I am in the process of updating this list and rewriting the primer!

First games!!

BirdieGirlie, 2 days ago

Played my first games with the deck yesterday and I had so much fun!!! I used a slightly different list of cards including some from my maybeboard, I'll update this sometime soon. The name of this deck is DAMN ACCURATE. In fact if you think about it there are practically an infinite amount of lines to play this deck because you have so many different creatures, so it was so overwhelming to keep track of what each one is doing and try to be optimal and stuff! Still it all worked so well!!! And even if I was boardwiped, I could reestablish myself a board so quickly! I got second place my first game and had to dip in the middle of my second to get home on time, but I don't think I could possibly be happier with how the deck played! Well, I never got to play Apex Devastator, but there's always next game!!!

Retired to Digital. The deck feels off. It has too little defensive capability, and too much offensive capability. It feels like I kill my opponents out of nowhere, but can't do anything if they have a board with big(ger) creatures. I don't know yet what the solution is, but I wanna get rid of the feeling of winning out of nowhere, and to have a more reliable defensive option. I think I like the idea of prowess still, but combining it with going wide might be the problem for me. I'm changing the deck to be focused on a few creatures rather than pumping as many as possible, and I'm doing that in a different decklist.

===accordion ===panel: Changelog 02-05-2025

Out

In

Reasons for removal:

  • I want to use Cyclonic Rift in another deck.
  • Reasons for adding:

  • Increasing Vengeance is sort of a temporary filler. I think it's mostly just a card good in a specific combo, and I'm checking here if it's good without specific other cards.

1st Revision — Mostly a Few FF Cards

    August_Cross, 2 days ago

After the several games I've played with this list, I think the core generally works already and only really wants some fine-tuning. As a result, this deck's updates are probably going to be small, unless I specifically decide at some point to cut down the deck's curve (e.g. removing things like Kindred Discovery for card advantage with a lower mana cost).

    ===accordion ===panel:Card Changes

It's been a second since I marked Varchild for removal from the deck, but I believe my reasoning was that—even though she has a cool play pattern with Arthur—she doesn't actually do anything for the deck's gameplan. It's kinda like she belongs to an entirely different gameplan. As a vanilla creature that needs to connect to provide any benefit, she requires the rest of the deck to help her function, when her payout means nothing. I chose Eagles to replace her because I've had a little trouble finding my land drops, and Eagles has an equally cool play pattern of cycling it from my hand even after Arthur puts it on the field, in which scenario, it actually provides a benefit to the whole team that makes the attack a lot safer.

If ever a card was MADE for me, it's Dion. Probably my favorite character from FF16, who got made into a good creature that works perfectly with my semi-niche typal deck: both for its knight synergy AND having a ETB for Arthur to double up that advances the aggro gameplan. I'm not completely sure on removing Eowyn (since knights don't have a ton of role compression like this), but I realized that her ability gets difficult to use when my knight lords increase her power stat. The deck still has lots of interaction without her, and choosing to remove her specifically also keeps the deck's curve the same, compared to removing something low-cost like Worthy Knight.

Hero of Bladehold --> Summon: Knights of Round

I think people underrate Hero of Bladehold these days, but even in this deck, finding it off Arthur misses the timing for its attack triggers. That alone means I could probably find a more synergistic inclusion. Plus, this deck might benefit from lowering its curve, so I mostly focused on cutting cards above and . That statement comes out ironic since I'm replacing it with Knights of the Round, which might not be realistically castable, but finding it off Arthur sounds appealing enough to try. Plus if I do cast it, it floods the board with so many Knights, that an unanswered Knights of the Round probably presents a win in most scenarios.

Knight-Errant of Eos --> Battle Angels of Tyr

Even though Arthur bounces Knight-Errant to my hand, which would let me convoke it, I find I just don't have enough creatures to get good convokes when the deck isn't built around this card, especially if I just tapped some of them to attack. The problem gets worse when you consider this deck's extra top-end, creatures that are too costly to find off Knight-Errant because Arthur is usually temporarily cheating them into play. My copy of Battle Angels freed itself from my Gwyn deck, so it made perfect sense to run it here. It has similar potential to be a utility creature—drawing me cards and making mana—while the deck's classic lord stacking makes better use of the Myriad ability to push damage through.

