm.

You might have enough generic costs in your deck to be able to support a playset of Radiant Fountain.

Anyway, I'm just brainstorming.

TheTindell179 Whoops sorry about that should've been more careful. Now an actual recommendation with the release of Iconic Masters Survival Cache will be downshifted to common. Might be worth considering?

What about Ivory Crane Netsuke, and maybe some Survival Cache to keep your hand full?

The_Mike, thank you for the advice on the card advantage! However, I'm not quite sure which of the three is the best, but I'm leaning towards Survival Cache...

That Mentor of the Meek and Bygone Bishop give a much greater number of cards over the course of the game, but are more fragile and more conditional. That the mentor gets completely shut off if I have more than one Honor of the Pure on the battlefield, and then I only have 19 creatures for the bishop...

If we add Smuggler's Copter into the list of potential card advantage tools, which do you think would be the strongest? Or should I just test with each of them on MTGO. I was planning on cutting the Elspeth, Knight-Errant and the Zealous Persecution for a 3x of the card advantage spell.

Finally, is Desert of the True too slow for this deck? The cycling would give a bit of flood prevention.
