Dystopia

Enchantment

Cumulative upkeep-Pay 1 life. (At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.)

At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player sacrifices a white or green permanent.

RiotRunner789 on Favorite EDH Cards

My favorite card is Grave Pact but that isn't quite niche. I don't seem to have as many oddball fun cards that I tend to play but there are a few oddball or less played ones at least.

Black: Koskun Falls is a favorite of mine. I prefer decks that do not attack, so the tapping is not a big downside. Tainted Remedy because it makes opponent's creatures with lifelink funny. Gift of Doom which doesn't use the stack when morphing which has come in handy more than once. Pestilence is one of my favorite black board wipes which typically is on my board with an indestructible creature. Dystopia since at least someone is playing Selesnya.

White: Peacekeeper because no means no. Aura of Silence use to be more niche but has seen some prominent reprints. Solid removal with a tax effect has tripped up more than one opponent. Mandate of Peace is a great fog and a counter spell in some situations. Underplayed.

Green: Hall of Gemstone for any monogreen deck. Had a blue player try to win on my endstep and about 5 minutes into their combo, I asked where there blue mana was coming from.

Orzhov: Batwing Brume has killed a few Kranko players for me and saved me several times.

Colorless: Null Brooch is just Isochron Scepter with Negate already attached. Arena of the Ancients is great for when my commander doesn't need to tap, or attack, or is played after this and has vigilance. Great card no one expects.

Red: Apocalypse or Jokulhaups for the hard reset. Stranglehold because blue players are the worst and tutoring takes too long.

Blue: Mana Vortex for the slow decent into hell.

I second that suggestion of adding Cabal Stronghold. Have you thought about Dust Bowl? It's amazing late game in a deck full of basic lands.

If you are trying to keep the mana base as basic as possible have you thought about adding a nice tax like Tsabo's Web?

Deathgrip, Dystopia and/or Gloom might be good value alongside that Painter's Servant.

Imp's Mischief nice Izzet spell for mono black.

Even though this is a tutor tribal list Planar Portal seems bad in the color that tutors best.

Chromatic Lantern does nothing for this deck. A cheaper mana rock would be an upgrade or even a Pristine Talisman. Mirage Mirror would be a nice swiss army knife.

DemonDragonJ, I'm in two minds on that. I feeel like maximum would mean there's no choice but to ride it until the end, one way or another. But, cards like Dystopia, Necropotence, and Yawgmoth's Bargain all give the option to stop paying, and those are some pretty iconic cards in .

Personally, I like the idea of using cumulative upkeep and potentially adding a drawback when it leaves play. Something like losing 10 life or not being able to draw a card if it is in your graveyard or exile.

But I'm not a great card designer so that might not work, and it might take it away from what you want it to be. Either way, I think it's a cool design :)

RiotRunner789 on Cards that benefit from Solemnity

Here's a good resource,

https://commanderspellbook.com/search/?q=Solemnity

Shows all of the possible combos. Glancing through, Nine Lives would also slot well into zur. Outside lockout combos/infinite a good card is Mystic Remora and/or Dystopia. Just be careful with your own white permanents and dystopia.

Jokulhaups. I love destroying everything and then winning that turn or the next.

Otherwise, Hall of Gemstone in every mono green deck and Dystopia in every black deck. Sometimes they whiff but rarely and when they work, THEY WORK.

Jesus, talk about color-hosing! It feels like 1997, back when this was a thing. Anyways, thanks for pointing me here! You might want Dystopia, it's absofruitly brutal.

I feel it being stapled to life loss makes it ok. But yes, more Dystopia effects would be grand.
