Greetings everyone, and welcome... to my Gishath decklist!

Gishath - Non Foil Decklist Price

I would like to thank you for coming here to look at my list! This deck has been a passion project for me since the Ixalan prerelease, and without further ado... the cards and why I chose them!

Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths and C20 just released and with them, new cards for Gishath and crew! Including, a long admired hero of mine! ♡

Gishath, Sun's Avatar, my big strong boi!

The goal of this deck is to get Gishath, Sun's Avatar as fast as possible and overwhelm the board with dinosaurs, and protect them, gotta save the park!

The Main Attractions (The Creatures)

This is my first ever decklist on here, please bear with me!

We'll go up the CMC of the creatures and I'll explain their purpose to the best of my ability!

Marauding Raptor

My only 2 drop Dino! It makes my creatures {1} less and pings my creatures 2 when they enter which can trigger enrage and pumps itself +2/+0 if any but 2 of my creatures enter the battlefield? A must have for any Dinosaur deck, and goes infinite with Polyraptor

The mighty 3 drops!

Atzocan Seer, 1 of my 2 non-dinosaur creatures! more importantly then the mana dork ability (which is very important) it also brings a dinosaur back from my grave to hand. and since it's a sacrifice ability you can do this anytime, very useful when someone tries to wipe the board. And on your turn you can tap, float the mana you need, sac Atzocan Seer and get the Dino you need from your grave.

Deathgorge Scavenger, our grave hate dinosaur! While it may be weaker toughness wise if someone is playing from the grave this card is very useful, give it haste and you can trigger it twice! How nice!

Kinjalli's Sunwing, one of my few flyers but also acts as a pseudo Thalia, Heretic Cathar, while it only does creature it's still very useful, especially when other people play creatures with haste.

Ranging Raptors, my most dangerous creature, because no one ever blocks it! If it takes damage I get to grab any basic land from deck and have it enter the field tapped. A little on the slow side but ramp is ramp!

Thrashing Brontodon, a 3/4 for 3 is pretty good, but that pay {1} sac to pop an artifact or enchantment is very useful for politics.

Wayward Swordtooth, a 5/5 for 3 that let's you play an additional land? Where's the downside? Well, it can't attack or block unless you have the City's Blessing, but I'd hardly call that a downside.

4 CMC Creatures

Forerunner of the Empire, the other non-dino creature! While not a mana dork a Tutor for any dinosaur and triggers enrage by pinging every creature for 1, not just mine put everyones, easily kills 1/1s. Playing this while Gishath, Sun's Avatar is already out on the field gives you any dinosaur you need at that moment.

Raging Regisaur, while it doesn't have any keyword, the ability to ping any target, trigger my enrage, kill a 1/1, someone is 1 damage off from death. I really like this card!

Shifting Ceratops, can't be countered? Great! Pro Blue? Useful! And with ability to pay a {G} and give it your chois of reach, trample, or haste? Shucks, if you have enough mana you can do all 3! And it's a 5/4 wowiee!

Ripjaw Raptor, this lovely raptor has pretty good stats as a 4/5 but has the very lovely effect whenever it takes damage I draw a card, much easier to trigger then Runic Armasaurs conditional trigger I've found.

5 CMC Creatures

Raging Swordtooth, a 5/5 trampler that when it enter's pings every creature for 1, trigger's enrage and kills 1/1s on the board.

Regisaur Alpha, other Dinosaurs I control have haste is pretty nice to have, especially if I get an additional combat. Also a 3/3 Trample token is not bad too.

Temple Altisaur, a 3/4 for 5 is slightly underwhelming, but giving all my other dinosaurs pseudo indestructible is huge! Swing of block without a care! Just don't swing with this one, it potecc.

Trapjaw Tyrant, one of my favorites! A lot of my friends call it Banisher Priest on a stick. Which is weird, because Banisher is already a creature, but whatever. Have a way to ping this dino, swing at people with little blockers, or keep it as a blocker, and exile any creature without hexproof or shroud!

Quartzwood Crasher, the first new card from Ikoria! For 5 mana, you get a 6/6 with trample, in a vacuum that is good! And whenever any of my 14 creatures with trample deal damage to a player I make another X/X trample dinosaur where X is the total life they lost? This card is a house!

Zilortha, Strength Incarnate. Our. First. Godzilla card. ♡. And what a card to start with! The card might say it's a 7/3, but in reality it's a 7/7, as is Gishath, Sun's Avatar, and makes quite a few of my other dinosaurs bigger! Love this card!

