Will I ever be satisfied?

ShazamTho, 11 years ago

While the site was down I managed to get my hands on the doubling season I needed, dropping evolution vat. But the more I play the more I realize I desperately need removal. I am thinking Pongify and Rapid Hybridization and one of Curse of the Swine, devestation tide, or Cyclonic Rift but as usual I am not completely sure what I want to get rid of. Riptide Replicator is rather under-performing, so I am pretty sure that is gone. Descendants' Path and Bow of Nylea haven't been doing great either. So I am not sure yet

Updated decklist to current.

Consistency

Kitchen Finks to stuff Zoo, Blade Splicer to stuff... Zoo. Restoration Angel flies over and recurs the first two. Lots of 3 drops but that's actually good with Aether Vial

6-2-0 Top Eight

jyork1213, 11 years ago

Took this deck to its first standard tournament tonight. It performed quite well. My only losses were in round two and I just could not get a decent combination of lands and spells. stuck on two lands game one, and then flooded out game two. But here's a quick breakdown of the night.

Round 1: 2-0 vs. Mono-Black Devo. Close games, but I raced him and won. In game two he made a bad choice with a Thoughtseize that lost him the game.

Round 2: 0-2 vs. Golgari Aggro. Like I said in the intro, just could not draw well.

Round 3: 2-0 vs. Maze's End. Two many different ways for me to deal damage. Started by alternating swinging for a little and then swinging all out. Waiting for him to get to a point where most of his mana was tapped, then I attacked into his fog before nailing him with Aurelia's Fury.

Round 4: 2-0 vs G/R Monsters. My splash of white helps a lot in the mirror match. Smiters instead of boon satyrs, Boros Charm instead of Blood. Helps a lot.

Primalcrux

ptdacon83, 11 years ago

After alot more playtesting I decided to listen to the suggestions and put in Primalcrux, I had to cut the Witchstalker and my sideboard out entirely to stay under the $100 limit (low end average cost).

Test and changes

Arbor Elf will be the mana dorks in the deck.

2x Utopia Sprawl in the place of 1 Forest and 1 Ranger's Guile, it will be great with Arbor Elf

Also, added to the sideboard 2x Leyline of Lifeforce against heavy counter decks (blue ones), 2x Leyline of Vitality against aggro decks (sometimes this one can be a little slow) and 2x Melira, Sylvok Outcast against infect.

The sidedeck numbers maybe change later on, still need other cards to complete it

Now, general idea after various playtests

This deck had great results. Sometimes the combo is quick and the game ends in T3~5, other times you have to control damage taken until draw Umbral Mantle (the new side will help in this case). Or it can just finish the game with a massive attack using 20+ creatures if you dont have Umbral Mantle in play or in your hand

I have a lot of difficulty against a vampire deck and a infect one. An UW control are really dificult to play, if my combo does not works I'm screwd. But my side will help in this cases

Some notes about non combo cards:

Garruk, Primal Hunter is nuts. He can enter play in T3 what is quick and 3 G devotion goes well with Karametra's Acolyte and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. The 3/3 beast token helps a lot to control the match and the -3 makes him the best to this deck, when used with Mistcutter Hydra or/and Giant Growth give you a full hand ready to be used. I did not used the -6, you dont need it. Basically, you will have a lot of mana and him makes sure that you can use it.

Mistcutter Hydra looks a little off in the deck, but with all mana around she can enter a big monster and make your opponent suffer. Haste ability is great to finish the game, even without Umbral Mantle.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is a machine, period

thinking in change Hunter's Prowess for Predator's Strike, the draw is good, but I almost dont use it...

Now, the perfect hand that come 1 time: Umbral Mantle+Elvish Mystic+Viridian Joiner+Chorus of Might+Ranger's Guile and 2 Forest. The draws in turn 2 and 3 are a Forest and Giant Growth.

Turn 1 - Elvish Mystic + Forest Turn 2 - Draws Giant Growth, plays Forest + Viridian Joiner Turn 3 - draw a Forest, plays Giant Growth in Viridian Joiner, tap it, plays Umbral Mantle, tap the other elf and a forest to untap Viridian = infinite mana and power + Chorus of Might = gg

I could have used the forest in turn 3, also Ranger's Guile has not used, but is good have some protection ready to be used

Less W

I think the deck is good enough to be considered functional but not good enough to be considered competent, now. I'm going to start tracking changes more carefully now. The deck looked over 100 cards but actually I was just sloppy editing the list.

Removed:
- Reroute - I don't have enough mana to leave some open for a rarely-used trick
- Sisay's Ring - It hasn't been doing its job, its replacement offers greater flexibility
- Wayfarer's Bauble - overcosted for the level of effectiveness here
- Wild Ricochet - as before, I don't have the mana to leave open for this
- Witches' Eye - I took this out awhile ago and forgot to unlist it

Added:
- Astral Cornucopia - flexible scaling mana artifact
- Citanul Flute - I needed more tutoring effects as the deck is very wonky already.
- Coretapper - another cheap creature with flexible interactions

I've already been in a situation where casting Astral Cornucopia for zero so I could sacrifice it was my best move, so I'm amused at the flexibility it provides. Coretapper interacts with Serum Tank, Everflowing Chalice, Astral Cornucopia, and Lux Cannon at the least, so he could prove worth his measly 2 mana.

Playtest

Ruckover, 11 years ago

I tested this deck out against a G/U deck I have, and the Pestilence deck got smoked. Well placed instants and enchantments make short work of this build. I think it needs to go mono Black, to make the Pest hit harder, and gain some speed. It definitely needs something.

REWORK!!

This deck has been modified to be a bit more competitive and fun. I have taken most of the recommendations into consideration and this deck turned out great. But, I am always open to more suggestions. To more artifact SHENANIGANS!

Ready for Standard.

KrimsonNekros, 11 years ago

Deck is set for Standard this week. This only thing I'm really torn up about atm is whether I should keep my Minotaur Skullcleavers in or sub them out for Kragma Butchers. Still in the Process of getting my hands on Boros Reckoner and the dual lands.

Dreadbore and Deathtouch

Nisus, 11 years ago

Figured that since Dreadbore removes planeswalkers for two then it would be a good fit for this deck. Removed one Doom Blade from the sideboard and threw in a Bow of Nylea to stabalize my life against Aggro if needed
