Elspeth's Nightmare

Enchantment — Saga

(As this Saga enters and after your draw step, add a lore counter. Sacrifice this Saga after III.)

— Destroy target creature an opponent controls with power 2 or less.

— Target opponent reveals their hand. You choose a noncreature, nonland card from it. That player discards that card.

— Exile target opponent's graveyard/

(This kinda goes against the saga idea a little bit, but not totally in the grand scheme either.)

Trinket Mage: this guy right here can fetch up your Hex Parasite and the later suggestions of Welding Jar or perhaps one of the new artifact lands that came out in mh2.

Welding Jar: cheap protection for your hex parasite and power conduit.

As far as overall goes, I feel like you could do better as a blue/black combination than a blue/white. You would lose your wrath effects, but gain better control options in things like The Eldest Reborn and Elspeth's Nightmare.

If you do want to stay u/w then Hall of Heliod's Generosity might be worth looking into.

Hmm maybe Elspeth's Nightmare? Removal + duress + grave hate.

If you're not flush with Planeswalkers, big-bodied fliers, or persistent threats are good options to swap in. Dream Trawler , or Shark Typhoon or Voracious Greatshark , or any of those. Brazen Borrower would be super strong in here. Elspeth's Nightmare and Elspeth Conquers Death would be solid. Realm-Cloaked Giant , Extinction Event would be good in here. Zendikar spell-lands could add versatility, but make sure to preserve the Snow-core.

Elspeth's Nightmare is a great sideboard card. Might even be main-deckable in some metas

After so many people arguing in favor of white's removal suite being the best it's interesting that you pick a deck with primarily non-white removal. It runs almost 100% mono-black removal and some mono blue counters.

Actually proving the point of how bad even White's removal is currently.

And it controls the board state with nearly all mono black cards.

And it's creature suite does include Skyclave Apparition.

I mentioned Skyclave Apparition on another thread about White's current state as being one of the only good new cards in White. And since it's basically a weaker version of Oblivion Ring with legs it's nothing new or interesting for White.

Here is a sample of a Top8 Esper Doom deck not even using White for removal. Which is typical for this deck archetype.

The main deck removal is nearly all black and blue: Hagra Mauling  Flip, Eliminate, Negate, Heartless Act, Elspeth's Nightmare & Extinction Event.

I would argue that if Yorion, Sky Nomad didnt have White in it's casting cost, then the White splash probably would be a different color. You can't be serious using this as an example of how strong White is?

I've piloted a bunch of b/x discard over the years.

Lurrus/Kroxa/Unearth is a really nice package, but you will have some difficulty fueling the graveyard. I like the Bolt devil interaction, but it will need a little more to support it. Its worth looking at Cabal Therapist lists to see how other people were trying to make a similar package work.

Quick fix; Vilage rites is unlikely to give the card advantage you need. Swap for some draw/discard - Stitcher's Supplier or similar, so that you can lurrus it.

Longer fix; plan a sideboard. Rogue brews get a vast advantage from pre-sideboarding against the meta, and giving up bad matchups entirely with sideboard slots dedicated elsewhere. Discard likes maindeck Surgical Extraction to mess up key pieces of tron. Davriel, Rogue Shadowmage is good. You need to be exiling their graveyard regularly, so stuff like Elspeth's Nightmare is worth considering.

Mausoleum Secrets and a black 'answer' package could go a long way in this deck, and let you have a thinner sideboard spread.

Jund wants to get into a topdeck war just like you, the battle is keeping them off of value engines. That means surgicaling things before they reccur them, and keeping them off answers to affliction. Some cards like Sea Gate Wreckage can help, if you improve your manabase to support it. Specific hand pruning like Thoughtseize or its budget cousins will go a long way, letting you avoid their 2 for 1's. Exactly how you approach the matchup will depend on which flavour of jund - and as a rogue brew, you get the advantage of building just for them.

FunnyDuck Thanks much for the suggestions and the upvote! If I'm reading it right, you suggest the deck should shore up in these areas:

1) GY control, either through reanimation or exile.

2) Commander control, through sac effects.

3) Additional ramp.

Plus the recommendation of Liliana, Heretical Healer  Flip, which I appreciate because she was my favorite card of Origins. I spent so much money on drafts trying to pull her, and I was so mad I just kept getting the (then $7) Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip...

ANYWAY. Lots of good points. I will say it's tough with an "engine" deck like this one to add additional utility without sacrificing consistency. It's just SO BAD if you have out the Megrim effects and then stop drawing gas. As much as possible I'm trying to make the utility and win-con effects overlap with other synergies, like Madness, or else stick it in the land slot, like Bojuka Bog.

For category 1), I definitely like Scavenger Grounds, and maybe: Elspeth's Nightmare, Phyrexian Scriptures, Nezumi Graverobber, Shred Memory (which can tutor for either a Your-Turn Discard or a Liliana's Caress) or Erebos's Intervention?

It's also worth noting that one could just build this deck without any GY interaction and run Leyline of the Void and Planar Void.

For 2), I'm not convinced that the deck can't run without Tinybones, since there are other ways to break parity in both the discard selection and in the extra Draw Engines. Tinybones is also really easy to recast through Commander Tax, so the real problem is being stolen. I'm thinking maybe just running a Homeward Path and Phyrexian Tower and maybe Endless Sands, which also works with Scavenger Grounds. If I'm running these colorless/non-Swamp lands I should probably throw in Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth.

3) In playtesting, I haven't found much of a need for more ramp (especially because I usually want to cast Tinybones on t2), but if I do, it will probably be Coldsteel Heart or Mana Vault.

I would really love to run that Liliana, but without adding more sacrifice effects, I don't think I can pull it off. That's definitely one way to build the deck, though.

Thanks again! I'll make some changes now and what I don't make room for now, I'll add to a recommendations section on card selections if you're facing GY decks, steal decks, etc.
