"Esper Gain Life Do Stuff Guy"

This is a competitive Esper midrange deck, drifting away from the traditional Zur deck. We use our incremental life gain throughout the game to not only stay alive in my creature heavy meta, but also give us the necessary padding and triggers we need for our game ending combos. It's an adaptive deck, able to play either the long grind, with enough countermagic and removal to hold the table in check, or race for the combo finish. (Over 90% of wins come by t6, a little less than half goldfish t4 or sooner).

Your life total is a resource for this deck, and it exploits it to its fullest, running cards like Ad Nauseam, Necropotence, and the decks namesake, Bolas' Citadel. We use the incremental life gain given to us by our Commander's passive effect to continue to grind the most value out of these cards as possible.

The main combo lines are through Citadel: Aetherflux Reservoir + Bolas's Citadel + Sensei's Divining Top , Bolas's Citadel + Mana Severance + Sensei's Divining Top , Bolas's Citadel + Doomsday . Topdeck tutors are also incredibly strong in this deck, especially with Citadel on the field, as a single topdeck tutor ripped off the top usually leads to a win in the same turn.

This deck is primarily a fast combo deck, looking to assemble either a Citadel line, or Demonic Consultation + Thassa's Oracle , within the first four to six turns of the game. Although this deck is running its share of interaction, and can usually answer interaction and force its combo through, its also incredibly resilient in the long game, able to control the board before winning through attrition.

The first few turns are typically filled with either ramping mana, tutoring for one of our many wincons, or interacting with the table so that we cam pull a win in the late game.
