Why Ghave?

When I first saw Ghave, Guru of Spores I wasn't sure what to think. He seemed like he had relevant abilities, was in my top three favorite colors (), has tokens (Saproling/Saproling/Saproling), can interact with death effects (Grave Pact/Blood Artist/Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest), and has amazing combo cards (Utopia Mycon/Hardened Scales/Cathars' Crusade).

So I decided to try my hand at it, and so far I am loving it to death! Build-a-combo is generally interesting as no game plays out entirely the same. I hope you don't think my deck is Junk.

Ghave's steps for succulent saprolings.

Seeding your Mana. Show

To start out, Ghave, Guru of Spores needs mana, so you're gonna want to Cultivate some from the Far Wanderings of your deck. Soon your side of the field will be a Myriad Landscape with multiple colors spanning the Endless Horizons.

If you're short on mana, there are some great boosters available to Ghave to harvest on the Black Market, such as Ashnod's Altar and Utopia Mycon. Alternatively, putting your saprolings to work with Cryptolite Rite also helps your cause.

Sowing sinister combos. Show

Find one of the many cheap and efficient utilities that Ghave has many who can help him in his Time of Need. Gain excessive life with Soul Warden! Conjure up a neverending mist with Spike Weaver! Turn your Gyre Sage from a mana dork into a mana queen! Appease the underworld by enforcing the Dictate of Erebos! Skullclamp a handful of unsuspecting plants and draw more cards than you probably should! The possibilities all seek out eachother in an intricate swarm of saprolings.

Larger drops are where things usually get out of hand, like when you just Mycoloth'd 5 tokens for 10 more a turn, Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest bumps your dudes up each time anyone sacrifices anything, your mana gets reset constantly by Seedborn Muse, or your deck gets imbued with Primal Vigor.

Activating the button. Show

Once you get Ghave out with a enablers, you can use his ability to smash tokens on the field. Some are simple, like Young Wolf being an undying bag of saproling fertilizer, some are complicated, like using Grave Pact to help Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest boost your field, and some are infinite, like Primal Vigor and Ashnod's Altar lighting up your counters, creature tokens, and mana pool.

It may seem that your multiple options each turn are an Overwhelming Stampede on the strategies you have.

All in all, make your move when Ready / Willing, for the creatures at your disposal are more than Ready / Willing to traverse the Perilous Forays.
