Creature (1)

This deck has evolved constantly over the past two years. It originally started as the Ezuri, Claw of Progress preconstructed commander deck. I made the Ezuri deck as competitive as possible, here is the old decklist:

***RETIRED*** Ezuri, the Phyrexian Funhouse

The current decklist is heavily based off the decklist by peripheryy. Also includes combos from the Animar decklist by JMCraig.

This deck's main focus in to win with an infinite combo or Imperial Recruiter combo to win the game. These combos are creature based, and are extremely reliant on Animar, Soul of Elements to have +1/+1 counters on the battlefield. Due to this, Animar needs to enter the battlefield asap -> followed by creatures -> Animar gain counters -> the deck can combo out. This deck runs a large number of cards with the only purpose of accelerating Animar out on turn 2.

The primary combos of the deck use Purphoros, God of the Forge, Walking Ballista, Oblivion Sower, or Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. If these combos fail, the deck can still win through combat damage from Animar. It only takes 21 commander damage to kill a player.

Duplicant and Gilded Drake can deal with creatures. Ainok Survivalist and Reclamation Sage can deal with artifacts and enchantments. Spellskite can deal with noncreature spells. Phyrexian Revoker and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger can deal with most permanents. Den Protector and Eternal Witness can recover combo pieces. Scavenging Ooze is for graveyard hate. Counterspell, Mana Drain, Muddle the Mixture, and Swan Song protect our combo.

Infinite Combos

1: Animar, Soul of Elements with enough counters, Ancestral Statue, and Purphoros, God of the Forge. Purphoros deals infinite damage to all opponents.

2: Earthcraft, Island, Shrieking Drake/Dream Stalker/Man-o'-War, and Purphoros, God of the Forge. Purphoros deals infinite damage to all opponents.

3: Animar, Soul of Elements with enough counters, Cloudstone Curio, 1 colorless creature/morph creature, and Oblivion Sower/Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. Exile all opponent's libraries, or exile every enemy permanent on the battlefield.

4: Animar, Soul of Elements with enough counters, Cloudstone Curio, any 2 colorless creatures/morph creatures face down, and Purphoros, God of the Forge. Purphoros deals infinite damage to all opponents. Animar gains infinite +1/+1 counters.

5: Animar, Soul of Elements with enough counters, Cloudstone Curio, 1 colorless creature/morph creature, Cloud of Faeries/Peregrine Drake/Beastcaller Savant, and Purphoros, God of the Forge. Purphoros deals infinite damage to all opponents. Animar gains infinite +1/+1 counters.

Other Combos

  1. Animar, Soul of Elements with enough counters and Palinchron creates infinite mana and counters on Animar.

  2. Once Animar, Soul of Elements has infinite counters, following it by casting Walking Ballista will allow you to end the game.

Imperial Recruiter Combo 1 (useful in multiplayer and 1v1)

Have ready and untapped from lands, and Animar, Soul of Elements with 3 +1/+1 counters. Cast Imperial Recruiter. Search for Phyrexian Metamorph. Cast metamorph copying Recruiter (pay 2 life), grab Fierce Empath, cast empath, search for Hoverguard Sweepers. Cast Hoverguard Sweepers, returning itself and Metamorph to hand. Cast Phyrexian Metamorph again (Pay 2 life), search for Peregrine Drake. Cast Drake, untapping 5 lands. From here, you can cast Peregrine Drake followed by casting Hoverguard Sweepers returning them both to hand, netting you infinite mana. With the infinite mana, you can cast Hoverguard Sweepers to return and cast Imperial Recruiter and Fierce Empath infinitely and cast the creatures you tutor, playing every creature in the deck above 6CMC and below 2 power. This gains counters on Animar the whole time.

Imperial Recruiter Combo 2 (useful in 1v1):

Have ready and Animar, Soul of Elements with 2 +1/+1 counters. Cast Imperial Recruiter. Search for Phyrexian Metamorph. Cast metamorph copying Recruiter (pay 2 life), grab a Shrieking Drake, Dream Stalker, or Man-o'-War. Cast the blue creature. Return metamorph to hand. Cast metamorph several times, copying the blue creature, returning metamorph to hand, paying 2 life each time, and Animar gaining +1/+1 counters until it can 1 shot someone. Cast metamorph last time, copy Recruiter, search for Fierce Empath. Cast Empath, search for Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. Exile one or two blockers. Swing in with Animar for lethal.

Cards for casting Animar on turn 2:
