My take on one of the laziest generals I know, Oloro, Ageless Ascetic.

Basic Description Show

First and foremost thanks for looking at my deck!

This deck is heavily based on enchantments to stack effects to stall my opponents until I can get a win condition or winning combo on the battlefield. This is a means of control, but more of deterrence. I don't want to stop people from playing the game, as I would hate it if anyone did that to me. I just want to sit back, relax, and watch others duke it out until I come in for the win.

Note

I don't care for infinite combos. I know there are quite a few that could be placed in here, but I am avoiding those. This deck doesn't need them in all honesty, but linear playstyles tend to be boring. Unless the playgroup is specifically tuned to those types of decks, it is more fun to work for the win, as well as make the games different each time.

I am always willing to consider suggestions that you would think could make this deck better. Just a heads up this deck is made for MULTIPLAYER games. It can still hold its own on one v one, but multiplayer is where it really shines. Almost no one cares about Oloro, Ageless Ascetic until later in the game where I'll already have my buffers and control aspects in play or ready. Please don't hold back any comments or suggestions, all that I ask is to be respectful as nobody came to this site to deal with an asshole. We all have enough of those people in our daily lives.

Possible win conditions Show

Avacyn, Angel of Hope with Enchanted Evening on the battlefield then cast Cleansing Meditation. This will destroy all permanents my opponents control (unless it has indestructible) while I get to keep mine. Great combination.

Sanguine Bond and Beacon of Immortality is another possible win condition being that my deck is somewhat centered around lifegain. Having Sanguine Bond on the field then instant speed Beacon of Immortality to take out the pesky player I don't like is going to be fun.

Omniscience is such an overpowered card in itself. If I have this in play, or Avacyn, Angel of Hope I'll cast my Armageddon so that no one else can tap for mana, but I can still play my cards. With Omniscience on the battlefield I'll be able to cast everything in my hand for free, and Avacyn, Angel of Hope on the battlefield, my lands won't get destroyed. This is a combo when most people tend to scoop as well.

The possibility of just constantly attacking with Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Nezahal, Primal Tide is there. Definitely the plan "Z" of the deck haha.

Protection Show

Greater Auramancy and Copy Enchantment/Clever Impersonator/Estrid's Invocation. This will protect all of my enchantments so that they will continuously build their effects on each other until I get to my win conditions.

Rest in Peace and Energy Field. This will protect me from all damage. Definitely a stall tactic that benefits from my opponents not being able to use their graveyards either.

Solitary Confinement - Just an amazing card to stall the game for me. Discarding cards and skipping my draw step are almost ineffective due to how many card draw effects I have.

Teferi's Protection - This card is so good it deserves its own spot. I don't play counters, so this is a great reaction to Merciless Eviction or Back to Nature (if I don't have Avacyn on the field). It can give me another turn to live, which may come in handy if someone wastes their resources into one huge combination or attack.

Oblivion Ring/Cast Out/Detention Sphere/Grasp of Fate - Enchantment ways for targeted removal.

Anguished Unmaking/Utter End - Instant speed targeted removal of something that I don't want coming back.

Tainted AEther - Almost shuts down token type decks. Also, makes people sacrifice other resources to keep something they want more. I like the way it makes people think harder about their plays, even thought it paints a target on me.

Sphere of Safety - Another good deterrence. In many cases it may depend on whether my opponents choose to cast spells or attack me.

Moat - This is to ensure I can hold out long enough to get what I need. I had to trade in A LOT of cards to get this bad boy.

Nevermore/Runed Halo/Gideon's Intervention - I'm grouping together because I'll probably name/target commanders with these three cards.

Merciless Eviction/Supreme Verdict/Toxic Deluge - Staple board wipes in these colors

Humility and Night of Souls' Betrayal is a great combo to stop everyone from doing stupid things with creatures. While it can hurt my own yes (the four I play) it is a way to stop the board until I win. Even individually, these cards are great stall/protection aspects.

Notable Exclusions Show

Exquisite Blood - This combination with Sanguine Bond I will never play in any deck. Even though individually it would work extremely well in here. I feel this combination is too easy of a win, especially in Oloro, Ageless Ascetic. If you haven't guessed, I'm not a Spike.

Aura Thief - This card may be put back in the deck, but I'm taking it out for now. Aura Thief was a card that I just didn't play very often. It was the first choice to discard if I didn't have a maximum handsize, and the combination with Enchanted Evening was one that I rarely could pull off. Even with the instant speed combination that I get fairly often (Omniscience + Vedalken Orrery). If I feel like the deck becomes weaker after taking it out I'll consider putting it back in. I'm putting it here so people understand that I do know this is a combination, and it was in the deck for quite a long time.

Karmic Justice - This card was in the original list since the first time I made it. However, because I play Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Greater Auramancy, and the consistency of getting them, this card has become a little obsolete. Mass board wipes, other than Merciless Eviction, I don't worry about often because I can get them back with Replenish or I have Avacyn, Angel of Hope to make them indestructible. Of course, I also have the catch-all card Teferi's Protection when necessary. Targeted removal is generally shut off because I tend to try to get the shroud combo Greater Auramancy + Copy Enchantment/Clever Impersonator to protect my enchantments anyway. If the deck feels weaker because of this exclusion I will put it back in.

Starfield of Nyx - This is one that may come back eventually, but I rarely ever won with it, let alone cast it in general. I never wanted my entire board to be susceptible to board wipes, and now with Humility and Night of Souls' Betrayal in the deck this becomes even worst. We'll see if I miss it.

Leyline of the Void - Don't get me wrong, this card is great for what it does. However, I tend to search for Rest in Peace with consistency due to the combo it has with Energy Field. Leyline of the Void has simply become a card that I would play only because it was another enchantment. It may come back if graveyard strategies become more prevalent in my meta, but for now we'll see if I miss it.

Cloud Cover - Because of the printing of Estrid's Invocation it allows for a third copy effect to ensure that I can copy Greater Auramancy to protect my enchantments. I'd rather have full protection, than bounce protection.

Helm of Obediance - I tried this combo to have an insta-win in long games or ones where I needed to "win out of nowhere." The problem with this is I draw a lot and have many tutors. I was willing to try this "infinite" combo because it didn't kill the entire table immediately, but it is still an infinite combo which I do not want in this particular deck.

Mirage Mirror - This card worked sometimes, but others it just sat on the board doing nothing. I'm taking it out and I'll see if I miss it.

Delaying Shield, Force Bubble, and Decree of Silence all combo with Solemnity which allows no damage to be done to me (and counter all of my opponents spells. At the current moment I don't believe the deck needs this combo as I have solid protection with Sphere of Safety and Rest in Peace/Energy Field. These have sufficed thus far.

Stasis and Smothering Tithe - I do own these if I ever want to make Oloro MEAN, but I'm just not at that place right now.

Karma - If they ever print a lifegain version of Fiery Emancipation I will ABSOLUTELY revisit putting this in here and put a bigger focus on lifegain.

Shark Typhoon, sigil of an empty throne, and Hallowed Haunting are just not the way I want to make Oloro, if that ever changes these are probably an auto-include.

Mindslaver/Academy Ruins lock was definitely a thought for the deck, but I'm not quite at a TRUE stax point...yet.

Mystic Remora - I draw enough so I don't feel like I need this and paying for it every turn.

Nettlevine Blight - I really tried to find a place for this because I do love it. It's just slow and there are very easy ways to just find a way to sac or kill whatever creature they decide to attach it to. It rarely continues beyond the first target.
