Been playing off and on since the first Ravnica Block. I absolutely love this game, but I'm still not very good at it. Slowly but surely I'm learning to be a better player.

My decks are all heavily themed - sometimes to the detriment of the operation of the deck - so if you're wondering "why the bleep is [so-and-so] in there?" that's probably the reason. It's allll about that tasty tasty flavour. I'm also not a big spender and dislike staples as a general rule.

Most importantly, green is the best colour. I will T: Fight target user on that. Also, Riot is the best mechanic.

Congratulations! Finishing a manuscript is a huge feat. To be honest I'm still working on mine, but it's so close to being done I'm comfortable searching for someone to pick it up.

I have a few pieces on DeviantArt, but haven't uploaded anything for ages. I've heard Patreon is a good forum too for writers. But other than that I know little.

We should try to connect off platform and trade world-building experiences! I love hearing about other people's creative process.

I am also a fantasy fiction writer and am currently finishing the draft of my first big story to try and send it to publishers.

I do not have an online portfolio or place yet for people to view my work but if you have some advice on where I can start I would appreciate it!

Thank you! I will have to look at more of your decks shortly. The few I've seen are SO COOL. Theme is everything, and I love that you focus on the behind-the-scenes aspects too, like the MTG stories, and even inspiration behind those.

I write fiction! Fantasy (novels) and sci-fi (short stories) to be specific. I'm actually trying to get my first complete novel manuscript seen by agents, because I'm old-school like that.

Do you have an online portfolio or place for people to see your work?

I wanted to thank you for your kind comment you left on my wall! Indeed it seems we are of kindred spirit in our deck building styles, which is the reason I upvoted and looked through your decks. Out of interest, what do you like to write the most?

Nice deck! I had a quick look through, and you seem to have a bunch of fight cards. Normally, they'd be great, but I think for deathtouch creatures, direct damage might be even better (that way your dudes survive the exchange).

Perhaps consider replacing things like Ancient Animus , Pounce , Setessan Tactics , and Inscription of Abundance with one-sided fights like Devouring Tendrils , Nature's Way , Ram Through , Aggressive Instinct , or Rabid Bite

I looked at Heart-Piercer Bow , but sadly it's the equipment doing the damage, not the creature it's attached to. Otherwise it would be great.

First strike makes sense, but I would probably swing at hexproof or shroud creature when I have regeneration in hand. I think that effectively does the same thing.

I LOVE Nessian Boar ! I didn't know he was a thing. Same with Nemesis Mask - those are both great includes.

Vigor is a really awesome card. I hate it, but it works XD. I'll probably put it in.

Thanks so much for the help! I'm looking forward to building this IRL so I can murder my friends when they're winning too much.

This looks sooo cool! I love the idea of this deck completely changing based on what else is at the table. Very fun. Can't wait to see how it performs!

This was great fun to read and very educational too! I had no idea that all women learned magic. If only that tradition still survived...

Kaldhiem is such a great set! This is a perfect homage to it. Two questions: 1) Have you played with this deck, and if so, does it perform the way you want it to? And 2) Is Narfi, Betrayer King drawn from any Norse myth, or is he the product of WOTC minds?

Ooohhh this is so cool!! I love the addition of white. It allows for so many new options like Reveillark and some shenanigans.

Amazing deck, looks very fun - and much harder to take down than mine LOL

Bone Shards is a great include! Swapping out some axes, or maybe even some of the enchantments like you said would be great.

I understand about the enchantments being too slow, but synergy is kind of my thing in all my decks. As soon as I exclude them and include Lightning Bolt and Inquisition of Kozilek , the deck starts losing its uniqueness in the modern space. Don't get me wrong, they're great cards and likely highly effective at winning games, but I'm less about winning and more about playing for fun.

Really great advice - thank you! I'll keep all suggestions on a list so I can change up the contents as I playtest! Now I just need to convince my playgroup to actually play a 60 card game instead of EDH...

zapyourtumor Mana base is most assuredly where I need the most help. I'm a budget player and paying money for land kills me inside. But I definitely see that they make a deck more efficient.

