Arashin Cleric

Creature — Human Cleric

When Arashin Cleric enters the battlefield, you gain 3 life.

TriusMalarky on What, Exactly, is Wrong with …

Intervention Pact has the text box " : pay on your next upkeep or lose."

Lone Missionary is a far better card in Modern and Legacy, where it and aggro decks exist, and Arashin Cleric isn't too bad in Pioneer.

"But it's good in commander!!!!1!" Nope. It's probably hitting one token, or one of the creatures Hoofie buffed, or their commander one time. Let's see what does much, much better: Fog , Holy Day , Clinging Mists , Blinding Fog , Arachnogenesis and Teferi's Protection , most of which are unplayable and the best are, well, Teferi's Protection is pretty good because white doesn't get much else.

Compared to Pact of the Titan, which is Bonebreaker Giant except it has flash and you don't have to pay for it immediately.

It's like comparing a Frito to draft chaff. One shouldn't be in your deck, and other's life purpose is to be destroyed.

Nice build. May you should include Lone Missionary or Arashin Cleric in the sideboard against burn.

On the note of lifegain, life is far and away one of the least important resources in the game. It's only relevant against aggro or if you are actively using it as a resource with, for example, Ad Nauseam or Sign in Blood.

There are two main reasons to include lifegain: either you get advantages with cards like Ajani's Pridemate, Griffin Aerie, Resplendent Angel, etc., in which case you mostly want creatures with lifegain or Fountain of Renewal. Otherwise, you're looking at effects like Lone Missionary, Arashin Cleric or Life Goes On/Chaplain's Blessing as sideboard cards against aggro.

I'm not sure I understand the inclusion of Mastermind's Acquisition and Possibility Storm in an otherwise low-to-the-ground taxes deck, but I do like the idea. If I'm not missing a kind of game-ending combo there, I would suggest going up on Thalia, Heretic Cathars (to maybe 3?).

Some other humans you might like:

Abbot of Keral Keep - card advantage!
Alesha, Who Smiles at Death - recur your Freebooters, Thraben Inspectors, Lieutenants... could be a lot of good value, and goes well with General's Enforcer!
Dauntless Bodyguard - it's aggressive and protects key cards like Lieutenant and Kudro.
Knight of the White Orchid
Kytheon, Hero of Akros  Flip
Gideon of the Trials - particularly good against Inverter combo Mardu Skullhunter
Order of Midnight
Sin Collector
Stormfist Crusader
Tithe Taker - classic Taxes-type human!
Tomik, Distinguished Advokist - aggressive and very good against Lotus combo .

Some sideboard possibilties:
Arashin Cleric
Banisher Priest
Charming Prince
Dire Fleet Daredevil
Dragonmaster Outcast
Fiendslayer Paladin
Giant Killer
Harsh Mentor
Kambal, Consul of Allocation
Lantern Scout
Robber of the Rich
Tocatli Honor Guard - obviously you'd have to side out the Freebooters, but this is very good against Inverter

After doing all this research I'm also inspired, so I might make my own list. :)

Initial thoughts: Your curve is very 3 mana heavy, this is good and bad, means you can flood early, but leads to some dead draws late, assuming good draws, this will be fine.

With a curve so low, you may not need high mana manarocks like Gilded Lotus Dreamstone Hedron etc. Orzhov Signet and other 2 mana rocks may be better in its place.

if you have Soul Warden you'll want her sister, Soul's Attendant

You have a lot of ETB effects. Maybe you should have some flicker cards, or ETB abuse cards like Panharmonicon Eerie Interlude SkybindAngel of Condemnation Vizier of Deferment

For the amount of life you gain, Rhox Faithmender may be good in this deck. Big emphasis on may though.

For the amount of recursion you have, you need more sacrifice outlets. Diamond Valley Miren, the Moaning Well Phyrexian Tower Innocent Blood Vampiric Rites maybe even Carnage Altar Diabolic IntentDisciple of Griselbrand Hidden Stockpile Skirsdag Flayer Ashnod's Altar Attrition Bontu the Glorified

Oh, you sorta require Grave Pact I know it has a HUGE black requirement, but it's very much required in this sort of deck.

Some cards I'd consider cutting:

Arashin Cleric not good enough.

Cruel Tutor why not Imperial Seal or Vampiric Tutor?

Greed you already have Erebos, God of the Dead you may as well replace with something better like Yawgmoth's Bargain Arguel's Blood Fast  Flip that being said, you need more card draw. So maybe grab Necropotence or some of the other draw cards I've recommended here.

Gilded Lotus Dreamstone Hedron for what was already said above

Some misc cards/tings (boom) you may want to consider:

No Rest for the Wicked Renounce Selfless Spirit as boardwipe hate

Doomed Necromancer Pious Evangel  Flip

Enchantment tribal? Constellation is a fun mechanic.

Nomad Mythmaker is not very good in this deck, considering that you only have 2 auras, you don't really want to be relying on your opponents to have good auras in their yard to run it.

You don't really have flicker, so cards like Arashin Cleric is not a great card in the deck, if you had flicker, then it'd be decent.

Substituted Arashin Cleric with Atzocan Archer, for flying decks and small creature removal.

Took out Sanguine Bond & Entomber Exarch, and added an extra Ravenous Chupacabra.

And made the mana base quicker (and more painful).

No offense taken, and than you so much for your feedback.

While 'I really like your deck' might be more flattering, these comments are the ones that really help with the deck and the reason why I post it here.

You are probably right about the deck speed, but in testing it works surprising well; and if you manage to survive the first turns, it recovers nicely and quick.

I do have a tendency to 'EDH' my decks a little, adding answers for multiple situations instead of adding more copies of the main cards (which is probably wrong). This said, this deck is a bit special, since once you manage to have a flickering engine on the battlefield, what you want is a toolbox at your disposal, rather than equal ETB effects.

But you are right about the consistency, so I took out Essence Warden and replaced it by a third copy of Arashin Cleric

That way there are now 3 copies of the main cards:

Arashin Cleric - Survive the initial turns while you build your mana

Siege Rhino - Recover & attack

Acidic Slime - Slow down your opponent

Regarding the main goal of the deck, it is to bring out one or two flickering engines and use the tools you have already lied down on the battlefield.

And then win the game through:

while controlling the battlefield state: Acidic Slime , Ravenous Chupacabra

(of course, several cards add to more than one strategy - Siege Rhino, Angel of Condemnation)

And regarding EDH, I agree with you, but I would probably take out black and move to Bant, with Roon of the Hidden Realm )

Again, thank you so much for the feedback.
