Survival Cache Discussion

ZackB on Playing with lives (ULTRA BUDGET)

thank you Funkydiscogod for your suggestions and here is what I think:

  1. I am going to keep Healing Hands instead of Survival Cache because of the easy flip of Lone Rider  Flip (also I really want to keep the card icon it looks really cool )

  2. i'm also going to keep Murder because I really need to be able to kill some creatures and not have them choose what I kill.

  3. Path of Bravery can definitely find a place in this deck. It could power up some weaker creatures and could solidify my place ahead however in an effort to keep my deck "ULTRA BUDGET" I am going to put it on the maybe board.

  4. Radiant Fountain could drift into the Scoured Barrens spot because it does not tap when it enters the battlefield and it gives you two life instead of one, it could also find a spot of its own, I will have to decide later.

Thank you for your valuable insight and may all of your opponents get only creatures.

Ooh...I love Ultra-Budget brews.

I've always thought Heroes Remembered would make a good 1-drop for a lifegain deck, but it seems to me that for your deck, it doesn't matter how much life you gain, only that you gained life. So, quantity over quality, shall we say.

Let me recommend Survival Cache as a replacement for Healing Hands.

I feel like Path of Bravery can fit in to your deck somewhere.

And even though Murder is the best targeted kill spell, there are some life-gaining kill spells that you might consider, like Tribute to Hunger, Consuming Vapors, Feast of Blood and Midnight Charm.

You might have enough generic costs in your deck to be able to support a playset of Radiant Fountain.

Anyway, I'm just brainstorming.

TheTindell179 Whoops sorry about that should've been more careful. Now an actual recommendation with the release of Iconic Masters Survival Cache will be downshifted to common. Might be worth considering?

What about Ivory Crane Netsuke, and maybe some Survival Cache to keep your hand full?

The_Mike, thank you for the advice on the card advantage! However, I'm not quite sure which of the three is the best, but I'm leaning towards Survival Cache...

That Mentor of the Meek and Bygone Bishop give a much greater number of cards over the course of the game, but are more fragile and more conditional. That the mentor gets completely shut off if I have more than one Honor of the Pure on the battlefield, and then I only have 19 creatures for the bishop...

If we add Smuggler's Copter into the list of potential card advantage tools, which do you think would be the strongest? Or should I just test with each of them on MTGO. I was planning on cutting the Elspeth, Knight-Errant and the Zealous Persecution for a 3x of the card advantage spell.

Finally, is Desert of the True too slow for this deck? The cycling would give a bit of flood prevention.

Survival Cache

If the cards at your maybeboard are the suggestions you've gotten thus far, it would be a high time to hear about this one. It's the only non-creature card in mono that lets you draw TWO cards. That's already +1. It also has the benefits of healing up and conditions being easier to meet due to the nature of your deck.

Mentor of the Meek. Bygone Bishop and the like.

The first being my favourite, these two draw cards hardest in mono when synergized with small weenies. they are slow and prone to spot removal, but if left alone Mentor will draw you all the cards you need for the rest of the game.

By the way, I found Survival Cache as well, throw in a couple of those to get some nice card draw!

You need the artifacts to ramp and keep up.

Remove:

Porcelain Legionnaire he doesn't do anything for you in this list

Chief Engineer: you aren't playing enough artifcats

Puresteel Paladin: again, not enough to utilize him

Stonehewer Giant: ditto

Trinket Mage: ditto

Steel Hellkite: you have better options in what I gave you

Wall of Denial: eh.

Skullclamp: I don't even know if this is legal, keep it if you add elspeth and other stuff that will allow you to utilize it

Cloudshift: kind of meh

ManaDrain: CAN YOU SRSLY AFFORD THIS--replace with Counterspell

Mana Leak: TERRIBLE IN EDH use Cryptic Command/Counterspell

Safe Passage: Maybe use Declaration in Stone or Cyclonic Rift I am drawing blanks on cards that would achieve the same but are a bit more diverse.

Path to Exile: Swords to Plowsharesm POE is not as good in edh

War Report: drop it--Swan Song

Gitaxian Probe: Brainstorm

Survival Cache: not as good

These are the one's staring me in the face
