The Deck Before Prophet Got Banned - God Mode Show

!!! INTRODUCTION !!!

(AKA: DUMB NOOB WHY DON'T YOU JUST RUN AZAMI)

Because I don't want to that's why!!!

Jk, but for real this deck gets two reactions when I first set it on the table. They go "oh Momir Vig combo", and once I tell them it's a wizard tribal deck, and not like any other Momir Vig they have ever seen, then I get told to run Azami. So many times snobby magic players, who think that my deck couldn't possibly stand a chance against their super awesome (totally stolen offline) Azami deck, have gotten their poor little Azami totally owned so bad that they had to quietly admit defeat and admit how awesome Momir really is.

So who is this Momir Vig, Simic Visionary and why are all these wizards following him around. Well for starters Momir isn't the key piece of the deck, but he certainly helps things quiet a bit!

To play this deck there is a basic strategy that needs to be enhanced by playing wisely. Sometimes you need to hold back and sometimes you need to go guns blazing. Read the table correctly though and there is no stopping you once your set up.

What must I do senpai?

Well I'm glad you asked.

Early-Game Show

This portion looks like any other early game of EDH. Start building your mana base. This is why low cost ramp is included. Cards like Birds of Paradise (though this one may want to be held onto, more on that later), Farseek , Sol Ring , and any other early game ramp or utility such as a Sensei's Divining Top or some low cmc wizards, Stonybrook Banneret is always a great choice. A couple great ones are Daring Apprentice , Disruptive Pitmage , or Disruptive Student as they all potentially let us answer threats to our plan. We are trying to get our general out as soon as we can because he let's us start the engine.

Mid-Game Show

Do you have 5 mana? Is your General on the table? Do you have a way to get to Prophet of Kruphix ?

Well then you may have just won the game!

In the mid game the goal is to cast Prophet of Kruphix with Momir Vig, Simic Visionary on the table.

There are lot's of ways to get to the Prophet of Kruphix . Cast any green creature with your general on the field and put Prophet on top of your library, or better yet cast a blue/green creature with your general on the field to stack the triggers to put Prophet straight to your hand. Or you could "wizard cycle" away Vedalken AEthermage , or you could simply use a Worldly Tutor . If things look really bad you might need to use Merrow Harbinger to get Wistful Selkie to finally get the prophet, but once we cast prophet we are looking to potentially win within the next few opponents turns.

What prophet allows us to do is play on other players turn while untapping all of our lands and creatures who all have great little abilities on them. No Prophet of Kruphix around? Seedborn Muse paired with Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir is actually a better Prophet of Kruphix , but Prophet is obviously easier to get to, and allows us to use the engine.

So what is the engine? I'm glad you asked. The engine means if nothing is immediately threatening my board position then at the end of each opponent's turn I'm casting blue/green ( Wistful Selkie ) after blue/green ( Master Biomancer ) after blue/green ( Fathom Mage ) WIZARD until I either run out or am forced to make "THE PLAY". Other blue green cards are great choices too depending on the situation. Things like Mystic Snake for instance.

THE PLAY Show

Once I have about 6 or so wizards,and something untapping my dudes every turn, it's time to drop Patron Wizard .

This is the game changer. Patron Wizard basically says that my opponents cannot cast anything unless they can pay one extra mana for each wizard I have on the board, and with something untapping my guys every turn. It usually means I have won the game. All of a sudden those harmless wizards don't look so harmless anymore. Factor in the fact that I can probably flash in more wizards if I need to and the fact that Patron Wizard is in fact a force tap ability (meaning summoning sickness doesnt matter) usually means there is no coming back from this situation.

The fact that I can do all of this at instant speed means at any moment during my set-up phase I might be forced into not getting the next blue/green card and instead getting Patron Wizard to flash him in to deal with a potential threat.

Late-Game Show

Well now that we are all set-up it's time to get out of hand.

