Survival Cache Discussion

The_Mike, thank you for the advice on the card advantage! However, I'm not quite sure which of the three is the best, but I'm leaning towards Survival Cache...

That Mentor of the Meek and Bygone Bishop give a much greater number of cards over the course of the game, but are more fragile and more conditional. That the mentor gets completely shut off if I have more than one Honor of the Pure on the battlefield, and then I only have 19 creatures for the bishop...

If we add Smuggler's Copter into the list of potential card advantage tools, which do you think would be the strongest? Or should I just test with each of them on MTGO. I was planning on cutting the Elspeth, Knight-Errant and the Zealous Persecution for a 3x of the card advantage spell.

Finally, is Desert of the True too slow for this deck? The cycling would give a bit of flood prevention.

Survival Cache

If the cards at your maybeboard are the suggestions you've gotten thus far, it would be a high time to hear about this one. It's the only non-creature card in mono that lets you draw TWO cards. That's already +1. It also has the benefits of healing up and conditions being easier to meet due to the nature of your deck.

Mentor of the Meek. Bygone Bishop and the like.

The first being my favourite, these two draw cards hardest in mono when synergized with small weenies. they are slow and prone to spot removal, but if left alone Mentor will draw you all the cards you need for the rest of the game.

By the way, I found Survival Cache as well, throw in a couple of those to get some nice card draw!

You need the artifacts to ramp and keep up.

Remove:

Porcelain Legionnaire he doesn't do anything for you in this list

Chief Engineer: you aren't playing enough artifcats

Puresteel Paladin: again, not enough to utilize him

Stonehewer Giant: ditto

Trinket Mage: ditto

Steel Hellkite: you have better options in what I gave you

Wall of Denial: eh.

Skullclamp: I don't even know if this is legal, keep it if you add elspeth and other stuff that will allow you to utilize it

Cloudshift: kind of meh

ManaDrain: CAN YOU SRSLY AFFORD THIS--replace with Counterspell

Mana Leak: TERRIBLE IN EDH use Cryptic Command/Counterspell

Safe Passage: Maybe use Declaration in Stone or Cyclonic Rift I am drawing blanks on cards that would achieve the same but are a bit more diverse.

Path to Exile: Swords to Plowsharesm POE is not as good in edh

War Report: drop it--Swan Song

Gitaxian Probe: Brainstorm

Survival Cache: not as good

These are the one's staring me in the face

I've been playing with a mono-white deck with some similar themes. A cheaper, but more restricted version of Dazzling Reflection would be Awe Strike. Other cards worth considering: Cathedral Sanctifier, Well of Lost Dreams, Aetherflux Reservoir, Lone Rider  Flip, Chalice of Life  Flip, Survival Cache, Serra Ascendant, Wall of Reverence, Ajani's Pridemate, and Rhox Faithmender.

The fact which makes me unable to think about Eldrazi Conscription as an equipment is that, IF Eldrazi Conscription won't be countered, it still will be the primary target for your opponent. It's almost impossible to keep something that terrifying safe on board. Believe me. I play Kaalia of the Vast. Of course it is also different situation since my opponent knows that I will finally try to cast her, so he keeps all his counter spells and damn removals especially for this occasion, while your opponent doesn't even know you have something like THAT in your deck. YET it is also extremely easy to get rid of an aura card.

If You won't leave that extra mana for protection while casting Eldrazi Conscription, either way someone will destroy this aura itself with enchantment removal, or worse, will just simply get rid of the creature, before or after Eldrazi Conscription hits the board. Either way your aura gets buried too. That is why, for me this is spell for 10-11 CMC, which is just too much, even for what it does. But if You can afford it and You love it that much, this is still OP card.

When it comes for Oblation. Recently I've been playing with my quite good friend. During our games, he used oblation 3 times I guess. One time I got my winning card with this additional draw Oblation gave me, and the other time I re-draw the removed card (plus an extra one thanks to Oblation). So I will say it again. This card is useless to me. There are better option for removal Path to Exile, Council's Judgment, and for draw Survival Cache, Truce or Acrobatic Maneuver. Especially the last one if you want to blink your creatures.

Creatures with flying like Dust Elemental, Eiganjo Free-Riders, Stormfront Riders, Galepowder Mage are also good cards if you want to re use some ETB effects from Stoneforge Mystic, Armory Automaton, Knight of the White Orchid, Relic Seeker or Sun Titan. Although if You want to go this way, I would add some more creatures with ETB.

Does mana from Thran Turbine disappear after the upkeep ? If yes, than this card is not as good as I thought, but still might be useful.

I like scry lands. If I would play mono coloured deck, I would miss them. I really underestimated them before, therefore I recommend them now.

Scrying Sheets is a nice land for Your snow covered collection.

You're never casting Felidar Sovereign on a 20-land manabase. Heck, you're not casting Archangel of Thune either. Either add more lands or cut them. Sunbond and Survival Cache are also pretty easy cuts.

Hey man, looks like you're just starting with commander, let me tell you it's the best format there is.

So, to begin, 30 lands won't do with your Avg. CMC. and more so with the lack on ramp on those colors. I'd go with 36-38. There are some ramp in white though, Tithe, Gift of Estates, Land Tax, but old cards can get hard to find around. Besides, lands get on your hand instead of the battlefield.

You could try Burnished Hart, an inexpensive very useful creature to fix the colors. Myriad Landscape will find you 2 lands. Terramorphic Expanse and Evolving Wilds won't ramp, but they'll fix you colors and cost next to nothing. Mana rocks: It isn't by chance that Sol Ring is included on every pre-constructed commander deck. I like Fellwar Stone, most of the time it will get you the color you need. And while we're talking about colors, Command Tower is needed here as well.

Here are some stuff that you may cut to make room for those 6-8 lands:

Iron Star and Ivory Cup should be cut: 1 Life isn't nearly enough, less so in Commander. Also you have to pay for get that 1 life, just way too clunky, slow and expensive. Same with Survival Cache, 2 life isn't going to make much difference.

Akroan Crusader: You have 1 instant and 2 auras that could target him in order to trigger Heroic, so this creature would be a vanilla in practically every single game. Why would you target him instead of your commander or any other creature?

Blaze Commando: Similar problem as above, the tokens it can create are too situational. You need a better way to produce tokens.

Evangelize could work against some decks, maybe voltron is the best opponent to target. Still, cost is way too high for it to make it worthy in my opinion.

Stitcher's Graft: I really don't see the point on this one, maybe if vigilance were a theme in the deck, which is not the case.

Other stuff you should consider:

Wraths and removal!: Day of Judgment, Wrath of God, Fumigate, Blasphemous Act, Mizzium Mortars in case your opponents fill the field faster than you. For spot removal, there's Swords to Plowshares, Path to Exile, Condemn, Return to Dust

Battalion: If you like flavorful decks, this Boros mechanic that Tajic has can be complemented with other Boros creatures, like Frontline Medic to protect your creatures, Firemane Avenger as pseudoremoval and the more useful one Legion Loyalist.

Hope this helps.
