Angel Tribal

v1 Published

This deck brings out a lot of strong Angels and will cheat them out in various ways: Bruna herself, Karmic Guide , Windbrisk Heights , Adarkar Valkyrie , Brought Back , Emeria, The Sky Ruin , Reya Dawnbringer . In addition to high base power/toughness, many of the Angels have effects that will remove threats -- Angel of Serenity , Angel of Sanctions , Sunblast Angel , Fiend Hunter -- and slow down other decks -- Angelic Arbiter , Archangel of Tithes , Linvala, Keeper of Silence . Avacyn, Angel of Hope , Sephara, Sky's Blade , and Aegis Angel will protect your creatures from typical destruction. Mother of Runes and Eight-and-a-Half-Tails can protect your creatures from targeted (non-colorless) removal.

The primary win condition of this deck is to tutor out (or naturally draw) Gisela and meld her with Bruna. Brisela is highly challenging for many decks to deal with if she resolves. Gisela can be tutored via Thalia's Lancers or Citanul Flute . The lancers have 3-4 good targets after Gisela is in-hand or on the board, and the flute can be re-used to tutor anything. You will quickly want to protect Gisela with indestructability. If you know someone at the table has Swords to Plowshares (or another exile-based removal), it is very important that you are able to kill your own Gisela in response. Generous Gift , Unexpectedly Absent , Unstable Obelisk , or protection from color are your options in this deck, and sacrifice outlet is another option that is not currently in the deck.

After Brisela resolves, destruction-based removal is recoverable, and exile-based removal is generally not. In particular, Descend upon the Sinful, False Prophet, and Final Judgement will hose this win condition, although I have not seen anyone running these cards yet.

Winning without Brisela is still possible. For example, a miracle'd Entreat the Angels with Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and Avacyn, Angel of Hope on the board can be pretty overwhelming.

Lifegain is a minor theme in this deck. Seraph Sanctuary , Angel of Vitality , and Lifelink are the primary sources of healing. Brisela, Voice of Nightmares , Sephara, Sky's Blade , and Gisela, the Broken Blade are the only Lifelink sources.

The artifacts in this deck are mostly for ramp and card draw, as white does neither of these things especially well. The enchantments in this deck are generally for creature protection.
