Mycologist

Creature — Human Druid

At the beginning of your upkeep, put a spore counter on Mycologist.

Remove three spore counters from Mycologist: Create a 1/1 green Saproling creature token.

Sacrifice a Saproling: You gain 2 life.

I came across my copy of Mycologist the other day and was like, "I like her, but where the hell does she even fit?"

Here. The answer is here. I love all this tribal synergy and flavour! Even the names of your sorceries fit the theme. It's so good. Very well done.

Deathspore Thallid can be used to turn your saporlings into some sort of alright removal while being another slow rolling producer.

Night Soil is a great card that can just devastate people's graveyards and you get saporlings for doing it.

Life and Limb is a risky card but fallowed up with a card like Overwhelming Stampede , Overcome , or Return of the Wildspeaker

Mycologist is another slow rolling card but he is low cmc and is outside green to spread colors around as well as sacrificing for life being good.

Poison-Tip Archer , Zulaport Cutthroat , and Bastion of Remembrance can be used to get some benefit out of saporling deaths kind of like Slimefoot does.

General removal for the deck can be with cards like Murder , Vendetta , Doom Blade , Beast Within , and Swords to Plowshares

Card draw for the deck you could use is Harmonize , Shamanic Revelation , Beast Whisperer , Painful Truths , and Read the Bones

Algaemaster on Mushrooms grow on trees, and …

Hi all!

So this is one of my first attemps to make a deck.... And I love mushrooms and wanted to make a flavourful deck that had basically mushrooms, and their environment, trees and treefolk... To be played with friends but still as mighty s possible. But I am honestly struggling to fit everything in properly.... And no clue about which spells to choose! Any feedback is welcomed. So far I got something like this:

Lands x20 Murmuring Bosk x4 Stirring Wildwood x2 Evolving Wilds x2 Krosan Verge x2 Forest x6 Plain x2 Swamp x2

Treefolk

Verdeloth the Ancient Unstoppable Ash Orchard Warden Leaf-Crowned Elder Treefolk Harbinger Bosk Banneret Dountless Dourbark Timber Protector Ghoultree Indomitable Ancients Great Oak Guardian/ Cloudcrown Oak

Fungi I really wasnt sure here, not sure if mushrooms would be better represented in this deck by little ones that create saprolings and that is it, or if it is more convenient to keep the good ones in... so had those ideas so far. Also wanted to keep all as mushroomy as possible.

Mycologist x1 Essential for the theme I am aiming for, was thinking of 2 of these. Thallid Shell-Dweller x2 Benefits from using toughness to power up along with treefolk? Corpsejack Menace x3 Ghave, Guru of Spores x2 Mycoloth x2

Enchantments/Spells... The same for this, trying to keep it as mushroom foresty as possible. [pGrow from the Ashes]] is very tempting for this reason... but having other fedges.... Seed Spark ? Lignify ? Saproling Symbiosis ?? Reach of Branches ?? Rootgrapple ?? Fungal Sprouting Fungal Plots Luminiscent Rain Verdant Embrace Infect Pollenbright Wings Whirlwind Was thinking of adding something like Wrath of god or something to clean up the other's cards while having the [Timber Protector] ... Thoughts? And for more multiplayer Sheltering Ancient Heartwood Storyteller Collective Voyage ??

Well, please I would appreciate any feedback. Playing 60 cards, not much restriction... Also potenetially could make it into an EDH deck? But my pals do not really have those although we could probably get into that.

The budget is around 40 bucks...

Thanks in advance.

All the best.

Some suggestions:
Intangible Virtue (no seriously, why are you not already playing this?)
Sporecrown Thallid (when it becomes legal)
Sarpadian Empires, Vol. VII
Slimefoot, the Stowaway (when it becomes legal)
Sprout Swarm (lets you pump out saprolings at a steady pace after you've been boardwiped)
Supply/Demand (ALL THE TOKENS! Even more hilarious with Cryptolith Rite)
Thelonite Hermit (only if you have room)
Vitaspore Thallid
Mycologist
Necrogenesis (sideboard)
Pallid Mycoderm
Scatter the Seeds
Selesnya Guildmage
Selesnya Evangel
Vitu-Ghazi, the City-Tree
Gavony Township (probably your strongest option for buffing your team)
Glare of Subdual ("Hahaha fuck your attack phase!" is what you get to tell each of your opponents playing aggro or Affinity decks)

I have to agree about Paradox Haze. The card is good, but not in this deck. You aren't doing anything particularly broken with it, other than getting spore counters. It's not like you're using it to abuse Aether Hub. Playing white would be far better as you'd get access to more saproling generators, anthems, and so on.

You also need better removal. I like that you're playing Go for the Throat. Path to Exile and Fatal Push are going to be the bee's knees. Victim of Night, Abrupt Decay, and Tragic Slip are other options.

I like the idea of using the proliferate mechanic to get those spore counters going, but Grim Affliction is rather "meh." Tezzeret's Gambit is about the only other viable option, regardless of whether you decide to play blue. Contagion Clasp is also rather "meh" in Modern.

Keep in mind, you're basically a G/B/x Tokens deck that relies on creatures instead of instants/sorceries to generate tokens. You have a lot of the same weaknesses but less of the strengths of a conventional token deck. Seriously consider checking MtG Goldfish or MtG Top 8 token decks to be sure you're not just playing a worse version of those decks.

Thank you for taking a look, Snacrifice. I had around 117 cards in the initial list, so I spent lots of time last night just trying to make cuts. The mana base is not set yet, though. I just listed the forests/plains to get the count in there. Now, on to the suggestions....

Spore Flower fits, but it doubles Spike Weaver. If I don't have a Weaver, though, I'll go with it as a budget option, for sure. I do like Mycologist, it must be the Timeshifted version of Elvish Farmer. I may have to squeeze it in somewhere. I like Sporogenesis, but the only bad thing is if it gets removed, all, ALL of the spore counters go away. Wait, I just read that, and it says "fungus counters," not "spore counters," so that may be playable. I'll consider it. I was not aware of Selesnya Evangel, and she is strictly better than the guildmage, so in she goes. I'll see if I can find a spot for Sprout Swarm, but I'm not sure on Seed Spark.

Thank you again for taking a look. I'm not sure how good this deck will be, but it should be fun if it gets going.

You might like Spore Flower, as it's a fungus that doubles as a fog-effect.(especially with Fungal Bloom and the rest). Also Mycologist is another white spore maker for you.

I'm suprised not to see Sporogenesis or the absolutely amazing Sprout Swarm(the latter of which is one of my favorite cards printed. I prefer Selesnya Evangel over the guildmage myself.

Seed Spark is a really decent mixed used card as well.
