What fills opponents with more dread than stranger things in the night? Losing to mill voltron. Work in progress. Playtesting is required to fine tune the critical mass of cards required for each deck strategy.

General strategy is to use graveyard exile and mill to get Umbris into one-shot range as quickly as possible. Tasha's Hideous Laughter and Pyxis of Pandemonium are great examples of the type of cards the deck wants to utilize to this end. Trample, haste cards, and unblockable are used to make sure Umbris can connect- Swiftfoot Boots and Lightning Greaves do not give trample, so protection comes in the form of counterspells instead (which also serve more ways of protecting the strategy anyway). Clones copy commander or other horrors. Not in the deck, but Faceless Butcher + Wormfang Drake + a clone like Spark Double or Glasspool Mimic   combos out when Umbris, Fear Manifest is on the field.

Games with Umbris, Fear Manifest have proven to me that Umbris needs very little help becoming absolutely massive. Even just a single mass exile or mill spell along with Planar Void, Dauthi Voidwalker or Leyline of the Void on board means Umbris is immediately lethal. Forget commander damage- after a kicked Maddening Cacophony, he's bigger than any life totals. Keeping him on board is a bigger challenge than making him scary, so I've removed some of the less impactful cards to focus on keeping myself and Umbris around. I also removed the "win more" cards which were too expensive or only had value if Umbris was on the field.

Blade of Selves out, Captain N'ghathrod in. The Captain gives Umbris and all our other "utility" horrors menace, improving the value of cards like Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar and Whispering Madness. The mill effect will almost never matter for Umbris hitting a player (they're usually dead), but it gives all the other horrors in the deck more value as mill engines. The graveyard recursion should be a dead effect if things are going my way (Planar Void and friends remove them), but it gives an alternate game plan if opponents are removing graveyard exile effects or I haven't drawn any.

Helm of the Host and Rite of Replication out, Propaganda and Web of Inertia in. Both of these cards were win more, and the replacements keep me alive instead. Umbris is the only threat we really need.

Oblivion Sower and Sire of Stagnation out, Intellect Devourer and Silent Arbiter in. These replacements play to the deck's strengths better. Intellect Devourer synergizes with the horror utility and pumps our commander, and Silent Arbiter is another means of reducing table aggro.

Archive Trap and Glimpse the Unthinkable out, Irenicus's Vile Duplication and Force of Negation in. The extra targeted mill is not required, and Irenicus is a cheap way of doubling the attack potency of Umbris on a flying body. Umbris is often lethal even without commander damage required, so this is a cheap payoff for building his effect up. At worst, I can duplicate a value horror.

Psychic Surgery out, Zellix, Sanity Flayer in. More reliable effect that can serve as the same anti-tutor tech on a horror synergy body.

Rite of Consumption and Tainted Strike out, Toxic Deluge and Scheming Symmetry in. More board wipes were needed. Tainted strike is never necessary for Umbris to one shot someone in my experience. Scheming Symmetry is easy to break parity with the number of deck exile and mill effects the deck runs.

1x Swamp and 1x Island out, Cavern of Souls and Homeward Path in. Will have to see if the deck needs more basics, but can take out fetches for basics if needed.

Mystic Remora and Prismatic Lens out, Aboleth Spawn and Grell Philosopher in. These cards fill similar roles in the deck while synergizing with the horror subtheme. Aboleth Spawn can provide excellent value when copying any draw, removal, or ramp ETB effects, and Grell Philospher turning all horrors into Sol Ring for the turn makes for some crazy ramping. More bodies on board also mean more options for blocking if someone wants me dead.
