Just a fun Friday post. What are some of your favorite pet-cards? Not necessarily key pieces or staples, just cards that you at least want to include in whatever deck you’re working on. I’m going to toss a couple out, though I’ll probably remember more later (and I hope you all do too). Whipkeeper is weird, and heavily reliant on circumstances, but when you have it on hand and those circumstances arise it’s really fun! Walking Sponge is another similar critter. That’s red and blue, and now I think I’ll shoot for one of each color. I’ve touted my love for Xenic Poltergeist often enough that you’re probably tired of it, but I’m always happy to draw it. I don’t play a ton of green, but Dense Canopy is something that’s had a special flavor for me. I love the idea of stealing a little of the power from flying, which is a pretty significant strength for a basic evergreen ability. In white I’ll pick Confessor as it’s a neat effect with a solid flavor. Mechanically I’m not a big fan of what lifegain decks have become, because of the sort of game state that you can end up with in a casual format, but I’m not totally negative on them. For an artifact, as a bonus, I’ll say Armageddon Clock because it’s a fun, symmetrical, way to move the game ahead while still giving people an extra out to regulate it some. What are some of your favorite cards, even if they aren’t particularly high-end?

Exactly. Generally I'm focused on destroying power stones with Xenic Poltergeist or wiping out all the treasures with Titania's Song. I thought I was going to be a hero and turn that knowledge around for good, but I’ve failed. Your deck looks like a blast though!!

Deck did decently, though lost to a voltron style situation where the creature had protection from black, white, and red and I was basically stuck. Didn't have enough artifact removal, and didn't draw any tutors to grab something like Xenic Poltergeist to take out the equipment. Looking to add in a Tower of the Magistrate and Kor Haven to see if that can help out in that department. Looks like more testing is in order.

+1 because I love seeing Horobi. Cauldron of Souls is a powerhouse. Protects your board when Horobi is away and nukes when he's around. Beyond that, Retreat to Hagra and Tetzimoc are common pieces. I think Xenic Poltergeist is one of my favorite includes, simply because monoblack has such a hard time dealing with noncreature artifacts.

Happy brewing!

Green also used to have (though I guess it still exists) Living Artifact which is an enchantment AND not anti-Artifact, but I totally get (and agree with) the notion. I just wish they would give us another poltergeist like Xenic Poltergeist. That was a MUCH more enjoyable animate-Artifact effect. Now that I think about it... I guess I’d like more Xenic things in general.

Hey, GrimlockVIII, thanks for you suggestions :)

I don't think Xenic Poltergeist will kill the target, because it is not a creature when it is targeted*. But as you mention, it would provide some utility by being able to kill artifacts in a two step process (first turn it into a creature, then second killing it with Horobi and an targeting ability).

I have played Grave Betrayal earlier, and it is a really good card. However, I took it out because it is very mana expensive, and because it was a bit chaotic to be playing everyone elses creatures. I think it could work well in this deck, but I just didn't enjoy playing it that much..

*Im happy to be corrected on this if Im wrong
