2x Expedite

FNM -2-2 - January 8th 2016

xplanxalex, 9 years ago

Round 1: R/B Aggro (2-1)

  • I played against this deck two weeks ago and it was more or less the same. Game 1 I lost pretty quickly as he curved Dragon Fodder into Hordeling Outburst and I had no answer to the tokens.

  • Game 2 I sided in a lot of my anti aggro cards. Arashin Cleric did a lot of good work holding my opponent off until I could cast Planar Outburst. I proceeded to finish the game out with angel tokens from Sigil of the Empty Throne.

  • Game 3 went about the same as game 1, instead I used Starfield of Nyx to finish the game.

Round 2: Mardu Midrange (2-1)

Round 3: R/G Landfall (0-2)

  • Game 1 went poorly as my opponent took me down quickly with Lightning Berserker and landfall creatures and I didn't hae enough removal.

  • Game 2 I stumbled on lands, only having 3 early on. I managed to live pretty long thanks to two Arashin Clerics, but it wasn't enough. I had Planar Outburst in hand, but didn't have enough lands. On what would be my last turn I drew a Tranquil Cove, which was salt in the wound.

Round 4: Esper Control/Tokens? (0-2)

  • Game 1 was over pretty quickly, I never managed to get a secure board position. I managed to take out Sorin, Solemn Visitor but it was too late.

  • Game 2 I mull to six and he duressed my Negate away, so I had no early answers. I hit land for the rest of the game and just never saw any answers to his planeswalkers and it was a pretty quick match.

What I learned from this week is that this deck has some really good hands and some really bad ones. The deck puts up some okay results but it is inconsistent. I'm thinking of adding black to get some extra removal in the deck.

Mainboard: +1 Treasure Cruise/ -1 Ugin's Insight

Sideboard: +1 Surge of Righteousness/ -1 Pearl Lake Ancient

OGW Changes

meadowsatsunshine, 9 years ago

The second set of Battle for Zendikar block brings us lots of new toys to try. Kalitas is a solid body attached to hate who can keep getting bigger. Matter Reshaper is utterly incredible and Eldrazi Displacer is something fierce to behold, very excited to give that guy a run. Sun Titan and Worldy Tutor have both found their way into the deck along with these changes but we'll see how things eventually settle as the true testing now begins. Enjoy!

g.p. oakland

EL_doctor, 9 years ago

welp went 4-1-3 at the gp at oakland. I was dissapointed that my first opponent didn't show up to the event. second game is where i tied against a bant variation with Stubborn Denials mained. After turns he showed just two lands after his looong last few turns the salt was real. game 3 (2-1) i went against a temur beats deck with the usual savage knuckle blade, crater's claw both versions of surrak and included Sarkhan Unbroken. pretty straight forward match lost to the first with dragonclaw just giving his team trample. two and three, Servant of the Scale and consecutive Avatar of the Resolutes just was too with multiple Hardened Scales, Abzan Falconer avatar and a Managorger Hydra.game 4(0-2) anafenza the formost just wrecks this deck. that is all. game 5 (2-1) esper tokens close every game but avatar and the falconer ftw. game 6 (2-1) dark jeskai with Monastery Mentor wrecked game 3 with no green or a 3rd land when i needed it and could barely get a few walkers out. 7 (2-0) beat a fun simic ramp deck with ulamog and Part the Waterveil. felt the closest since if i did not win that turn i was always dead on the crack back. hangerback at 5+Valorous Stance= swing wide. 8(0-2)another dark jeskai but with the usual Mantis Rider and tasigur of the golden fang just got wrecked. if i had not tied who knows, i had a shot at 6-3 but failed to do so. still this is a w.i.p., changes have been made accordingly, though suggestions would be greatly appreciated,

This past Friday i went 3-1 so pretty happy over all. still needs a few tweaks but for now it is good in my books! Could definitely use a better side board, any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Jace...

AlCarbohne, 9 years ago

Jace is in there because I happen to have one and it helps me cycle some unwanted cards to get the combo faster. Not necessary tough. \- 2 Gitaxian Probe \+ 2 Dispel. Gitaxian Probe was essentially used to check if we can go off, Dispels just enables it, whereas Gitaxian Probe actually doesn't.

