Cache Raiders Discussion

Akkrand on Zedruu the Dickish

Celestial Dawn no longer screws non-white players - they can generate white mana, so all it does it fix all their mana.

Wouldn't a player just return the Cache Raiders to your hand?

Crown of Doom can't be given back to you, but your opponents can keep trading it amongst themselves, which helps when the owner of it dies, as it will remember past states and take longer to 'come home'.

I agree that you need a bunch of ramp - you want to have mana free to give things away.

How about Goblin Spymaster, keeping it until your next turn then giving it to an opponent, Cache Raiders, Cephalid Vandal, or maybe Form of the Dragon?

I would love to see something along the lines of Cache Raiders, Reality Strobe, or Riptide Chimera to keep Constellation triggers going each upkeep. And perhaps play Asceticism to give your creatures hexproof? With any of the three bounce spells above you could also run Panharmonicon to cause extra constellation triggers and go with Laboratory Maniac to go as an extra win condition?

Cache Raiders is only good if you have ETB effects. Right not it really just looks like a vanilla 4/4 for 5. All in all I would say this deck doesn't have a lot of punch. What you need is Collected Company :P. The strength is its ability to slip past blockers. If you don't mind spending just a tad more, there's a few cards that give all merfolks +1/+1. That would up the power level a crap ton. Merrow Reejerey isn't too expensive. There's also Lord of Atlantis and Master of the Pearl Trident.

PookandPie on Oloro the out there

Oloro is in your title, but you used the plural of deck in your comment. Do you want more than just Oloro combos?

Also, what kind of combos are you looking for? You say degenerate, but that varies by playgroup. Most combos the average player considers degenerate are garbage, competitively, and typically the best 'combo' at tables with powerful decks and knowledgeable players is A Good Deck + Ad Nauseam or Doomsday, or something. So, because I don't know what you're looking for and you gave practically 0 information to make suggestions simple, here's every single infinite combo I can think of or find in Esper (and some of these aren't even registered as combos on the site, so... I found that interesting. Had to go back and separate those ones card by card):

And after this, I'm out. I'm going to go back to playing Fire Emblem: Fates. Fwiw, I hope this helps, and I just zoned out in a phone call with a person I didn't want to speak to for about 20 minutes while formatting this, lol.

Alright, finally sat down and read it. Thoughts:

Not sold on: Merfolk Sovereign

Replacement ideas: Streambed Aquitects can pump a merfolk to prep for zagana entering, or with any other merfolk lord, islandwalking. as an additional note, ensures whiskergill can attack :)

Rogue's Passage can help fix mana, and ensure any beater you have gets through

any other merfolk lord that gives islandwalk, sure its situational but they also usually pump, and punishing blue decks is always satisfying

Ordinarily I would wonder why you would want Fauna Shaman over Survival of the Fittest, but the creature synergy with zegana/kruphix is strong enough to convince me that the creature choice is better in this instance.

Also not sold on: Sagu Mauler

Possible replacements: Cache Raiders Trigger Zegana every turn, without increasing mana cost, or bounce your Fathom Mage, Mystic Snake, Progenitor Mimic, Reclamation Sage, Selkie Hedge-Mage, Vendilion Clique, Wistful Selkie, Woodfall Primus. It can repair your Glen Elendra Archmage, and could give you another landfall trigger via Lotus Cobra. If you have no other targets you want to bounce, just bounce itself. Major drawback: mana cost, and non-optional bouncing.

Wanderwine Prophets, extra turns, but mainly bouncing merfolk to revive them or their ETB triggers, like Zegana, wistful selkie, or selkie hedge-mage. Also gives good protection against board wipes.

Stormtide Leviathan is absolutely devastating to the board. Dunno if much else can be said.

Potential Card Ideas:

Cold-Eyed Selkie

Merrow Harbinger as a replacement to whiskergill? Its not a complete tutor, but its something.

Overall, very cool. Well formatted and explained.
