Sarkhan's wet dream (Scion of the Ur-Dragon)

Commander / EDH*

Maybeboard

*This deck is built to be a DUEL DECK*

I started playing magic in 2006 (Time Spiral) in high school and stopped approximately a year after because it was expensive for a 14 yo.

My friend gave me a commander deck for Christmas (2014), Prossh to be exact and then I started to play again. I now have a good job and income so I decided that I would build a Commander with a card that I always liked: Scion of the Ur-Dragon.

Don't forget to Upvote if my Deck was usefull to you! Lets help each other!

This deck is built to put your commander in play as soon as possible and if your opponent doesn't have any answer/Blocker, well you win with a lethal combo. There is many combo you can do and they are all lethal (see below). There is so many dragon you can choose from but I decided to go with the dragon that don’t have a ''come into play'' effect. Instead I went for the power when it deal combat damage to a player. Using that strategy, the opponent have to block your commander or suffer big consequences.

The professor at Tolarian Community College made a video about Scion of the Ur-Dragon but I guess the build he made was for a multiplayer commander? You can see his video here: Subscribe if you haven't already.

In other words I don’t like the build he made and decided to stick to what I did and play tested against some good commanders. Even the commander Zur the Enchanter was unable to beat the speed and savagery of the dragon lord.

Having access to all color is a double edge, you have access to the best card in all Magic© but at the same time it doesn’t mean that they will fit in your deck. It’s important to take careful choices. I will list all the cards and you will have my reason why they are in the deck.

For the lands, I decided to go with some fetch because they are fetch (da!) and all ten shock lands. Even if I have a better income now, I rater lose 2 life every time a shock come into play untap then paying crazy amount of money on dual lands.

With all the shock lands you have in the deck, adding some check lands like Dragonskull Summit make the mana base very efficient. The check lands will come into play untap pretty much all the time.

With a five color deck you obviously need some fixing. This is why there is some vivid lands. Most of the time you don’t even need the two counter but they are there just in case and make your Reflecting Pool tap for any color right away. There is only three basics just in case of a path to exile and the Evolving Wilds. I know it’s not a lot and make the deck a bit weak against Blood Moon but what do you want? It’s a f***ing five color deck!

Keep in mind that Scion of the Ur-Dragon will most of the time become a copy of the dragon listed below (Enjoy):

Atarka, World Render: Because striking once is not good enough.

Balefire Dragon: Most likely to wipe your opponent board if not block.

Belltoll Dragon: He is hexproof, good protection for your commander

Birds of Paradise: Manarock with wings.

Crosis, the Purger: Very good if you want to get rid of some card in your opponent hand.

Dragon Tyrant: Part of a lethal combo with Moltensteel Dragon even if scion is block with a small creature you can pass enough commander damage to win the game.

Dragonlord Dromoka: You can copy him at your upkeep and have a peaceful turn. Do whatever you want!

Dragonlord's Servant: Cheaper dragon? Yes please!

Dragonspeaker Shaman: Even cheaper dragon? F**k yeah!

Elvish Piper: One mana dragon into play? Oh hell yeah!

Feldon of the Third Path: Use your dragon again and again and again and… well you got the point.

Hellkite Tyrant: Because one Sol Ring isn’t enough. Also punish player with a lot of artifact. Can also win you the game if Mycosynth Lattice is into play.

Moltensteel Dragon: Master piece of most of the combo (MUST BE IN THE DECK!).

Nicol Bolas: Because you can't play without cards.

Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius: There is a lethal combo with his younger brother Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind.

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind: There is a lethal combo with his older brother. Also with three enchantment: Curiosity, Keen Sense and Ophidian Eye.

Numot, the Devastator: Give you the opportunity to destroy some annoying lands.

Quicksilver Dragon: He is a good protection for Scion and can redirect spell to your opponent’s creature. A good trick.

Scourge of the Throne: With the damage you take from your lands you most likely going to have two attack phase.