Resetting the comments for this second version of the deck. Have dug this one out recently and further refined it. Looking for feedback on further refinements to make it competitive for FNM play.

3-1 at first ever standard event

TobyG, 9 years ago

I went 3-1 and tied for second. What waylayed me mostly was mistakes, I could've gone 4-0 if I had played it differently.

First match: 2-1 vs Naya tokens

The first game he was mana flooded and I won it easily, using Wingmate Roc to finish. The second game I was mana flooded, but what really cost me the game was when I traded with my Knight of the White Orchid, not realizing that it would effectively neutralize my 2 Battle Brawlers. My opponent curved into a resolute blade master and overran me with a bunch of double striking tokens. The third game went complete in my favor. I curved a Sorin (who I was playing in the place of a card that hadn't arrived) into a ob nixilis for the win.

Second match: 2-1 vs UB eldrazi

The first match was easy, his deck was not super well built and just didn't have answers to my threats. The second game is was completely mana screwed, and he dropped a Sire of Stagnation while I was still at 2 lands, so I conceded. The third match once again went my way. Once I resolved an ob nixilis, I killed all his creatures while drawing more of mine and took over the game.

Third match: 0-2 vs UB control

My opponent was very niticky abut rules, and this being my first ever standard event, I was not ready. The first match, I accidentally drew before I untapped and he made all my stuff stay tapped that turn, effectively saving him 4 life. At the end of the game, he was at 1. That mistake cost me the game. Game 2 was very very close. He milled me to death with Sphinx's Tutelage at 3 life when I had an unopposed Wingmate Roc on board.

Fourth match: 2-1 vs mono red aggro

This was my friend's deck that I had already playtested against many times and won every time. The first match I took some early damage, but managed to stabilize with Wingmate Roc. In the second game I became foolhardy and took a 5 lander where my only removal was Stasis Snare. He killed me quickly while I top decked lands. The third game was a breeze, my turn 4 Sorin gave me enough life to just go no blocks for the rest of the game. I won with a double Wingmate Roc. My friend had previously gone 3-0, so we were happy to tie at 3-1 each.

Very happy with my score, and I have learned from my mistakes.

Trimming more fat

thenightmaremuffin, 9 years ago

Curse of the Cabal turned out to be less than what I had hoped. Luckily, my lgs happened to have Kokusho, the Evening Star in the case!! Wretched Confluence was also lackluster here, and dropped in favor of Black Sun's Zenith. Lastly, Yavimaya Elder felt like a dead draw every time, so it has been dropped to make way for Nyx Weaver. This way we can focus on feeding the 'yard to increase our resources!

The sideboard exists as burn spells for other aggro decks or damaging my own creatures for the purpose of enter the battlefield effects, something like that; thats how its justified. Also goblins in oath of the gatewatch once more of those come to light

4-0 at local FNM

oliverewell1, 9 years ago

Went 4-0 at a local FNM with this deck. Had some favorable matchups and some not so much Game 1:R/W Soul Sisters I thought this was gonna be a lose, didn't believe i could outrace, but i did. Lost game 2 on a misplay but came out on top 2-1 Game 2:G/R Tron One of this decks most favorable matchups. Turn 3 kill game 1 then turn 4 kill game 2, 2-0 Game 3: Kiki-Chord Started out of the gate way too fast for him to deal with and disrupted his entire game plan, 2-0 Game 4: Death and Taxes Was a little worried with the fact that I had alot of fetches but the burn was way too much to deal with, went 2-0 Overall, I had some pretty favorable matches throughout, besides Soul Sisters, which i was very surprised I won fairly easily. Tron is too slow, death and taxes cant really deal with the burn and you just have to burn all the creatures out facing kiki. I hope some people will take a look at a newer way to play zoo decks. One idea that a friend of mine gave to me was to sub out the 1 mountain to bring in 1 forest instead so i could play atarka's command and wild nacatl if i got blood moon or something else like that. I am not sure how i feel about that right now. I am going to playtest with that idea for a while. Please upvote if you like this and want to know how this deck fares in other tournaments! Any and all suggestions will be welcome for maindeck and sideboard!

With advice, a larger focus on goblins has been found still working along the lines of resummon using alesha, but for bring back more so then enter the battlefield. Thanks Slickuse uwu
