I've got a very tiny bone to pick with you

Commander / EDH Discard Group Slug Mono-Black

Maybeboard

Have you ever looked at a group-hug deck and said, "Gross. I wish I could be like that, but horrible." That's what I imagine Tinybones thought, and so I present the group-mug Tinybones EDH.

Thanks to TypicalTimmy for the title and the motivation. It's TINYBONES, AND THEY'RE MY FAVORITE.*

Discard for value, discard for burn, and also infinite mana (Umbral Mantle + Magus of the Coffers) so you can immediately nuke anyone who is unfortunate enough to have no cards in hand. The categories speak for themselves, with special emphasis on discard effects that go off on opponent's turns, since Tinybones triggers every end step.

I have an extra LotV lying around; I don’t think it’s crucial to the build, but it is nice. However, this list represents what I have, and there are a few big upgrades you can make to increase consistency&power.

This is meant to be competitive in high-power casual EDH, probably a power level of 6-8 (though I'm not that up-to-date on the power level stuff). If you're looking for decks that are tuning for the cEDH meta, try TINYBONES: TINY PUNISHER (Mono-Black Stax) or Tinybones, Discard-Stax-Control-Combo!

The deck can function without these $15+ expensive cards:
Liliana of the Veil -> Unnerve
Phyrexian Tower -> Swamp
Deadly Rollick -> Any instant-speed removal
Toxic Deluge -> Languish, Phyrexian Scriptures, etc.
Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth -> Swamp
No Mercy -> Additional boardwipe or removal

If you're going to build Tinybones, I would mostly suggest shelling out for or proxying the "Enemy-Turn Discard" effects, the most expensive being Anvil of Bogardan (thanks to Tinybones, lol), and the "Rack" win-cons in Megrim and Liliana's Caress. Other than those slots, this is a really flexible shell and you can make budget considerations wherever you need them.

Yes, you should probably run it. But I hate it.
The deck has some GY interaction, but here are a few additional cards you can slot in for GY hate if your opponents are benefiting too much from your discard. Remember to try to cut from the Utility slot first before any of the engine slots.

Erebos's Intervention > Murderous Rider
Nezumi Graverobber > Gray Merchant of Asphodel
Phyrexian Scriptures > Crux of Fate
Leyline of the Void > Command the Dreadhorde
Planar Void > Okiba-Gang Shinobi

If you have friends who will play with you, you can easily make this into more of a Stax deck by swapping the weaker "My Turn Discard" effects for tutors and Stax pieces. I'd start here:

1) Make the upgrades I mentioned above.

2) Take out Okiba-Gang Shinobi, Hypnotic Specter, Delirium Skeins, Cavern Whisperer, Mind Rake, Raven's Crime, Rotting Rats, The Eldest Reborn, and Liliana's Specter for these Stax pieces: Cursed Totem/Torpor Orb, Nether Void, Mana Web, Tangle Wire, Contamination, Ensnaring Bridge, Torment of Hailfire, Bitterblossom, and Dreadhorde Invasion.

3) Replace Crux of Fate, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, Command the Dreadhorde, and Curse of Fool's Wisdom with Imperial Seal, Diabolic Intent, whichever of Demonic Tutor and Vampiric Tutor that you didn't swap in for Beesech the Queen, and Dark Ritual.

You can then tweak from there to match your playgroup's level, whether it's adding fast mana or taking out the expensive tutors. For further cuts, always look to upgrade the Utility section or take out the weaker "My Turn Discard" cards - don't touch "Enemy Turn Discard."

It could be a fun Stax build, but keep in mind you're trading lots of draw and discard triggers for a more consistent and controlling deck.

For more of a discussion on the Stax build, check out Tinybones - Ultimate Discard.

You can also build this with more of a sacrifice subtheme. I'm not 100% on the build since you'd need to refocus slightly more on creature generation - probably Bitterblossom and Dreadhorde Invasion type effects - but here are some strong synergies:

Liliana, Heretical Healer
Mind Slash
Black Cat
Nezumi Bone-Reader
Sadistic Hypnotist
Grave Pact
Dictate of Erebos
Smallpox

This has the added benefit of making your Tinybones harder to steal or otherwise mess with.

*Tinybones is an enby and you can't convince me otherwise. Tinybones is also the MTG equivalent of Gideon Nav, so they are also a nonbinary lesbian. I don't make the rules.

Finally got to sleeve this up and play a game with my roommates. I'm happy to say that Tinybones worked like a charm - an early Bottomless Pit and Lightning Greaves kept the gravy train rolling. They also dealt 30 damage in activations, which was fun.

Unfortunately it also made me a big target, and between the life loss from Tinybones, Asylum Visitor, and Gibbering Descent plus attacks from opponents, I was first to bleed out. There's already incidental lifegain and sweepers in the deck, but I didn't draw any, so I need a bit more. I added some options to my Maybeboard to try out. Of those, I think the Dread Presence and Languish will be the first ones I slot in, for Umbral Mantle and Geth's Grimoire. The latter was too expensive to play and I never really needed the extra cards. I also think Dead of Winter is a very good idea if I swap out the Swamps for snow-covered versions, but I gotta get a bunch of them first. Once I do, I'll probably swap it in for Crux of Fate, which was a little too expensive and, randomly, people tend to have a few dragons hanging out.

Twilight Prophet is also an interesting idea, though it's a big old target for opponents' removal and I don't currently have a copy, so it'll probably wait. If I had one, I might try it in the spot of Rankle, Master of Pranks.