During this phase we constantly add to our board presence. Dumping more and more wizards onto the board, drawing lot's of cards, and generating lots of mana.

We do this with things like... Earthcraft , you mean I can tap my wizards to make mana too???...thats exactly what I mean.

Azami, Lady of Scrolls , what my wizards let me draw more cards to cast???...I know right, if only this card could be your general...NAH!!!

Magus of the Future I can see and cast the top card!!! Does this mean with my general out casting a green creature means I basically tutor my next creature...yes yes it does....and with Sensei's Divining Top , or Azami, Lady of Scrolls I will probably never stop casting cards...right-o little Timmy.

Intruder Alarm every time I flash in a creature all my creatures untap? So pretty much infinite mana with Earthcraft right? And with Azami, Lady of Scrolls I draw all things??? Oh wait wait with Magus of the Future I cast all the things???...that's just broken...Indeed it is little Timmy.

Did I forget to mention how much mana Gaea's Cradle and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx are making at this point? Because it's a stupid amount of mana. God forbid I cast Master of the Waves.

BUT BUT BUT, what about that one guy who somehow out accelerated you and has an army of beaters on the table...your wizards can't handle giant killing machines....I guess your right, if they already have it on the table and I can't counter it I might just have to die...or I could use my amazing deck digging abilities to get to Cyclonic Rift and put everything back in their hands.....

Did I mention that I'm probably going to go ahead and put Cyclonic Rift back in my hands with Eternal Witness ? Just in case you know...and this can be repeated as necessary with Surgespanner . I need to add back Archaeomancer - note to self.

But what about THAT!!!

There are very few ways to get out of the chaos we have created but never the less it is only a soft lock.

Can't be Countered Show

There are a few cards that end things for us pretty quickly. Things like Supreme Verdict , but there are even ways around this.

Mind Break Trap is one of them. If we cannot counter your spell we will just have to exile it off the stack.

The other is Venser, Shaper Savant . We will just put your spell back to your hand a few times. With Surgespanner and Riptide Laboratory we can keep this up. It's not perfect but it may just be enough.

There is also Asceticism because we can easily make the mana we need to regenerate all our creatures most of the time.

Should probably find room for Time Stop as well.

Split Second Show

There are two Split Second Cards I know of that can potentially ruin my life. The first is Sudden Spoiling but luckily this has to be paired with another board wipe or something along those lines which hopefully I can counter with something in my hand.

The second is Molten Disaster which the only way around is to use a morph creature that counters a spell when it's flipped, which I'm not running any of, but have considered....maybe one day if it becomes a need.

But really most people quit when they realize they can't do anything and I'm just going to grow like CRAZY!

THE HARD LOCK

This is in fact a hard lock with no way to come back or win as far as I know...yep its horrible horrible thing to do and I should be punished because I have done it...

The hard-Lock works in much the same way the soft-lock does. We deny the opponent the ability to cast anything, and Cyclonic Rift anything they may have had on the field to their hand.

It works in the same way but we need a couple of new pieces. The first is Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir ensuring no one can cast anything at instant speed except for me. Then we need Opposition which cannot be tutored for in this deck, and lastly we need something untapping all our creatures every turn.

Then the lock is simple. Use Opposition and your army of Wizards or your Master of Waves army to tap down all your opponents lands during their upkeep. They can't cast anything during their upkeep because of Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and so at most they will have one land available to them each turn. Good luck to the poor poor soul.

Thanks to Andrew6Gardiner for pointing this out to me the deck now has a new version of the hard lock!!! Same as the previous version we can just replace Opposition with Glen Elendra Pranksters + Mistbind Clique which are both extremely tutorable in this deck! Yay Andrew!

• Read how the deck used to work with Prophet of Kruphix.
• Realize how sad the Prophet ban was for this deck.
• Cry
• Then realize the deck is still VERY VERY strong and try it out anyways. It's a lot of fun, and it was my original creation so it's one of my favorite decks.