6 CMC Creatures

Carnage Tyrant, can't be countered, trample, hexproof, 7/6? Yes. Please. The standard all-star always had a home in my Dino deck.

Etali, Primal Storm, finally our first Elder Dinosaur! but it only costs 6 mana, how good could it be? what I tell people is, it's as good as you're opponent's deck! Whenever Etali, Primal Storm attacks, you exile the top card of everyones deck, you're inculuded, and just cast any nonland card for free! the cards are even cast before damage, somone exile a pump spell great! Tutor? great! Combo card? Don't cast it. Triumph of the Hordes? Delicious.

Regal Behemoth, what an amazing lizard! I mean Dinosaur! The only erratad creature I run it's that good! 5/5 trample that introduces the monarchy when it enters and lands tap for an additional mana of any color so long as you're the monarch. And you draw a card at the beginning your end step!

7 CMC Creatures

Goring Ceratops, a 3/3 for 7? That's kinda lame. Oh, it has double strike? okay so that's like 6 power, neat I guess. When it attacks all other attacking creatures I control get double strike? This card is a bomb! Gishath, Sun's Avatar for 14?

Rampaging Brontodon, what a card, I love this card as a 7/7 trampler for 7 is really fair, but when it attacks it get +1/+1 for each land you control? If you have no mana acceleration and just lands, plop this guy down, even if you miss you land for turn next turn it's swinging for 14, and if you have multiple combats it just double for each combat!

Silverclad Ferocidons, this is another of my favorites! An 8/5 for 7 is pretty strong, power wise, but when it takes damage, each opponent sacs a permanent, creatures, rocks, enchantments, walkers, lands?

Verdant Sun's Avatar, gaining life equal to their toughness is a nice plus, it helps us stay in the game! Especially in game 2 when when we get focused!

Yidaro, Wandering Monster, a bigger, better, Charging Monstrosaur. It even has a lovely cycling ability that shuffles itself back into the deck as opposed to being discarded. Gives us a draw early game, and if you happen to cycle it 4 times you get it the board! A really fun card! And the Godzilla alter is Shin Godzilla from the appropriately named film, "Shin Godzilla", aside from be being a Godzilla fan this movie is fantastic and gets a full recommendation from me!

8 CMC Creatures

Polyraptor, my first, and favorite infinite combo! I combo this with AEther Flash to create a stalemate, no winners, no losers, just a draw. I used to also play Warstorm Surge to make it a win... I might revisit it one day.

Wakening Sun's Avatar, this is a dinosaur I'd rather not cheat out, if it comes out through Gishath, Sun's Avatar, you do get a free 7/7 but that's it. No key word no activated abilities, but that cast, ETB, destroy all non-Dinosaurs can be huge, and is way more helpful then not.

Zetalpa, Primal Dawn, another Elder Dinosaur! And this one is crazy on paper and in execution! People call it "keyword soup" for good reason, what doesn't it have? Haste? Okay, sure, but that's easy enough to give it. Then what else? Skulk? Menace? ... Infect? Can't be too greedy... or can you?

9 CMC Creatures

Apex Altisaur, my only non-foil Dinosaur... oh well. This. Card. Slaps. Hard! It fights up to, let me say it again for the people in the back... UP TO one target creature you don't control, and when it takes damage you fight UP TO one more creature to fight, each time you fight, and you can stop the fighting whenever you like! That's the beauty of "up to"! Fight till it takes 9, then pass and let it heal, or have Temple Altisaur out and just wipe the board!

Titanoth Rex, this just another big Dino, an 11/11 trampler for 9 is actually pretty great all things considered! And it has cycling, but I dont think I'll ever use that ability. And our last Godzilla alter is a classic Heisei Era Godzilla, may he destroy this LGS last.

Zacama, Primal Calamity, similar to Wakening Sun's Avatar, i'd prefer to cast it, to untap all my lands as it is a cast, ETB trigger, but I'll still happily slam it down when I see it through Gishath, Sun's Avatar triggers, being able to sustain life, blow up enchantments or artifacts, even bolt creatures! It even has vigilance, reach, and trample! Let's see a Dino like this in Jurassic World 3!

Big Kahuna

The Big Kahuna is finally here! A 12/12 trampler for 12 mana!... I have never cast Ghalta, Primal Hunger for more then 2 green mana. It's that good a card, and with all the reprints it's cheap too!

