Deck-Building Music (get Rafiq-ing Hyped!)

Why Humans?

My friends and I have challenged each other to a tribal battle/deck building challenge. The rules:

1. The tribe can’t have more than 1000 decks associated with it on EDHRec (as of 1/1/2020).

2. The deck must stay under $250 (at least at the time of writing. May increase this as cards become more expensive over time).

3. The deck must have more than 15 of said creature type.

I picked Humans as I’ve been trying to build a Rafiq of the Many deck for awhile. I was inspired by some of the more stax based approaches I’ve seen on the inter-tubes. Any advice/input is welcome!

Game Plan

Delay opponents, identify and disrupt their strategy, and win with one of the following, below.

Win Cons

- Infinite Turn win: Seasons Past + Mystical Tutor + Time Warp

• Traditional Voltron win: Hit them until they die, finding ways to protect Rafiq while you do.

• Infect win: Putrefax + Rafiq = a one hit KO.

• Bruna win: Bruna, Light of Alabaster + our aura cards (especially Corrupted Conscience) makes her a lethal foe for the villains of the world. Gift of Immortality + Shield of the Oversoul also makes her very difficult to remove.

Plus Ultra Mentality

I've build this as a general stax deck, but this in not the optimal way to play if you want to be truly competitive. A key to winning with stax is to understand the meta you are entering into and crafting your deck appropriately to deal with those strategies. This is also easier to do in "best of x" formats and with a side-board, but that's not how my play group plays. If you have the means, I suggest looking at the Maybe board for additional inspiration for the deck, or browsing some mono white decks that make it into cEDH formats.
