Deck is the cards I own, mainly focused on picking up lands when I can and maybe the missing fast mana when I can
11/14/17
haven't played this deck lately tbh but gonna make some updates cuz why not
-1 Arcane Denial +1 Delay (cuz memes lol. wish i could play counterspell but UU is too rough. Negate may be better in this slot though)
-1 Fractured Powerstone +1 Grafdigger's Cage (too many 2 mana rocks are just too weak nowadays)
-1 Jace's Archivist +1 Trinisphere (i own trinisphere now yay. Whole deck costs 3+ mana anyways lul)
-1 Swiftfoot Boots +1 Phyrexian Revoker (good card, hits food chain proactively, tutorable off recruiter, boots with the fur)
-1 Day's Undoing +1 Rings of Brightheart (because day's undoing is actually a bad card, who knew?)
Some of the draw engines have been designed around beating Leovold and Spirit of the Labyrinth.
Rising Waters - cut because winter orbs were getting kinda bad.
5/1/17: Cards on chopping block, cards coming in (prospective), limited by current budget restrictions:
Out:Sun Titan (expensive)Palace Jailer (expensive. Drawing at end of turn sucks. Exiling a creature every turn still seems great even if they might come back? WW cost annoying)Glint-Nest Crane (inconsistent)
In:Mentor of the Meek (a lot of other decks play this engine and now that leovold is gone I think it's time I'm more comfortable with its inclusion)Venser, Shaper Savant (great versatility, works well with brago, tutorable off recruiter of the guard, win condition in resonator combo turns that you can find while drawing your deck in combat)Sensei's Divining Top (unsure of how good this is without the 4 zendikar fetches. Still, trinket mage target)
Current Considerations for adding:
Need to add prophetic prism back in. It got cut at some point while running Leovold but the draw is great and the fixing is great with all the color intensive cards (especially double white and double blue)
Phyrexian Revoker (pithing needle has been great, maybe worth getting another - stops mana dorks/rocks too, is a creature for mentor of the meek). Also a recruiter of the guard target, for what it's worth
Linvala, Keeper of Silence - cursed totem has been so important that this feels like it could be really strong, especially protected by a greaves. The only issue is 4 cmc, non-tutorability. Would replace lavinia, which seems like a good change. However, Lavinia stopping opposing artifact abilities and random things like JVP's flip side is relevant.
Consulate Crackdown for beating opposing mana rock decks
Trial of Knowledge - 4cmc slot gets crowded, +2 cards is hugely good. Might replace a 3cmc draw or parallax wave
Running more oblivion rings (already have a bunch) to answer stony silence and null rod
Rings combo - I haven't liked this in the past. However the ability to minus tezzeret precombat to get one rings, then attack with brago and activate tezzeret again (potentially copying with rings) to get basalt monolith seems ok. Lack of infinite mana outlets can be an issue with this, and finding two lock pieces can sometimes also get the job done. Also fetchable off of trophy mage which made me reconsider, see the next point
Metalworker combo - I'm afraid it's too inconsistent but the staff is a way to win off of infinite colorless. It complements the rings combo in giving you an infinite mana outlet and metalworker might be decent enough outside of the combo. Currently just a bit concerned about avoiding awkward dead cards.
Recruiter of the guard targets- reflector mage, among other creatures, isn't tutorable off of recruiter of the guard, but there are still plenty of good targets. Man o war might be worth it over reflector mage but the other ability of reflector mage is pretty valuable. (palace jailer is a tutorable creature answer for what it's worth).
Current Considerations for cutting:
Swiftfoot boots: Equip cost sucks, haste and protection is still good. Ends up making for awkward sequencing early as it often doesn't produce any advantage until 1 turn after greaves would
Parallax Wave: awkward to play with, is 4 cmc and WW, but its proactive protection against removal (important for brago) and also proactively keeps problem creatures off the board
Sea Gate Oracle / Oath of Jace: 3 cmc ends up being tough when you sometimes need filter to hit a land early
Lavinia of the Tenth (Blinking this every turn has singlehandedly won me games against decks like Selvala, Yisan, even JVP, due to stopping opposing mana dorks, utility creatures, and artifacts. The general utility of working well against both creatures and artifacts is amazing. Maybe this should just be Linvala and/or consulate crackdown to specifically answer those things and not require blinking, however).
Fractured Powerstone (maybe i just don't need this mana rock. It could also be a coalition relic although I know most people frown upon 3cmc rocks). Ideally this would be a mox diamond, but this still enables turn 3 Brago
Rishadan Brigand (sometimes opponents just sac stuff they dont need, sometimes this closes out games. 5 cmc seems hard, and sometimes is without fast mana)
Jace's Archivist (Blue mana intensive, slow without a haste enabler. But windfalling in general has been really helpful to find momentum, hence inclusion of day's undoing)
