Mono Green Lands

Canadian Highlander

Maybeboard

Taking a swing at a mono green lands deck, just seeing if I can come up with enough playables first, then if I can, trimming down to a deck.

Points: Fast Bond, Sol Ring, Strip Mine for 6. Considering Natural Order and Summoner's Pact since I've freed up points by dropping the mox.

Starting with the deck Serge used at GP Vancouver last month, Jeremy White's design if I understand correctly, so credit there for the start of this. This is my first "real" Canadian highlander deck.

I went with mono green because this cuts down on 90% of the cards from Jeremy's list I don't have, primarily the fetches and duals. Makes the deck 2-300+ cheaper, and while it goes down all the direct damage and sweeper removal, it still has it's land based defenses and lots of punch. The added cards that I went with hasn't added that much to the cost of the deck as well. At $470~ I think this definitely qualifies as a budget highlander deck, but I can't claim it's good yet, not having the opportunity to test it.

So, making it mono green means I have to accept being down a lot of removal. I still have the usual lands package of defence, maze and chasm. Other than that, Sylvan uprising turns the existing ramp and the ramp I've added into both a fog and a potential kill spell. Storm cauldron is a bit of a soft prison card that works as a combo piece with most of the deck and is a one sided symmetrical effect in this deck due to the abundance of land drops. At 5 mana, it's actually very easily cast on turn 3 in this deck, and cloudstone curio serves a similar purpose. Notably, because zuran orb, crucible, excavator and fastbond are already in the deck, I included sunscorched desert in my utility lands package as another win con. Besides that I just padded the deck out with ramp, a couple more creature tutors and some finishers. If you have anything to say hit me up, I'd love to know if there are any cards that I definitely should cut, or what. I don't have a playgroup in town so I will be waiting a long time to actually test this out in paper.

Suggestions

Updates Add

Shifted to a midrange strategy with more resilient threats. Removed all the 3 and 4 mana ramp spells in favour of cards like Thrun, nylea and others. Cards changed stayed with lands theme as much as possible. While goldfishing, most games run into lethal/game ending territory on turn 5ish, with a tonne of life gain to keep you alive, this deck might be viable.
