General goals of this banlist. To actually play through games rather than have combos just end them as someone hits their solitaire. This leads to the next principle which are the tutor bans and number limits on non-demonic tutors, which is to prevent a deck from constantly searching up their engine and basically playing the same few cards over and over, so more diversity of play and strategy that decks need to rely on. In the absence of competitive spike and especially land destruction green ramp becomes a predominant strategy which is why you will see green bannings that might seem strange. One of the goals of this banlist is to diversify play and to achieve that it needs to restrict elements of green ramp, both in spells and generals.

Speed of play, this is why fetches are banned along with things like Senseis.

All demonic tutors are banned. Tutors that reveal cards are allowed with a soft limit of 3.

Ramp is banned.

Mana rocks banned.

Infinite combos banned. Especially ones that end games quickly but also aim is to ban infinite mana combos.

Cards above 50€ banned.

Land destruction. Single and multi targetting is fine but no one wants to play when the table gets fully blasted.

Lockouts. More general principle. If nothing is untapping it's not great to play, as in you don't get to play you get to sit there and do nothing. Winter orb.

Goal is to have a streamlined experience, so no constant tutoring and deck shuffling. This is why senseis and fetchlands are banned. Makes scry effects much more powerful and necessary. Crystal ball instead of senseis.

Sword of body and mind is banned because it's an auto include card into most decks that are below pure competitive but still have some spike to them.

Sylvan Library banned because it would be an auto include into every deck. Same for Rhystic Study, Sword of Feast and Famine, Smothering tithe, Mystic Remora, WorldGorger Dragon.

All demonic tutors are banned. Only 1 tutor per deck allowed if that tutor forces you to reveal the card you fetched.

Overwhelming stampede and other effects like it because it's essentially a meatramp deck combo card that ends games abruptly.

Dual lands are banned simply because of their price.

Fetch lands are banned because of game speed, to restrict the amount players search their libraries for. Reason fetch lands are only banned because of their price and their high usage rate resulting in a lot of library searching. Other fetches are allowed.

BANNED COMMANDERS

  • Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath. Simic is already an incredibly powerful midcore deck but then it gets a commander that just gives it even more of what it's already the best at, ramp and draw which are powerful when you aren't playing against actual competitive EDH decks. Doing just one of those would've been powerful but it does both which is just crazy.

  • Zacama, Primal Calamity. Basically an automatic extra turn commander.

  • Maelstrom Wanderer. Value engine, much like Zacama, incredible power and value.

  • Azusa, Lost but Seeking. Rofello's little sister, makes green ramp even crazier.

  • Animar, much like Zacama and Maelstrom except better as it's reliable turn 3 ramp.