    Minor Fix

    Puppyroni, 3 days ago

Noticed that I had 27 Land instead of 24, so I fixed So now Plains have 11 instead of 17 Also add 2 more to: "Arahbo, the First Fang", Feline Sovereign and King of the Pride

    legendofa's Recomendations update

    Puppyroni, 3 days ago

Regal Caracal has now 2 instead of 4 A Realm Reborn is Removed Plains has now 17 instead of 20 Forest has now 7 instead of 20 A few notes: This does not use Sideboard cuz since I never use it since I play casual and as for Overrun since to kinda make more usable I use Scattered Groves and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx

    Dealing With Phyrexian Obliterator

    MarshCasualty, 3 days ago

    Some options.

Tear Asunder: Would need a bunch of duals, and probably Birds. That would make Utopia Sprawl and I guess Old-Growth Troll a bit riskier. Possible cuts: Outland Liberator  Flip or Scrapshooter.

Ambush Viper: I'm thinking of taking Skylasher out for this anyway, since even in the matchups where it's good, I'm not sure sticking a 2/2 is that great for this deck.

Blast Zone: If I'm cutting lands for Tear Asunder, I'm wary, but that aside, I could probably swap this in for a forest and be basically fine.

Kenrith's Transformation: Could see this being better than Kraul Harpooner (or maybe Outland Liberator or Skylasher if I haven't cut them for other stuff). I'm also not totally convinced Ascendant Packleader pulls its weight.

Song of the Dryads: Tough to cut for. I'm thinking maybe Eldritch Evolution, since the toolboxing element is kind of slow, but I'm not sure. It might be able to replace a 1-2cmc aggro creature or a combat trick.

Act of Aggression: Possibly the goofiest of all. Similar logic to Dismember, and it's a pretty decent effect for aggro to have access to anyway. You probably don't want to play this for more than 3 too often, but it's worth running at least the shock and probably painland. Also worth looking for incidental sac and lifegain if I'm running this. Ie High Market, but there are mana dorks and double/triple green to think about.

In general, Stonecoil Serpent could probably come out for something...

    Another slightly off-topic idea:

Oversoul of Dusk: This would make me feel better about the Skylasher cut. It'd be awesome to run this, and I actually really want to add it now. I'd probably swap it for Ulvenwald Oddity  Flip, though I could see a case being made for Mistcutter Hydra or Thrun, the Last Troll since they're also pretty slow.

    Hypothetical overhaul

    IQuarent, 4 days ago

IN: Back in Town, Careful Study, Pyre of Heroes, Lethal Scheme

These cards I have my eye on. I was considering perhaps leaning harder into leveraging the grave in this deck. We'll see if I can find some openings for these cards and restructure.

    Subtle Power Up/Down

    DreadKhan, 4 days ago

Pulled Sea Gate Wreckage (which almost never works, ever, especially because this deck is designed to not run out of cards because it's MVs are so astoundingly high) and Crop Rotation (it's a Game Changer and I don't think we need that stuff in Gruul to compete), and in go Inkmoth Nexus and Hour of Promise. Inkmoth sorta combos with Kessig Wolf Run, while Hour of Promise can actually dig out both, and assuming I've got like 20 mana available I can probably remove a player next turn, even if they have flying blockers. This deck also has a few cards that care about technical bodies that exist, so this is the kind of deck that might want a Khalni Garden as well.

    Deck Edit for Final Fantasy

===accordion ===panel: Cuts Tablet of the Guilds ===endpanel ===panel: Additions Papalymo Totolymo ===endpanel ===panel: Explanation • Tablet of the Guilds is a card I have a ton of sentimental value towards just because I haven't seen it played outside of this list and people always love seeing a card they haven't encountered previously. Its art invokes a sense of Ravnica's guild pact and it's effect is a great boon for Karlov, but with MtG's ever increasing power creep Papalymo Totolymo is replacing it. The cleric's 2 CMC may not be colorless, leaving us less room for a turn one play off Sol Ring, but his ability is so similar to Tablet of the Guilds that it seemed like the best cut. The 4-mana forced sacrifice effect seems like great value on top of an effect that'll already be gaining us life while casting removal and combo pieces. It'll give the deck more removal and additional avenues of play across the early, mid, and late games. ===endpanel ===endaccordion
