  • Step 4 .. don't let anybody else win O_O

Deck Stuff

Turn two Yuriko

Getting off to a good start will often look like a turn 1 unblockable into a turn 2 yuriko.

Turn 1 Enablers:

These 11 cards will Enable Yuriko on turn two with a 62% reliability and an 84% reliability if you take one mulligan (based on a hypergeometric distribution analysis). You'll notice that most of these are blue. This deck is island heavy and we run force of will so this is deliberate decision for our turn 1 plays. After the turn 2 yuriko trigger, having a method to use up one of our extra cards (currently 8 in hand) has provided useful. Our options for this:

If we don't get to use up all of our cards, discarding a 1-drop doesn't feel bad.

Get Those Triggers

Section covers our options for pushing Yuriko triggers through. Please also realize that removing your opponents' creatures (snuff out, submerge, dismember, commit, cyclonic rift, jitte) will help Yuriko connect.

Burn in UB

Section covers our burn spells via ninja triggers. These slots are carefully chosen. Aside from draco, the other fatties have alternate casting costs. Multiple ninja triggers + Insidious Dreams or Scroll Rack can easily deal 25+ damage in a turn. Most players will have taken incidental damage by this point. This deck definitely preys on our necropotence and ad nauseam friends.

Testing and Sideboard Considerations:

  • Oboro Breezecaller plus Mystic Sanctuary plus Time Warp

  • Thassa's Oracle + Demonic Consultation or Tainted Pact

  • Nexus lands. Very nice to have an attacker after a board wipe, however the deck is very color hungry.

  • Draco. At first I didn't think I wanted this in lieu of an actually usable cards. What I realized is that Draco + top of deck tutors or Scroll Rack is a combo. Draco is a 16 damage burn spell.

  • Doomsday package lives in the maybe-board. It provides a concrete win condition. I've definitely enjoyed playing around with nexus loops. If nexus is the only card in our library and we have an unblockable in play, that's a win.

What a beautiful couple sets we've had here.

From WAR: Narset's Reversal replaces Treasure Cruise three delve spells is too many

From MH1:

Changeling Outcast replaces Artificer's Assistant .. strict upgrade

Cabal Therapist replaces Gudul Lurker ... I'm excited to test this card. Its a 1cmc with evasion and utility. I can easily sacrifice Yuriko and recast her and the therapist for 3 mana per turn. This is pretty interesting engine for a grindy game.

Ingenious Infiltrator replaces Ninja of the Deep Hours ... strict upgrade

Force of Negation replaces Mental Misstep ... great card for this deck. We aren't often needing to protect key pieces on our turn.