The Only Planeswalker

This is a spot I mess around with a lot. I've tried many others before Huatli, Warrior Poet, Nahiri, the Harbinger, Samut, the Tested, Domri Rade, Elspeth, Knight-Errant, Vivien Reid. I'm currently trying out Domri, Anarch of Bolas, in place of Vivien Reid.

Domri, Anarch of Bolas, costs 2 less mana wise, passive ability makes all my dinos hit harder, ramps a mana, makes my creatures un-counterable, and acts as removal. I just recently put this in and I'm excited to see it in games!

Vivien Reid, is great! She helps filter the top of the deck by grabbing a land or a creature, destroys artifacts, enchantments, and flyers (which I admittedly have a problem against), and that ultimate..., giving all my creatures +2/+2 vigilance, trample, and indestructible! I used her for a very long time.

And now, we got a new planeswalker with Vivien, Monsters' Advocate! She might seem bad at a glance, costing 5 and only has 3 starting loyalty, but trust. Her static ability is really good, I wouldn't see myself abusing it too much unless I had haste enablers, or 1 of my 2 humans. The +1 is great, I just wish it made dinosaurs, but all jokes aside, being able to make a great body to protect Vivien, Monsters' Advocate is very helpful, can even make a 3/3 Trample beast to help our new friend Quartzwood Crasher! Now, her -2 is what we are really looking at, ideally you would want to wait until you cast something CMC 8 or higher, especially nice when we cast our Commander Gishath, Sun's Avatar! I'll be letting you all know when I pull the trigger and get a foil showcase and try it out!

Utility Lands

Show

Lands are lands, they tap for mana and they let us cast our spells, I will just be covering the utility lands I have chosen to run and why I run them.

Cavern of Souls

The most important land in any tribal deck IMO. Nothing feels worse then tapping 8, casting Gishath, Sun's Avatar, and then it gets countered. Playing against blue is never fun (Blue is probably my favorite color), but Cavern of Souls makes playing against blue a breeze! I know this card is pricey, but remember...

Pay (mana) to Win

Kessig Wolf Run, Rogue's Passage, Slayers' Stronghold, and Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion all serve a very similar purpose. Pay mana to activate an ability, and 1 creature gets the benefit. Ideally we dump them into Gishath, Sun's Avatar, although I do like to use card:Slayer's Strongold on creature's without haste that could really use it, mostly Etali, Primal Storm, or the other elders.

These cards are even fun for political purposes by giving the ability to your opponent's the benefits

Strip Mine

There is almost always, a Maze of Ith, Kor Haven, Thaumatic Compass  , or Glacial Chasm and with the new Labyrinth of Skophos coming out in Theros: Beyond Death, ensuring we get damage in with Gishath, Sun's Avatar by any means is key, you can also of course just destroy any other problematic lands.

Instants Faster Than Any Meteor

Show

Removal

Swords to Plowshares, and Path to Exile, are both primo 1 mana removal spells, they both exile to get around indestructible creatures, and remeber to let your opponent know they may search for a basic tapped with Path to Exile!

Protection

Heroic Intervention, Teferi's Protection, and Flawless Maneuver. Different names, different effects, same result. they all protect your board from board wipes and targeted removal. Heroic Intervention gives hexproof to our permanents for spot removal, Flawless Maneuver is literally free so long as Gishath, Sun's Avatar is out and gives all our creatures indestructibl! And Teferi's Protection protects us and our creatures for a whole round of turns!

Savage Beating

My highest mana Instant, and my cheekiest one too. You can only cast it on your combat, but the effects are devastating. You can give your creatures double strike, or have an additional combat, or you can do both for only 2 more mana! Normally if you cast this, you should be winning that turn.

Sorceries and You

Show

Ramp

You might have noticed a lack of signets, Fellwar Stone, Arcane Signet, etc. I feel that mana fixing rocks are not needed when you're in green. Farseek, Nature's Lore, Rampant Growth, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach, Skyshroud Claim, and Three Visits, all fantastic ramp spells, and the best part of running green.

Board Wipes

Wrath of God is a tired and true board wipe, Destroy All Humans, uhh I mean Creatures. They Can't be Regenerated. I've tried other damage based board wipes like Blasphemous Act, and Star of Extinction and I found relying on damage to trigger my enrage isn't as good as just killing all creatures. I tend to only cast this if I am behind however. I might go back using Day of Judgment since I have some Regeneration in the deck.

Winds of Abandon is probably my favorite card from Modern Horizons. Sure, it's a 2 mana Path to Exile (except they have to search, not a may) at sorcery speed, but you can overload it for 4 more mana and it exiles everything you don't own, you may be giving you're opponent's a lot of lands (tapped I might add), but while the walls are down swing away!