I will include more untapped duals - likely your great suggestion of Foreboding Ruins and Dragonskull Summit at the least. I'm honestly not tooooo worried about having tons of black mana: in the ideal situation, the only black mana cost I have would be Claim . The only reason I'd need to hardcast Lightning Skelemental would be if I couldn't discard him with Cathartic Reunion or Lightning Axe .

That being said, would you still recommend more than 8 duals? I'm still new to this, so I'll heed your advice! And thanks so much for the help!

A friend of mine has a One Punch Man deck with Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest at the helm, but I love seeing a mono-green version! This is more up my alley ahaha.

Have you considered Predatory Urge ? I use fight cards in stompy creature decks that have troubles with fliers, and having the fight mechanic on a stick is handy.

Great deck! Looks like a bunch of fun.

Not growing up in that era and not having any interest in it makes you 100% not the target audience XD I was an 80s/90s kid who loves video games and adores puzzles, so this was so much fun for me to read. You are completely correct in that it is written for self-insert - almost unapologetically. And is about a nerdy kid who lives in a simulation. The whole haptic doll reference was crude to be sure, but was probably the most believable part of the "real world" in the book.

My main beef with the book was the numbers Wade always gave when he was mentioning his research hours. I crunched the numbers recently (I just finished listening to the audiobook last week actually), and to do all the research he did would have taken him over 11 years, not the 5 he claimed in the book. But you know what? I can forgive that using this rationale alone: The book is written in first person and is Wade's diary/autobiography of sorts, as set in the preface. People always speak in hyperbole, so when he says, "Oh I watched that movie 40 times!", you gotta take it with a grain of salt.

The book is contrived, it's unrealistic, it's self-indulgent, it's not terribly well-written - and it's probably one of the most light-hearted and fun-to-read books I've read in a long time. It's pure entertainment value. If you don't like the 80s and don't like puzzles, it's not for you and I totally forgive you for that.

This is the end of my TedTalk.

BOXES_O_MOXES I meant replicating the deathtouch/ping effect you have going. Funnily enough, I just went down a huge rabbit hole looking at the viability of mono-green deathtouch with Fynn, the Fangbearer as a pauper commander. I quickly realized he's banned in pauper, but could still likely compete in a budget commander build... lol we'll see what cards I have at home that could make this a reality.

I really like the mechanics of this deck though. I have Freed from the Real in my Kwain, Itinerant Meddler deck for the most group hugs! Great card, and I'll have to see if there's any sort of equivalent in not-blue.

July 14, 2021 1:37 p.m.

This looks like a ton of fun to pilot! I love the idea of this build. I might try to replicate with another colour combo...

July 14, 2021 12:01 p.m.

I am grossly offended at your choice of books. The movie was garbage, but the book is so enjoyable!

All that aside, the deck looks fun! Can't wait to build something with Volo.

July 14, 2021 11:52 a.m.

Yeah, I've never been that interested in competitive magic in any format, as I feel it limits deck construction with auto-includes. And I love random jank cards too much. It would be interesting to see if this deck had any chance in hell going toe-to-toe with something at the competitive level.

Add +1 to your comment an additional time for the pun!!

DMFF Thanks a bunch! Yes, untapped duals do make sense. I think I can squeeze the budget to get proper land. Thanks for the suggestions!

If you do make a version of this with no holds barred, please link it! I'd love to check it out.

July 11, 2021 4:41 p.m.

Hey Saccox! Thanks for the suggestions! Ooo, I do really like Mayhem Devil - He's certainly more efficient than Furnace Celebration . I'm just worried about creature ratio. Would you suggest subbing him in for any of the creatures, or adding 3-4 of him in for a total of 24?

Your opinion means a lot! You're the modern budget master! Thanks for the help :)

July 11, 2021 9:01 a.m.

I really hope when you play this deck in person you use real coins as counters XD. I feel like this deck would be a whole bunch of fun to play! I've always liked Athreos and haven't seen many decks use him. Very cool.
