Sideboard

Maybeboard

So this is my attempt to self-restrict my inner spike by limiting myself to cards featuring fantastic hats. My usual playgroup has a mixture of competitive, casual and newer players so this is my olive branch after crushing hopes and dreams with Tasigur or Yisan. That being said, "I yam what I yam" so help me make this the most competitive hat tribal deck possible.

The general strategy is to play a low (ish) curve aggro deck with as much recursion/value as possible to combat board wipes. There is a pretty extensive sub-theme of humans due to the fact that they are likely to wear a hat, go figure. Also some +1/+1 counter synergies. We also try to play as many card advantage engines as possible to keep up the steam. The rest of the deck is a mixture of go wide/go big with some nice little hate cards tucked in. The mana base was pretty much just thrown together with what I had available so that could use some tweaking. Just bear in mind I probably won't be putting out the money for fetches and original duals for this deck.

A note on the hats. There must be a hat somewhere in the art but I'm going off of a pretty loose definition of hats. Helmets, headpieces, hats...if you wear it on your head, it probably qualifies. I draw the line at hoods cause...well...you gotta draw the line somewhere. Props to my zombie friends Drakestown Forgotten who rep a pot and a guillotine as hats, pure style. I also have to give a shout out to Heron's Grace Champion. You may be a pretty terrible card but you wear a pretty fabulous hat.

So let me know what you think. Tell me what great cards with hats I should add or even suggest a different strategy. To me this seemed like the best way to build hats but I love to hear what the community can come up with. This is a very very casual deck so cards >10$ might not be added unless I own them already. I'm also pretty sold on the commander so I want to try to build this out as best I can before I'd consider changing up the commander. Other than that I want to try to make it as tuned as possible while still rocking some sweet hats! Thanks for your help.

*P.S. Added a list of honorable mentions in the sideboard. Cards that may not make the cut but deserve some recognition for being a fantastic hat.

Change Log

Out

Ebonblade Reaper - Fun to do once but pretty much a one trick pony. Thankfully I got to do this 1st game I played. Definitely satisfying. Maybe it'll go back in again to keep my opponents on their toes.

Devoted Crop-Mate - Kinda like a mini sun titan but I found the deck doesn't run enough targets.

Fairgrounds Trumpeter - Has some synergy with the +1/+1 counter theme but requires a lot of setting up and is pretty slow.

Custodi Soulcaller - Also another recursion engine but often I'm often only playing against 2 other opponents. Doesn't give me a lot of targets and I think we've got a lot of other better recursion in the deck already.

Herald of Anafenza - I played this in my first game but I found I never used the ability as I almost always had something better to do with my mana.

In

Garruk, caller of Beasts - Planeswalkers seem good with a lot of chump blockers to protect them and Garruk gives us more card draw, something this deck can't have enough of.

Crown of Doom - Perfectly on theme and pumps all our tokens and attackers.

Glare of Subdual - Helps to tap down blockers and problem creatures/artifacts with my creatures I don't want to swing with

Worldly Tutor - Stample tutor that gets almost our whole deck.

Mikaeus the Lunarch - Pumps the team and works well with the +1/+1 theme