Extra Combat

The last build of this deck was focused on extra combats but I have switched it making sure my Dinosaurs last. but I still have 2 Extra combat cards! 1 being Savage Beating which we already covered, the other being... Waves of Aggression! I opted for this one over cards like Aggravated Assault, World at War, etc. because this one is recurrable, even if it gets countered with the lovely Retrace ability, so long as we have a land in hand we can discard a land to cast Waves of Aggression, after paying the mana cost of course!

Value

These are just cards I love and are very powerful. Finale of Devastation lets us tutor deck and/or grave for one creature less then or equal to the mana we dump in it, do it late game for {10} or more and it becomes a blow out! Rishkar's Expertise, is crazy good card draw that also lets us cheat out a card 5 CMC or less. Finally, we have Selvala's Stampede, I saw my friend play this all the time and that it was great... then I read it and it's incredible! In short, every player chooses "Hand" or "Deck", for every "Deck" vote, you reveal until you find a creature, at 6 mana we should have most of the little guys out by now, and each "Hand" vote let's us play a Permanent for free.

Enchantments

Show

Mirari's Wake

Mirari's Wake is a lovely enchantment that makes my creature's stronger and lands tap for double (produced, can't tap Command Tower for {G} {W}, only 2 of the same.

Haste Enablers

Being able to make sure my Dinos can roam free as soon they hit the table is too good to ignore, and if we happen to get extra combats, even better!Fires of Yavimaya gives all my creatures haste and can sac to give a creature +2/+2, good for more damage or protection.

Rhythm of the Wild has 3 amazing uses, my creature's can't be countered, makes my Dinos fast, and the ones with haste already just get bigger. Love this card!

Enter the Battlefield Triggers

Rhythm of the Wild is also an ETB enchantment, but we already covered it. The other two are AEther Flash, and Aura Shards, AEther Flash trigger's my enrage Dinos, and help me go infinite with Polyraptor, it also has a side benefit of killing little guys with toughness 2 or less the my opponents might play. Aura Shards, is our artifact/enchantment removal whenever a creature enters.

Asceticism

Asceticism gives all our creatures Hexproof for 5 mana, wow! And you can pay 2 regenerate any creature, normally your own of course, but also a fun political piece if we're behind!

Fossils (Artifacts)

Show

Mana Rocks

Sol Ring, and Mana Vault both 1 mana, gives me more mana to drop Gishath, Sun's Avatar earlier. Just don't cast Mana Vault with nothing to do or else it might get destroyed, and that just feels bad.

Equipment

Lightning Greaves, and Swiftfoot Boots, almost do the same thing, give an equipped creature haste, and some form of protection, either hexporoof or shroud. Shroud doesn't really bother me since the only thing that really targets is Fires of Yavimaya.

Explaining the Maybeboard!

The "Maybe Board" consists of cards I used to run, and might revisit in the future and currently have in my binder. Smothering Tithe might seem like really odd card to leave out, but hear me out... I currenty have no way of tutoring it, I might add it back when I get Enlightened Tutor, or if a Dinosaur ever tutors for a Enchantment upon entering the battlefield, come on WotC throw me a bone here! Anyways, I have to rely on drawing it naturally, of have it in my opening hand, if that happens, cards incredible to say the least. If however you draw it late game, it's probaly going to get answered right away if it even resolves, and if it does stay on the board you get focused down harder then someone who plays turn 1 Sol Ring.

Elemental Bond. I have never actually run this card before, but bought a foil just in case. As with Smothering Tithe no way to tutor it for early game, and if I get it late game it might be dead draw as I try to get most of my creatures out as fast as possible also feels bad if we draw one of our high CMC Dinosuars when we play our Commander. But I do know this is an amazing card, and I will let you know if i ever add it to the deck.

Pyrohemia, I love this card, it's a gorgeous card and very fun. it will ensure I get my enrage triggers, kills chump blockers, and even has the ability to kill opponents. I've been thinking a lot about this card recently and want to find a spot to put it in, but adding 6 cards recently was the hardest thing I had to do in 2020 so far. I play games with my decks to see what is under performing or feeling the weakest, but I feel I'm at a happy point with my deck right now.

Vivien Reid is a planeswalker I covered in my "The Only Planeswalker" section, but to run by it again real quick, it lets us dig the top 4 for a land or creature as +1, her -3 is removal for artifacts, enchantments, and flyers, which I deeply appreciate. And her ultimate at -8 wins the game.