Sheoldred, Whispering One: Your dragon in your graveyard are waiting to come back to life.

Silumgar, the Drifting Death: Good protection for your commander and can also be used to wipe some creature when attacking with multiple dragons.

Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon: Part of a lethal combo with Moltensteel Dragon. Sometime very useful against opponent that like to gain a lot of life. Can also be used to protect your commander with the regenerate ability.

Steel Hellkite: Can be used for multiple purpose. Destroy thing you don’t like on the board for a small fee.

Surrak Dragonclaw: Really good against blue deck and you got Trample as a bonus.

Sylvan Caryatid: Never have too much fixing.

Teneb, the Harvester: Can bring back some good stuff from the grave.

Utvara Hellkite: Want to attack but need some blocker afterward? This dragon is for you!

There is only four instant in the deck but they are all ''exile something''. There is so many thing in commander that bring thing back from the graveyard that if you want something gone you need to exile it.

Anguished Unmaking: Exile a nonland permanent at instant speed, sure! Oh small fee of three life… yeah who care in commander.

Path to Exile: Because Path to F***ing exile.

Swords to Plowshares: Exile your dum Eldrazi Titan. Oh you gain life? Well Skithiryx, the Blight Dragon don’t care about it.

Utter End: Exile a nonland permanent at instant speed for four mana? Well yeah still good.

Only five sorcery but they are all very good in the deck:

Bring to Light: Help you find some good answer. Nineteen (19) cards can be hit if you pay five color (which you shouldn't have any trouble doing.). You can also hit Demonic Tutor if you need something else.

Crux of Fate: Destroy all non-dragon creature. More like Destroy creature you don't control.

Demonic Tutor: Tool box.

Fearsome Awakening: Bring back a dragon and make it stronger.

Living Death: Can be used to wipe the board and bring back all the monster in your graveyard. So much fun!

There is a few utility enchantment that found their way in the deck:

Animate Dead: Revive something from any graveyard for two mana… well yeah I guess I can use that.

Asceticism: Creature you control have hexproof and regenerate for . What more to say?

Burgeoning: Speed the clock for your opponents.

Crucible of Fire: Not like we have a Tribal commander…

Curiosity: In case you did not read the ''Creature'' section, you can win the game with Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and just in case you did not realized, Scion of the Ur-Dragon can transform into it.

Descendants' Path: Because free stuff is always fun and work well with Sensei's Divining Top

Dragon Tempest: Because it make pretty anything in the deck with haste even the Birds of Paradise.

Prismatic Omen: Fix your color and protect you against Blood Moon.

Sylvan Library: Give you a great card advantage and for a few life.

Temur Ascendancy: Give haste but also make you draw a lot. Don't forget the effect is when a creature enter the battlefield. Work pretty well with things like Utvara Hellkite.

Most of the artifact are in fact to provide mana. They also help to fix your color.

Chromatic Lantern: No more color issue.

Coalition Relic: Give you any color AND if unused last turn give you an additional mana the next turn.

Commander's Sphere: Any color mana rock that you can sacrifice late game.

Darksteel Ingot: Indestructible mana rock.

Quicksilver Amulet: Do I really need to explain?

Sensei's Divining Top: Commander stapple.

Sol Ring: Sol Ring

Spectral Searchlight: Since Commander is a multiplayer format I chose Spectral Searchlight over Manalith. You can give mana which is really useful.

Five planeswalker but all have a direct impact when they enter the battlefield and if they stay too long will make you win the game.

Liliana Vess: Tutor on a stick! Search your deck all day long.

Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker: Hard to get into play but when you have it give you a big advantage and destroy stuff.

Sarkhan Unbroken: Draw engine until you get all your dragon into play.

Ugin, the Spirit Dragon: Wipe (Exile) the board on arrival if needed. Or poke anything with his three damage.

Vraska the Unseen: She is in the deck for her destroy ability and she is annoying to kill because the creature that attack her will die as well.
